Yeah, bought it in 2003 and have read it through a couple of times and still haven't absorbed it all, a real serious read though. Nothing matches it!

Hey Brothers,

That book taught me a lot about dieting and training. It taught me how to create my own workouts and diet plans. Another good book that I like alot as well would be Ultimate Bodybuilding by Joe Weider. I did a few of the workouts there and got great results. The pictures were also cool, and those pics motivated me to work hard as hell.

I got it for Christmas this year along with four or five other bodybuilding books. Among them were Macrobolic Nutrition, Nutrient Timing: The Future of Sports Nutrition, Scrawny to Brawny, and the Animal Owner's Manual. The one I got the most use out of was Macrobolic Nutrition, whose macronutrient ratios I've followed with great success (45/35/20 divided among 5-6 meals). The encyclopedia is also an excellent book, my favorite part about it was the history of bodybuilding... because I'm a nerd like that.

Yeah I have it and love it.

I also have another book by Arnold called "The Education of a Bodybuilder" I thought this was a very good book and recommend it to anyone that liked the modern encyclopedia of bodybuilding.

Its more about Arnold's up bringing and the start of his Bodybuilding Career on into his Olympia years. Has some training and diet recommendations by Arnold, but fairly brief.

I swear by both the New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding and Joe Weider's Ultimate Bodybuilding. Both excellent books w/ great training advise.

The volume of his “Advanced” Splits is incredible. I could not do his “2-a-days”, but I did follow his 6 day cycle (3 days repeat, one day off). F’n tuff and time consuming…

Certainly a “Must Have”

This book is the shit-phonebook sized packed with valuable information for about $20--I probably refer to it on every workout, when I say, ahh I could use more lower lat sweep, I just look it up--also tons of valuable contest, diet, and posing information
I would say this is THE MUST HAVE BOOK if you are a bodybuilder, just remember its a little dated so make sure to apply the newest knowledge about bodybuilding and take some things you read with a grain of salt.

I have some cash to spend on amazon so I figured I'd buy a couple books....

from my searches, and from what I've heard, I'll get Arnolds encyclopedia, any takes on another "must have" book??????

I bought Arnold's "The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding" about a year ago. It is a must-have, definitely an invaluable resource for both knowledge and inspiration. As for any other "must-haves," you can't go wrong with the Animal Owner's Manual. Best of all, the AOM is free!

To everyone who doesn't have it yet, get up now and pick it up. Probably the best bodybuilding read ever. I'm currently doing the program of training 6 times a week described inside. I know it's gonna be hard as hell, but it's worth it.

i love that book man, i read it religously when i was just a kid atartin out, he outlines "advanced" training and that could certainly kill a horse. but his "competition" routine its out of control. its pretty much a must have for any bodybuilding fan

I think " the bible of modern bodybuilding" is more suitable name...and anyone who is serious about this sport, has it at home on the shelf.

I do, and I'm on page 680something. I love it. I've learned a shit load from it. He lets you in on all the things that keep normal people from becomming bodybuilders. I never knew how hard it would be, or how much hard work and sacrifice it would take to compete until I started reading it. In a way it made me nervous about it, but in another, it motivated me even more to get on stage.

Hellyeah. I got it like four years ago. I read it so much that it's in 2 pieces now that the spine came apart. Right on the page where it shows shawn ray doing upright rows, and arnold doing shrugs.

Awesome book. A must for all bodybuilders or weight lifters in general.

Another book to check out is Bill Pearl's 'Keys to the Inner Universe'.. or something like that. If you need the how to, on doing an excercise, or want to add something new to your workout. This book has it.

I have the New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding by Arnold and that other guy. Actually, I mostly look at the pictures... I have to be honest with that. But those pics... man, amazing photography - serves to inspire me enough without even reading a bit!

I seem to remember though, that the sections I have read were ok. I don't think I'd ever have the patience of reading AND trying out all that's in that HUGE book.

Cheers

I agree, it is an awesome piece of work for the money.

You should also check out Dave Draper's "Brother Iron Sister Steel". Not as comprehensive as Arnold's book, but it is still a great read with great workout and nutrition advice.
