I Have Always Heard That If You Are Sponsered By A Company Line, That You Get All Your Supplements For Free. Does Anyone Know If This Is True?
In general I would say they get them for free as long as they are using the sponsored companies product line. I would think you could be sponsored in other ways and some may not get all the supps free. It could be as simple as a company paying for your entry fees for a show. But to answer your question, most likely so.

Most "big" bodybuilders (i.e. Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, and so on) get theirs for free from the compmany that they rep.

If your at the top of your sport and are lucky enough to have a supplement sponsor, you will receive it for free in exchange for your endorsement of the product. The best athletes without exception will not endorse anything they dont totally believe in, thats why you will find ALL of the Animals throwing around Animal Paks at the supper table and sharing tubs of Universal Protein drinks in the Cage, its the stuff we really do use.

like SGT Rock suggested, perform at a level where it would be beneficial for a company to have you as a spokesman.

You won't get looked at for sponsership unless your dominating the competition at a national level. It wouldn't beneifit the company to sponser someone that no one has ever heard of. You gotta make a name for yourself before sponsership is even a plausible idea.

You have to look at it as a business deal. What is the company's goal? To move product. They feel that if you look good, and you can put their products in front of as many people as possible, that you will be a worthy sponsorship investment. To be honest, you don't ever have to actually WIN a competition, or compete at all. I know a few guys with low level sponsorships that don't compete, but because they work at a gym or supplement store, they can get the manufacturer's products stocked and recommend the products to customers or other people they come in contact with. In essence, you work FOR THE COMPANY, as a different breed of employee. Do not ask what the company can do for you when you approach them, but rather show them what you can do for them, and the different ways you can move product and boost sales.

as people stated, you have to be a dominant force in your sport in order to get sponsorship and receive all the free goodies. my fiance was on the united states drug free powerlifting team from 1999 until she retired from the sport in early 2006. she received all her supplements and all her powerlifting equipment for free as long as she represented them in the national events and during the world championships.
