I am a sophmore for the extra info. But your posts and comments would be greatly appriciated.

Lift heavy and do a slow cut is my advice. Once you've leaned out to your liking then bulk.

If you are anywhere near thirty cut like a madman! if you're that big, you can afford to drop fat pretty damn fast..

either way, cut then CLEAN bulk.. with a good cheat meal every once ina while.. if you're playing ball, the extra cals aren't gonna hurt ya.

If you cant see your abs at all then it is time to get your ass on that treadmill. Also eat 6 clean meals a day.

I'll take it you're a lineman if you have that much bodyfat. You really should cut down, it'll help with your speed and your explosiveness off the line. Plus you're only a sophmore now and season just ended, so spend a couple of months really trying to lose bodyfat, then the rest of the offseason gaining lean mass. Keep your diet clean and train hard throughout the rest of your high school career and you'll be ready to rock in college.

I think you should consider what I said. If you're as overweight as you say, you'll be able to shed bodyfat quickly and probably gain some muscle mass at the same time. You'll be amazed at how well your body responds to a good diet and heavy lifting.

Are you lifting, how is your eating. I played strong safety at the weight you are now bro but I was 5'10. You are best trying to work on your power movement if you are any type of lineman and speed wll come with the addition of good solid muscle. Your best friend can be your weight if you are fast bro It is hard to get around a guy with quick hands and feet if he is a big bad ass bro. Work on your clean and jerks, your presses, squats, upright rows. Endurance is another key so like the brother said hit that treadmill. My coach made us join the wrestling team that helped with footwark especially for the big men teaches you how to use your body.

How you view yourself is FAAAARRR different than everyone else views you. Hell, most of us ex-fatties still see the fat us when we look in the mirror... even if we're shredded... =(

Here's the deal: You have ZERO chance of playing college ball the way you are (unless you play for a crappy JUCO)... You need to drop that fat, and build some quality mass, or you'll get eaten alive. You may think you don't look too bad, but you may just carry weight well, but the fact is, you're too fat, and lack muscle. 160 @ 25% means you have pretty much zilch for muscle mass... Cuz that other 75% is NOT muscle... You have bones, body fluids, organs.. bla bla bla

You can keep asking for "other ideas" all day... but the answer is gonna be the same. Cut, THEN Bulk.

Good luck

I played football while I was in high school and I can tell you personally that while size helps, how cut you are has no effect on your game; what matters is your stength and just being plain tough. I only weight 160 in school and I was 1st team on both offense (tackle) and defense (middle linebacker). You would also be wise to pay much more attention to power lifts like bench, squat, and deads than smaller lifts like cable crossovers and lateral raises. And for as how cut you are, what really matters in football is your conditioning, so you do need to be doing a lot of cardio, but not really for looks.

Probably a very gradual decrease in caloric intake, as opposed to doing a very strict diet a slower type of cutting phase would allow more time to taper off your daily calories. Try to think of it as a 24 week cutting phase instead of 12. This could be effective for people who are not accustomed to doing a strict BBing style diet in the first place. This would also allow more time to up your cardio, going from a low level in the first 2 weeks up to a higher level towards the middle and end as you become accustomed to it.

At least that would be my take on it.

I agree with the majority here that cutting and then building is the "right" way but I have to point out how I did it being were pretty damn similar when I started. First I am still in the 20-30% BF so I am in cutting progress as we speak. I found a lifting program that I realized HUGE gains from in 10 weeks and at the time I didn't know it but I was bulking as I didn't change my poor eating habits which was just oversized portions but quality food. I know from what I have read, that strength gains will be better when you're bulking as your energy is higher and your body is getting what it is used too. When I cut/diet I am agressive because I am impatient which can be bad due to energy loss and some strength losses as well as muscle loss if you're not careful to keep hydrated, consistant BCAA's and protein levels at the very least 1% per pound of body weight I shot for 1.5 - 2% when lifting but I injured a thumb tendon so I cut back to 1% so I don't gain weight while I heal as I can't lift for now. I feel the trade off for quick weight loss is worth the risk though because when I get to weight I can begin eating "right" (correct portions and values).
I must say this worked for me but the drawback was all the strength gains and inspirational poundages I achieved will and are slipping while I am cutting but I mentally am excitied to build up again becasue that was the most fun. I know that eventually those gains will slow and then you have plateau busting to be concerned with.

Hope this "from some one who's been there" helps!
