Sic transit gloria(glory fades), even for the best of them. Glory goes every time our best is diminished. But for us, sometimes that is every day because we have acheived new heights and our best is no longer our best. When we compete, it is not to defeat the other man, its to better ourselves. They just give us alittle extra motivation. With every pound gained and every kilo lifted we attain more glory(even if only in our own eyes). When we reach the day when injury or age keeps keeps us from going any further, no one can take those accomplishments away from us. And age is sneaking up on us, and I am pretty sure it is up to no good.

I haven't stepped on that stage yet, nor do I know if I ever will. But I train like I will, because if I don't, I am only cheating myself. But will every plate lifted and every goal that falls before me I am building up a mountain. A mountain high enough that when I reach the top, I will be able to sieze the glory from the heavens and claim it as my own.

Well, its about time for my old journey to fall to the side. I have redeemed myself with my own two hands, and found strength I never knew I had. Eight out of ten times I walk into the gym, I am the strongest one in there. Which is really sad considering how weak I am lol. I may never be number one, but he is going to have to keep looking behind him as I close the distance.

The squat, more so than most other lifts, is a head game. For me deads are much harder, but with a deadlift, the weight either comes off the floor or it doesn't. There's just something about having a few hundred pounds across your shoulders and stepping away from the rack. You feel like you're stepping out onto a tightrope with no net. You know that once you get ass deep in that hole, it's all on you to get your ass back out. It's real easy to talk yourself out of a heavy squat. You just gotta get under that bar and do it...no thinking...just down and up....like your life depends on it.

Did some foam rolling and then soaked in the hot tub. Tomorrow will be some light calistenics to get some blood into the muscles. I will start my test cycle tonight and slam it into full gear on Thursday morning.

I will probably work up to heavy singles the second week. I've been off a week and a half and I want to warm back into it before I really slam my body

Was really tired today, but strength was good. First day back, and was trying to ease back into it. Benching was slow, but still good. Almost hit a double on the 265, which would have been awesome since 275 is my current PR for a single. Dips weren't so good, but oh well lol. Help Brandon with squatting today, checked depth and spotted. He worked up 7pps for 4 reps. I know when Kellum and Byrd bring their A game it is really going to be a clash of the titans.

I finally hit my groove squatting today, sat it back right and didn't lean. Now to find it next time, and the time after. It was both easier and harder, if that makes any sense. The workout ran alittle long, ended up talking to a new powerlifter in the gym. Really small guy, probably about 155, but is pulling and squatting over three times his weight raw. We got into a deadlift form discussion, he had some ideas I might try out next time.

Tri's went good, bi's not so much. I actually moved alittle backwards on them. Oh well, they will get slammed with back work on Tuesday. The 765 was more just to see if I could lift it, much less hold it. Apparently, I am still underestimating myself.

They went alright. I've done better. Which probably sounds abit egotistical, but once I hit, I expect to hit again the next time. I kow I always won't, but it won't stop me from trying.

What exercise where you doing static holds on?

Just grip work using an over-under grip with chalk. I set the pins the same place I would for a shrug, and then get it up and hold it.

Actually that time I kinda of bombed on them. I've been up to 115 for 8 reps before, I was really struggling at that point. Didn't have much left

Then I went and sat in the hot tub for about 20mins. Prehab, rest, food makes for great recovery. Tomorrow is deads and back.

Its just a form of grip training. You load a bar on the pins, just below hand level, pick it up and hold it as long as you can. I hate straps, so the more I can hold, the less I have to use them.

Ah. Shit 765 on that, you have very strong grip Seth. Gotta give that a try someday, my grip needs some firming up. I doubt I can manage 765 tho.

If I want to pull 800lbs on a deadlift, I have to be able to grip it first lol. Not to mention all my extra-curicular grip training, my right arm is starting to look like Popeye's.

I am not sure what the max is, I was shocked as shit to get 16 plates up. I wear sleeves on pressing days and it keep elbow pain away. I get more problems from bicep tendon than anything

I was happy with the workout, just unhappy with that one lift. I almost thing it was lack of warming up more. The 475 flew up

Hope the possibility of a strained oblique proves to be not true or at the least a minor annoyance.
If you need to increase your strength off the floor, do some deadlift work on a small deficit. I know our good ol' Sgt Rock swears by it. It does not have to be a huge deficit. Up to 3 inch is PLENTY to make you suffer. But it WILL get you stronger off the floor.

Hehe. Correct. Although i must say i cant use that as an excuse anymore. The only effects i have right now is a lot of rigidity in my lower back. That makes it hard sometimes to keep/get the back in the right position. It tends to tire out rather quick. But that is all.

ive only been able to train my dead as a PLer recently, like 2 months cause im an idiot and ripped my right lat in june. OUCH!

im so happy i found powerlifting though, i love it

They are, but I love they way it feels. And failure includes dropping down to knees, I just keep giong till I can't hold myself up at all.

They are bands, medium-low strength. You can use them all kinds of ways, but I am just using them on speed work at the moment.

Not after today's workout it won't lol. Ended up dilly dallying too much today, and had to rush at the end to make an appointment. Tried a couple different things today, one I will keep the other is going to the trash bin. The hack squats were done from the bottom, exploding upwards, with feet in my deadlift position. Squat form was great up until the last set, and I drifted forward alittle.

So I was suffering the consequesnces of having too much fun last night. But I rolled out of bed anyway and went and did something at the gym. Wasn't much, but I got the some blood moving. My first time playing with lockouts, and I learned a few things. Need to use a higher setting on the bench lockouts, and that my front delts are still weak. I felt like they were going to rip in half when trying to move that 315 from a dead stop.

Increased my weight on several of my set weights by 50lbs to increase workload over all. Pullups went better today, considering its a crime against nature for a fat boy to be doing them. But I will admit I feel them in my back and my bi's more than any other compound. Missed doing my reverse hypers to give deadlift lessons to a couple of guys that were doing it all wrong. But atleast they were trying!

That is some serious pulling, T! What kinds of things have you done to add so much weight to your deadlift so fast? I'm amazed at how fast you powerlifter types add weight to your lifts.

The main thing: deadlift lol. Devote some time and effort to it. Look at your weak points. Off the floor: work with leg drive. Mid point: try so heavy rack pulls. Lockout: heavy rows, e.i. Kroc Rows. Do some speed work also, work on exploding through the movement

No one at my gym expects anyone to do much of anything. Most of them don't get it. Those that do get looks, but no complaints, so its a pretty cool place. Not extremely hardcore, but it gets the job done

That is the idea lol. I got the partials on the SM Incline from Hola Bola. My upper chest pumped up fast on that. already alittle sore. And doing the partials doesn't hurt like it does on the regular incline bench. The last time I tried this I only got 1+25ppsx4reps. So its almost a 90lb increase.

So I am not sure what really happened today on squats, but I am going to blame it on Lethal Banana. He told me to knock the sand out of my clam and get the fuck over it. Ok, maybe he didn't phrase it quite like that, but I took the message to heart lol. But I hope to God it happens again next week, because it totally kicked ass. Maybe I am finally getting it. Had a headache the entire workout. Didn't affect anything other than making me spacey, though it felt like my skull was getting a pump with all the throbbing.

I feel great when lifting. But since I have been on it, unless I am in the gym I am lethargic all the time. I am sleeping more and still takes me several hours to wake up. I don't kno if that is normal or not. I will finish the cycle and see if it gets better. It may just be a coincidence.

Heh, none taken. I agree that it's way too crazy to start loading weight without having proper form. I did however mean that some people are still afraid of the hole although their form is very good. It's a mental thing ya know. I didn't imply that anyone should just load up the bar and try to squat. Nah :)

Everything went well today. Left arm showed some weakness vs. the right, had an uneven lockout on the 255. Bringing some cardio and more active ab work to tighten up my midsection, its was starting to develop its own gravitational pull lol.

Heh, none taken. I agree that it's way too crazy to start loading weight without having proper form. I did however mean that some people are still afraid of the hole although their form is very good. It's a mental thing ya know. I didn't imply that anyone should just load up the bar and try to squat. Nah :)

I figured thats what you meant, but there are some people that try to be 'hardcore' without being safe first. Proper form will lead to larger strength and size gains

Did some stretching and then went and sat in the hot tub and relaxed. The gym manager was finally there at the same time as me, and he agreed to let me keep a tire for flips behind the building. Now I just got to get one lol. Deadlifts and lats tomorrow!
