Wassup guys and girls, i been part of this site for a long time, but often enjoy the material while keeping my head down around here, reading the journey side of things got me inspired and i want to make my own journey to help keep me on the straight and narrow whilst hopefully helping others to make the decision to do something they also wanted to achieve..

Anyway, im gonna try and be faithful to this thread from now on, im on a busy 7 day a week schedule at the moment so time is tight but story so far:

I live in England and started training when i was about 16 as i weighed about 14 stone and was very overweight and felt shit, no girlfriends at school etc..started running and doing a few 'circuits' of random machines at the gym as i had no idea what i was doing! Got down to about 12 stone and felt good, really good! Started to see some abs which i was amazed at but also started getting girlfriends..awesome.

Anyway, i then joined a gym near me when i was about 17 which was opened by an awesome old guy who used to be a competitive natural bodybuilder. The guys who trained there were all huge (i felt like an ant at the time!) and so i started to lift. This went out of control as they were saying to eat LOADS, so i did....and without touching one drug or supplement i reached the ridiculous weight of 20 stone (sorry i dont work in lbs!) in the course of a year..at the time i was huge..but fat..really really fat, but as i guess a lot of us do, you dont really realise at the time..

This is when i realised it was time for a change so started dieting but not really knowing what i was doing, i got down to about 18 stone..I then started learning how to train properly and actually what it all means and have since been lifting hard, which is now about 2 & 1/2 years. Im now 21 years old weighing 16 st 6 lbs and dieting very slowly whilst working my ass off to get some quality gains!

The title black and white is just something which keeps my mind on track as it literally brings out the light out of the shadows..

Anyway, i appreciate all of you who have taken the time to read all this shit and the trail of my journey will now be layed down on these pages..

Weight: 230lbs

Incline DB Press: 25/12 30/8 35/6 40/4 20/20(F)
Flat DB Press: 32.5/8 37.5/6 42.5/4 25/15(F)

Todays Session: Legs
Date: 13/01/09
Aim: Improve My Quads! Due to a car crash i had almost exactly a year ago my right leg is still lagging..

Leg Extensions: 50/20 50/20 50/20
Smith Squats (Due To Leg Injury): 40/8 60/6 80/4 100/2
Leg Press: 200/8 240/6 280/4 320/2
Leg Curls: 20/20 20/20 20/20

I stick to approx 100 reps per bodypart per week, this was the first time ive tried this session as was just making something up, felt alright today though, diet seems to be going really well, no idea of bodyfat % but abs are coming out and definition coming through which is all i care about.

As it is almost exactly a year since my car crash i thought i would just share the pics of my hand and leg injuries which have left me with a partially working hand and many screws in my right knee!

All i say is, when you fall off your horse, you stand up and get back on it.

whilst thinking about my life and training, even though i now have a journey being layed down, i realised i dont really have a destination in my head. Im training, hard, eating clean and whilst at the moment im cutting, its not a quick cut as i wanna finish at about 8% by May, so while im not bulking, im not really cutting either. This has made me realise this may be the problem to my training at the moment, cause while the intention and attention is all there i now know why i never have a sense of accomplishment in my sessions, cause there is ultimately nothing i am trying to achieve. Dont get me wrong, i feel great at the moment and feeling better everyday with the fat slowly dripping off me, i just feel i need a sense of direction. Is this just me??

Any thoughts or comments on this from fella trainers would be interesting to read, i dont really want my journey to be heading towards 'getting big and lean', i need something more focused. The only thing i can think of right now is getting lifts sorted by having 1.5x BW Bench, 2x BW Squat & 2.5x BW Deadlift, while sticking between 8-12% BF all year round. As i say i would be interested to read what other iron warriors feel about their journey. In the mean time..Im gonna go and eat and train...for something! Peace.

Bro, i'd ditch the 'oat so simple', its full of unnecessary crap, go for regular store brand oats for sure. Just keep the sachets of 'oats so...' for on the go, like pak.

Try this brekkie and see if you dont notice improvements...
Oats
Semi skimmed milk
1 chopped banana
Nuke in microwave for 2 minutes, add...
Ground cinnamon & 1-2 scoops protein (banana or vanilla are best, chocs cool too), stir in.
Nuke for 1 minute
Drizzle with Honey

Breakfast of champs. I personally add Egg whites to this (BIG bowl required), also a diced apple heated up in this is amazing, as are berries. Also, 60 mins post w/o Dex & Whey again, or whole food meal...... Bro, unless desperate, you have to have the whole food meal. Try getting more veggies in too, frozen veg is cool and cheap.

Sorry if i come across as a know it all, as your obviously doing something right for your size, i just wanna keep you on your toes and ahead of the chasing pack.

I was also shopping last night and was thinking i need more veg so got some big bags of frozen veg just in time!

Thanks again man, ill post up how i get on..

I have held the heavy lifting for the mean time and focusing now on actually contracting my muscles and getting a stronger mind-muscle connection, so with the weight drops (and trying to find which weights to use) the session went as follows:

Incline DB Press (Kg): 30/8 32.5/8 35/7/7
Flat DB Press (Kg): 35/6 32.5/7 30/7/8
DB Flye (Kg): 12/10 15/10/8 (Needs to be heavier)

Barbell Curl (Using alternate 2 Fast, 2 Slow) (Kg): 30/8/8/8/8
DB Hammer Curl Alternate (Kg): 12/9/8/8/7

Felt a much netter pump and feel like im gonna be sore tomorrow, we shall see..

Firedrake
01-26-09, 7:26 pm
Looks like a good session, and if you're carefully controlling contraction and relaxation of the muscle, rather than just throwing the weight up there (which we're all guilty of sometimes), and you WILL be sore . . . enjoy it! <grin>

Todays Date: 07/02/09

Felt alot better today after having a cheat meal for the first time in about 3 weeks, dropped a few training 'principles' i had been using and gone back to training how i feel, but still using a basic method to the madness, there may also be less listings of actual weights used from now on aswell as im finding it more useful to train how it feels and not as fussed as what weight is on the bar..as long as it feels heavy i dont mind..anyway it went like this:

Standing Press BB: 4 x 6-8 @ 65kg Final Set
Seated Front Raise DB: 4 x 8-12 @ 17.5kg Final Set
Rear Delt Flyes Machine: 4 x 8-12 @ 100Lbs Final Set with 2 Drop Sets
Lateral Raises DB: 4 x 8-12 Failure with 2 Drop Sets

Overhead DB Extensions: 4 x 6-8 @ 40kg Final Set
Skull Crushers BB: 4 x 8-12 Failure with Drop Sets

Close Grip Row (Holding one end of a BB): 4 x 8-12 @ 90kg Final Set

Leg Press Calve Raise: 4 x 6-8 @ 280Kg Final Set
Seated Calve Raise: 3 x 15 @ Neutral, Feet Out & Feet In

Feeling real sore from yesterdays shoulder blast, finally getting back into training now and loving the new found soreness..

Still dieting aswell, fat is trickling off slowly which is perfect as im in no rush, down to 104kg (Approx 228 lbs) now, lightest i been for a while..! While measure bodyfat soon as i want something to look back on aswell..

Hitting the iron hard today, finally starting to see veins in my forearms when training now, never had this before due to the 'blurring' of the insulation i was carrying around..!!

Started Like This:
-- Working towards much better mind/muscle connection on all sets at the moment
-- 90 Secs Rest For Compounds

Incline Bench Press: 4 Sets @ 8-12 Reps
Flat Bench Press: 4 Sets @ 6-8 Reps
DB Flyes: 4 @ 8-12 Reps

Finished Like This:
-- 30 Secs Rest For Isolation

Cable Curls: 4 Sets @ 8 Reps
DB Hammer Curl: 4 Sets @ Failure 8-12 Reps

Felt good after the session today, also now improved my workout nutrition so it now goes as follows:

Pre-Workout:
-BCAA Blend
-Vitamin C
-Creatine

During Workout:
-BCAA Blend

Post Workout:
-Creatine
-Dextrose
-Whey
-Vitamin C
-Sometimes Glutamine

Works really well, feel alot better in the sessions, phsycological or not..its working. Feeling alot happier with my physique atm, both within myself and how i look.

Feel annoyed at myself for letting myself get so big and heavy and fat when i started training, hitting over 128Kg (Approx 280lbs), anyway im more bothered with the fact im doing something about it now and thats the main thing.

I also been thinking and wanna set myself a real challenge and as ive been asked by a few bodybuilders at my gym about competing before, i wanna head towards competing in a Natural Bodybuilders Competition, any thoughts of good federations?!

Appreciate your time bros, Peace.

Yea go for it. You've got some good size on you. I've thought about natty competing, albeit mid 2010, but i dunno. All the more incredible how far you've progressed, considering the injuries you overcame and even still have to work round.

Feeling really sore from Mondays Chest/Bicep Session, destroyed my chest which im pleased about as i know im training alot better these days and getting a much stronger mind-muscle connection as im using pretty much the same weights but getting alot more DOMS, loving training at the moment..

Also, got a small challenge coming up and walking the '3 peak challenge'. Anyone who doesnt know this; its basically walking the three biggest mountains in United Kingdom in 24 hours..including the driving time. Therefore from starting at the base of the first mountain i will climb Ben Nevis in approx 5 hours, drive for about 4 hours, climb Scafell Pike in about 4 hours, drive for about 6 hours and finally climb Snowdown in approx 4 hours. Target: 24 hours.

We are raising money for the Surrey Air Ambulance as a memorial of when i got airlifted to hospital by them when i had my car crash just over a year ago. A website is going up and i will post this when its done.

Gonna start the week with back from now on as its one of the main areas i want to improve in and its something different...so back tomoz, deadlifts now back. (no pun intended)

leg press calve raise:

Im not sure if i mentioned it before but to mark the anniversary of my car crash im going to be walking the Three Peaks Challenge to help raise money for the Surrey Air Ambulance service who airlifted me to hospital when i was cut out of my car.

Our mission is to climb the three biggest mountains in the UK all within 24 hours, including the driving. Its gonna be tough but im up for it and i see it as good leg training! I still have the screws in my leg and dont have full function back in my hand but its a reminder why im doing it.

Any help would be really appreciate even if its £1. The website is:

Do you accept donations from overseas? I'd be happy to kick in.

Hi FiredRake, thats really kind of you, just checked with the site and it says you can send donations anywhere in the world as long as you have a debit/credit card.

Quote from website: "You can only donate in pounds sterling (£ GBP), so you need to work out how much you want to donate in pounds, and we'll charge you the equivalent amount in your local currency. Here's one of the many currency conversion websites that can help: http://www.xe.com/ucc"

hope thats useful, really appreciate your help bro

This is getting ridiculous..i trained my calves on Monday and they are still so sore to the point that i cant tense them today (SUNDAY)..! all it was were 2 sets of leg press raises in each foot position (neutral, toe in, toe out) of about 35-50 reps, but they have been screaming since..!

NB: The lack of updates is due to the busy week ive had, just done a 72 hour week, still managed to train but just not get on here. Am back to normal tomorrow so time to concentrate again..

I get the "busy" issues. I haven't had the time to be on the Forvm as much as I'd like to, either. I'm getting my workouts done, but only getting online every other day or so.

Good luck with the calves!

Yer unfortunately its gotta be done bro..!

Todays Session: Chest

Incline BB Press 12/10/8/6
Flat BB Press 12/10/8/6
Incline DB Flyes 12/10/8/8

Good session today, thrown most training 'principles' out the window now and gone back to basics, was confusing myself about training when all along i just needed to carry on what i was doing before. Felt alot better and all im gonna do is just change the rep range every so often to keep it fresh..

The_Stig

Todays Session: Back/Traps

Pullups 4 Sets using isometric holds (approx 20 seconds)
Deadlifts 4 sets @ 8 reps with 140kg
Single Arm DB Row 4 sets @ 12-8 reps with 40kg final
Isometric DB holds in shrug positon 4 sets @ 45sec, 40sec, 35sec & 30sec with 40kg Final

Feeling good at the moment, enjoying my 'diet' as it involves eating a small selection of what i want but just concentration at certain nutrient timings, never believed in Ketogenic diets for some reason, i know they can work but this is working very well...now down to approx 11% BodyFat weighing Approx. 103Kg. Finally seeing my abs and has taken surprising little work and is really easy to maintain my weight now, so thankful to the Doctor/Bodybuilder/Dietician i learnt from..! Havent started any cardio yet as im waiting to use that for when i want to get cut..for now i just need to bigger and stronger..!
