Ah you have to enjoy life. I've talked about it before ... I don't have any shows lined up, and the diet I'm on allows me some leniency when it comes to eating. I won't have tunnel vision through the holidays like I have in the past. I'll diet strict. But when a nice holiday meal comes along, or if moms bakes some fresh cookies, I'll most definitely dabble.

my bench sucks, lol. And it was even worse this weekend. Apollon Gym's barbells don't have that one ring on the bar where you'd normally place your pinky or w/e. So I had to bring my hands to the beginning of the knurl and then estimate where I'd usually have them. Once I brought the bar out, it felt off, like there was an extra 10lb on one side. Fuck.

Yeah I found when I was doing 5/3/1 my max effort sets were over 10 reps which meant I probably shortchanged my maxes and wish I would have bumped up em. Next time for sure...

Yeah I felt the same way. I actually maxed out right before we started this, so my maxes were all legit too. But with everything, even on the '1' weeks, I was still hitting 10 reps. Stupid. I was talking with Big D at the ABC and he said I should bump up my percentages. Others recommended the same. So I added an extra 10lbs to bottom half lifts and another 5lbs to MP and bench. We'll see what happens now. And I'm re-maxing next week.

Yes sir. Instead of the usual 10lb addition after the cycle, I'll probably bump it up 20lbs total. I want to be able to pull BIG weight and still get my reps. For example, if its my 'one' week, I want to be bustin' ass just to get 3-4 reps, not 10. Once I start hitting those lower reps, then I'll start adding the recommended weights after each cycle. Until then, major jumps.

Always, LB. I did DC Training about 3 years ago and was introduced to 'extreme stretching'. Ever since then, I stretch that way after every workout.

I haven't used it at all during this 'wave'. I'll be alternating it from month to month. I don't want it to become a crutch. I'll use it to help with form and increase weight on those months, in hopes that it will help my raw bench numbers.

Backloading Diet

Training Days:
Wake up at 6am (skip breakfast)
meal 1 (730): 1s Torrent Zero
meal 2 (10): 9oz chicken, 1oz nuts, 3oz green/yellow squash
meal 3 (1pm): 9oz chicken, 1oz nuts, 3oz green/yellow squash
meal 4 (4pm): 8oz steak, 1oz nuts, 3oz green/yellow squash
meal 5 (~715): postWO - EAA Nitro, 2 servings SP CARB Max
meal 6 (9pm): whatever I feel like while still staying strict

Non-training Days:
zero carb all day long
- meals 1-4 are as same as above with one final meal of the day have some carbs.

I've been able to gain lean mass and strength while keeping my waist the same AND getting slightly leaner.

Bodyweight: ~210lbs

I don't have a specific time. I'm really enjoying it at the moment. Get in, lift some heavy weight, get out. I've never run 4 consecutive months with it, and this week marks the end of the 3rd, so I'm definitely going to run it a bit longer to see what happens. I want to be strong as fuck for the Arnold this year. So I might run it up until then.

However ... after this week, I'll be doing 2 weeks worth of easy and light training, bodybuilder style, to give the body a break. With Christmas and New Years, you know how the schedules get fucked up, so I'm just going to rest the body, go in bodybuilder style, get a nice pump, and head out. Once life gets back on track after the holidays, its back to 5/3/1. But during those 2 weeks, I smell a Jersey Shore Fitness session ..

Yeah not bad with the increases, until last night. Didn't really set anything higher. Results will be posted in a few. My last max on the bench, 3 months ago, was a failure at 340. I just set it at 275 to be conservative with the numbers for the waves of the 5/3/1, but definitely expected to set it higher. Nope.

I ran it back in the spring of '10 for 3 cycles, but I was trying to diet down at that time, so I wasn't able to experience the gains like I am now. It worked, and I gained a bit, but I think in order for the 5/3/1 to be successful, you need to be on a bulk, or at least not trying to drop weight.

- went to bed nice and early, with Animal PM

Saturday
- woke up at 730 to finish the job of moving my friend in
- moved furniture from 8am to about 12pm
- came home, ate, showered up, and headed into nyc with the girl
- did the typical: walked, shopped a bit, saw the tree, had dinner, drinks, etc.

Sunday
- woke up, got a meal in, went back to sleep
- woke up again, ate, packed and headed for the gym
- squat max, banged 365 right up the ass. fuck u. 30lb pr
- went home in a great mood
- stayed in said mood until 7:00 left in the 4th quarter of the giants game (don't comment at ALL about this)
- had a few beers while watching the game, along with homemade clams casino, stromboli, and some crab cakes. decided to have a few more beers all day, drinking away the depression.
- watched toy story 3 later that night and went to bed nice and early.

Monday
- took off from work
- made a bangin' omelet that would rival IHOP: 5 eggs, bacon, cheese, deli turkey, and tomato
- went out to finished Christmas shopping, did well and was home before noon.
- hung around in sweatpants all day with a lipper, played Call of Duty; Black Ops, and watched the Expendables (quite possibly one of the greatest days of all time)
- went out to watch the MNF game at my favorite spot ($10 buckets of Coors light (5), app specials by the quarter; $1 wings (6) for the first quarter, got 2 orders, $4 bar pies all game, got one of 'em)
- home to get some sleep

That is NUTS! It's 30 degrees for two days here, than it jumps up to 75-80 for two days. It takes a toll on your energy levels and immune system, oh well! I guess the weather sucks everywhere! Needless to say, I feel your pain.

I definitely will. I've experienced big gains from the first cycle, but I guess that is due to it being something new.

It's been a pretty shitty few days here in NJ. Sunday morning it started snowing. It didn't end until late Sunday night/early Monday morning. Depending on where in NJ we're talking about, snowfall totaled 16-20 inches, more in some parts. Terrible. What's worse? I had off both Monday and today from work, due to holiday vacations and using up my sick/vacation days. I thought I had it all planned out; take Tuesday off after having Friday (X-mas Eve) and Monday off, giving me a solid 5 days off of work. Turns out it was a bad idea, as these last 3 days have been a total waste. Just shoveling and sitting around, doing nothing. Oh well.

Haven't been to the gym in almost a week. Planned to go on Sunday and/or Monday, and most likely today, but that isn't going to happen. Though I can't train, I still weather the storm to cook ..

My XL shirts are starting to fit a bit too snug. Weird. I've hovered around the same weight for a while now, sitting ~210lbs. I've noticed that a lot of the clothes I've worn have been a bit too tight around the chest/shoulder area. Waist is still staying the same ... kinda. The holiday-bulge is there, but I don't give a fuck about that. After New Years, I'm good to go. What weirds me out is the fact that I was 235lbs at my heaviest, still rockin' XLs. But now I find myself outgrowing some of those shirts. Every brand is different. Yes, I know this. It seems that my thermal shirts and dress shirts are a bit too tight now. Regular T-shirts, eh, half and half. I've just begun breaking into my winter wear, thus noticing the difference from last year. niCe.

This makes me look forward to summer. I still have another 5 months to grow. I might need a whole new summer wardrobe.

How exactly does the slingshot up your bench? Been hearing about it and have even seen it at my gym. Even 5/3/1 is taking over!

You may have to ask someone more experienced with the SlingShot. Personally, I bought it on the recommendation that it will help ease shoulder pain, which is definitely does. I think of it as a step lower than an actual bench shirt. It makes everything real tight and it springs the weight back up. For example, I cant' bring 135 to my chest with the SlingShot. It forces it back up and b/c 135 is so light, its impossible unless you actually pull it down.

The way it fits, it places more emphasis on your triceps as well. It almost MAKES you bench more like a powerlifter by bringing in your elbows closer. Triceps gain some strength, form improves, no shoulder pain = higher bench press, both raw and slingshotted.

It was odd for the first time. But chains are a great way to help with sticking points. Its light at the bottom and gets tougher as you press upward. So it helps if you have trouble at the midway point or the lockout. Not bad at all. I did them on deadlifts that week as well. Expect many more chains involved.
