i've been away for a while helping with the barbell club that me and a group of guys are running and its been well. my last meet was more than dismal but i'm gettin ready for the apf ga state meet in august and i've got some help this time in as well to get right...

***tonite was a lot !@#$in better. me and matt ended up at 730 on 3-board and got tired on 700 off 2-board. we were supposed to double it but that was all she wrote. we did some suicides which we needed after that !@#$ with the 2-boards and did some band flyes, pullups, and pushdowns. i bent an 7" ironmind red nail really easy and within a 1 1/2 spread from the ends...for those of you into nail bending, this is one of the elite nails in bending...hell if anything else its front delt and bicep work...LOL!! our new guy, ted, is goin great gettin used to boards and learning technique. got up to 295 off 3-board and 265 off 2-board for a double. he's technique is gettin better and as that progresses, he'll get stronger for sure...

***tonite was really just a bad mood...had a !@#$ty day at work of dealin with retards and i really needed to hammer out some !@#$in aggression so i could sleep tonite. well...i did that. worked up to an easy 455 raw, then dropped down and did 405 for 12 reps and then 8 reps which is a HUGE PR for me! the most i was able to do one time as 10 reps. tonite i did 12 and then 8 again so the kaz light day benchin has been workin majorly. changed up things and did declines, pec deck, and cable xovers at the advisement of shawn frankl and hammered the back like greg panora also mentioned. my back was cramping up btw...LOL!! did some heavy declines..haven't done them in a while so 405 for 3 sets of 3 was a good start...i'll go up next week to 425 and see how that goes. did some standing shoulder presses and also haven't done them in a while and took my grip in to work the shoulders a bit more and did 225 for 5 sets of 3 really easy. i think these are goin to be whats goin to improve my bench..a lot of this tonite was thrown at me by winters, frankl, and panora so it seems to be the right way to go on my accessory day. i'm goin to cut down a bit on triceps since they get hammered on shoulders and benchin...LOL!! other than that, it was a good session...

***tonite was an awesome session. me and matt killed it! everything felt better and like we are gettin used to the weight again. other than that, everything felt easy enough. feelin the effects of the bending and the repouts with 405 but its kool..i fought thru it tonite. got vids too. ted did awesome tonite..killed 315 off 3-boards and tripled 275 off 2-boards so he's raw bench is moving up greatly.thanx to mason for helpin out tonite...

***tonite was a good session. jon was back so he did some squats/deads with us. me and matt worked up to 455 and having fun !@#$ talkin to one another on the way. jon finished up with an easy 315 and bruce trained with us for the first time using SSB bar and did 225 with the same tension. good stuff. then it was on to deads and jon did 405, matt- 365, and i did 455. keep in mind with the tension, 455 was close to 760 at the top. jon had an easy day and smoked 405 and matt muscled up 365. all this is on vid so it will be up later tonite or so...

**tonite i dropped the volume a good bit and just hammered it out. got a repout PR tonite...315 for 28 reps..2 rep PR from 26..i should of gotten a !@#$in spot cause 30 was within reach for sure which is why i did another set and 18 reps came up. i also modified my setup a bit more to decrease the range of motion which i will tryout on sunday. good news is we could have 2 newbies on sunday...seems my post worked! LOL!! we'll see how it goes but should be for some fun stuff indeed! the panora pushdowns are awesome. just a modified pushdown to simulate the flaring of the elbows at lockout. i should tell greg panora about the flareouts...

***tonite was an awesome session for everyone! me and matt did what we knew we do..killed some weight!! 750 off 3-board was a PR for matt as well as the 715 off 2-board. the 715 off 2-board was a PR for me too and we both had more in the tank i believe too. the new arch has been working well for me too...it allowing me decrease my stroke even more. jon tripled 400 raw doing the MM raw bench routine to get back into the swing of things and matt laird killed 365 off 2-board and 405 off 3-board first time in his shirt. lookin foward to doing some squattin and pulling on wednesday...btw...the other day i answered birdsong's challenge...did 455 with a 10 second pause on bench...and the vid for this session is forthcomin...

05.09 ME DEAD

***the other day it was me, matt laird, matt burgett, and jon hittn some rack pulls with heavy band tension...it was wicked as hell! laird did 315, burgett did 405, and me and jon ended up with 455 and could of done 495 which was for us near 900 at the top. we did some light squats before this but it was a good session to get some heavy tension in our hands...


tonite i did some accessory work DC style. 315 for 18 RP on declines, 225 for 11 RP on standing shoulder presses with barbell, 3 plates per side on machine rows for 18 RP, and HS curls did 3 plates for 15 RP i believe. i do these type of sessions to help recover for the next 4 weeks of training. i'm committed to keepin the ego in check and keepin myself healthy as per frankl...LOL!! oh and my bw moved up to 325 finally...LOL!!

its 3lbs ok...but its progress...LOL!!

***last nite was a bit more tougher since it was only me and matt. we both PRed on 2 boards with 725 which was easy for us. i accidently paused because i didn't feel the bar on the boards...its on vid so you'll see. matt had tech issues and missed 740 and 760 but the weight didn't feel heavy. lack of spotter for both of us played a part but we owned 725 and 700 on 2-boards no prob! did some band flyes and panora pushdowns and called it a night. it was damn hot too so maybe heavy pressing along with humid weather will do wonders for us...

***squat day was a good session. me and matt went up to 725 really easy and just need to drop lower for the box. so the SSB bar and bands are working for us. laird worked up to 495 and had some trouble with 585 but he's strong enough to do it. jon joined us later for deads with dbl 1/2 blues. laird went 315, matt went 405 and me and jon did 455 but jon had more in the tank than i did since he did another single with 405. accessory day was more DC training for me. did declines for 120s for 20RP which was too easy but all the gym had was 120s. did some pulldowns, pullups, front and side laterals, and arms. going to give this new shirt another try on sunday...i don't think we had the sleeves pulled down but we will see...

***tonite was the first nite in the new apex bench shirt and man its something else! as with all shirts, it needs to be broken in first so it will take some time to do this so i'm not worried. i got it closer to the 2-boards than me and everyone else think i would. matt had some "head" issues and missed 755 and 735 off 2-board. he's been PRing every week but he will get it right for next week. laird did a 425 off 3-board which is a PR and jon in a loose phenom got up to 605 i think. he's gettin a new super phenom from carroll which should be a better shirt for him. looks like we are goin to have to still recruit...having a lot of no shows lately and can't wait around for them but left the door open for them to come so...

i'll end this log with some words of encouragement from shawn frankl that got me fired up for this shit this week after i told him about last week's session:

"Your endurance should be built up to this stuff now, so you need to get on it! Don't be a pussy! It takes a lot of work to get to where you want to be, no pain no gain. When !@#$'s startin to hurt a little bit, it makes me want it more. Dig deep and go get some. Anybody can pass the first couple weeks of these workouts, but this is the point where these gains are going to count. You should be benching 900 lbs! Get after it!"

***tonite was core work pretty much. did front squats for the first time w/ SSB bar. it worked the hell out of our abs. worked up to 500 easy for a single and could of double it. i'm not giving my core enough credit so i expect to be over 600 on these soon and i do see how they can help on squats. moved onto deads where because of all the heavy band work, they moved slower than normal so i used minimal gear...belt only. went w/o a belt on the last single. did some bending later with a shiny bastard 6 inch and bent it easy.

i'll probably feel my abs in the morning,

thanx bro! the bending is just for fun. been stuck at a 7 inch squared bastard for a while now. i hate those fuckers but easily owned a 7 inch shiny and might give an 6 inch shiny a try. bending helps with confidence and grip strength. when i started, a 60 penny nail was tough for me and i was always using wrist wraps on bench even with 225. then after i started some bending, my wrists got stronger and was able to go without them more...now i i don't even use them til i shirt up really. its fun and its just as mental as powerlifting is itself. back in september i was bitchin about not bending a grade 8 bolt and now i can bend those without difficultly so it takes time and patience...but its fuckin fun to bend steel...

***tonite was an awesome nite of benchin. jon got his new phenom in and loves it. did 675 off 3-boards. laird got 405 off 2-board which is a PR for him. he's setup is gettin better...just gotta work the kinks out first. we dialed down matt's weights tonite for him to adjust his setup and it worked, did 760 off 3-boards and 745 off 2-boards. my best sets were 770 and 790 off 3-boards and 745 off 2-boards was a joke! it was fuckin easy and so was the 790. we jacked the new shirt a bit...the apex bench shirt. afterwards, we had a pushup contest to get the blood flowing a bit. jon did 71, i did 60, matt did 56, and laird did 23 i believe...its all on vid and its funny shit...LOL!!

***tonite was a session for me and matt to work on form and tech with 655 and to work on our conditioning. we did well...2nd and 3rd sets were our best few. jon went back into his canvas straps down and got some rep work in but it had been a while since he was in gear. laird finally got some good squats dialed in. there are things we have to watch with him but has gotten used to gear so his squats will go up. its all on vid which will be later in the week. did some rack pulls and had a wild hair up our asses to do 875(all the plates we had)which me, matt b, and jon did. laird gave it a good shot.

Working out in conditions like that will forge some intense mentality, making sure that you do not know the words "lets call it quits".

***yea shawn, it was fuckin easy...LOL!! the 810 off 3-board was smoke show and so was 785 off 2-board which is a huge PR for me. matt got a 785 off 3-board but was burned out by the time he got to 2-boards and missed a PR with 755. matt laird worked on tech work tonite tryin to get his setup down and jon took a stab at some close-grip work. the camera is broken so i might need to invest in a new one. i felt pretty good about the 785 2-board. i think i managed to get my setup a lot better and got it to a 2-board. didn't think i would but was out of gas for the 765 though. it will get better next week. lookin foward to a full crew benchin next week...

***tonite it was me, matt laird, and my bro rogie. we hammered the shit out of some lifting tonite. it was matt and rogie's first time doin floor presses. matt did 250 for 3, rogie(he's 190) did 335 for 3, and i did 425 for 3. everyone was lookin at us doin floor presses. not many people do them. the barbell rows were murder! 10RM was damn near exhausting. but we didn't rest must between sets but we kicked ass...nuthin else. hopefully we get this badass 181 to come out and train with us. i had him look at some records and he's hungry and a strong-ass 181!

its basically benchin off the floor bro...minus the momenteum. rogie did these the first time and did 335 for 3 which is very strong for a 190er. i have vids of them on my youtube page under http://www.youtube.com/planetrage

***tonite was a great session. hot as hell though. jon did good tonite. did 630 off 3 board and 600 off 2-board. both times the bar was movin a lot faster. laird and ted were doin raw work tonite to get their raw strength up so they did some old school metal militia raw board work which will do wonders. matt almost got 810 off 3-board and will get it next week for sure and he almost got 785 off 2-board. its crazy but he's making awesome fuckin progress! i did 820 off 3-board and 795 off 2-boards so what's in store for this next week should be interesting for sure. this was my weekend off so i enjoyed it well. went to my first bodybuilding show with a friend and had a good time. may have picked up a sponsor or two though. met flex lewis, a good friend of chad aichs. awesome guy! had pics taken with him on myspace and facebook. i got part of his posing routine on vid too as well as tonites session. got a new camera so hopefully the vids turn out sharper than before.

yea it will but you need time and patience for a shirt. that's how i'm able to do what i'm doin now. with a 365 raw bench, in a shirt, you should be near 500....

well a year ago, i was doin raw squats the same way...i did 405x5, 455x4, 495x3, 545x2, and 585x1 on squats with just belt. i did 585 for 1 under exhausted conditions so i went into a raw pl meet and killed 722 and had room for 750 with belt and wraps. i would recommend this to anyone. if your max is 315 then your last single should be 250 or 275. just to give an idea...also the focus here is speed btw...gotta increase speed to increase strength...

***tonite was an off session. it was damn near 80 degrees in the garage and hard to keep any liquid in. anyways, matt and jon were still recovering from their accy day and matt's back cramped up causing him to have to stop. i on the other hand worked down to a 770 1-board and missed it running out of breath. that fuckin sucked! everything else i did was on willpower and anger. jon is goin to see about gettin some AC, it was fine for a while but the weather lately has been unbearable. i was a bit pissed, 770 i would of gotten just need more time now on lower boards i guess but that would be up to frankl on that. we are a good ways out from the meet and got time to get this shit right. not to mention i tweaked my shoulder a bit but its fine. not used to bringing weight down to a 1-board and need to work more on that.

***tonite was a kickass session. every was done with little to no rest between sets. the shrugs and cs rows were interesting. i undershot the floor presses which is why i did the 405 for 3 easy. next time i do these i'll start out with higher weight. i overshot the shoulder press and next time i will end up with 275 instead of 315. still did 315 for 1 under exhausted conditions. these type of sessions help with conditioning and gettin blood into the muscles and joints too. nuthin here is done near-maximal weight as you can see. i can do more and with this style of training i probably will. i was able to do 405 for 3 easy after those 5 sets with no rest. show potential...

***tonite was a bit of redemption for me. by the request of the "freakshow" was to do the same workout i did last week and hit every fuckin board. tonite i did! i had some added fire tonite. a friend of mine from canada benched 800 in the 308s. we were racing to 800 and he got there first. so needless to say that fired me up tonite. matt was able to get past his back issue and was gettin some solid benchin tonite. missed 765 off 1-board which he will get next week and almost got 805 off 3-board. jon was moving his benches a lot faster tonite which is good though there was a bit of a debate on who is the faster raw bencher, him or matt. laird did some raw benchin MM style which he was goin well for him. he's doin his first meet in august so after doin 250 pre exhausted, seems like 315 will be possible. tonite's training went well for sure...here is the vid again for those who missed it...

***yesterdays squat session was the first week of our training cycle on it. me and matt did 710 for 3 on the first set, i did 710 again for 2(they were deeper) and matt did 675 for 2(and he's were deeper). this wasn't too bad and it seemed carroll's idea on taking away the box was the best thing. jon and mason, who came back, helped out. jon's back was a bit fatigued so backed off squattin last nite. tonite i did accy work a little differently and less volume(or so it seems). had a great session. first time goin heavy on side laterals. 100s were easy. did smith shoulder presses at the advisement of another big bencher and of course anything to change up. got vids up and will be up this weekend...HAPPY 4TH!

***tonite was ok until it got to the 1-board. i slid out of my setup and almost dumped 780. not too happy about that. did do 800 and 820 with a more solid setup. might need more back work to keep a solid setup. matt had an off nite. got 750 to a 1-board, just couldn't lock. ted did some metal militia raw benchin and did great. did a repout with his bw of 190 for 20 reps afterwards. our new guy, andy, got a 515 3-board and 495 2-board. all were really strong. lookin foward to seein him bench more. but tonite i guess is about progress...

***friday i trained with a friend of mine, wes. he's also 305 as well so it was awesome session. we banged out some 120s on laterals and hammers. went back to speed benchin to help my speed again and did some repouts with 315 for 20 reps. i'll be doin these once a month again like the old days. these really helped my raw bench. with the tension on the first 3 sets, it was 500 at the top. the military presses went great so next week switchin back to military presses without smith machine and see what happens. its been a while since i've trained with another 300lber and hopefully me and wes can get up on days like this more often. hopefully we will get a solid group today on bench...780 on 1-board must be conquered...

***tonite was good session. mason came by to help out since jons' back was still not 100%. he's benchin a lot faster than before and 650 off 3b was a his best set. matt did 755 off 1b, 785 off 2b, and 805 off 3b and still a 242. strong work bro! i missed 780 again off 1b but i know why. jon pulled up my shirt further and it got into the armpits and got seated. it wasn't on the 780. next week this will be different. i was a bit pissed and decided to do 810 off 2b and 840 off 3b. 780 didn't feel heavy at all, shirt wasn't seated so this will be fixed next week. now everything between 685 and 810 feel alike. 840 felt different but i can get used to it. unless frankl tells me different, i'll just keep doin this until i touch that 1b with 780 which WILL be next week.

lots of high reps and high volume. i looked at my old stuff from back a year ago and was doin less volume then so i'm goin to revert back to that. its goin to look like this week:

- raw bench(bill gillespie routine)
- cg lockouts(triceps)
- barbell rows( back)
- heavy front or side laterals(shoulders)
- smith militaries (shoulders)
- hammers
i'm goin to keep the reps 6-8 for 2-3 reps. i already know this works, so just gotta do it.

band flyes/pushdown/raises

***this week we all were feelin a bit beat up...even me. the raw work felt strong though. that gillespie routine seems to be kickin in. missed 780 off 1-board again which sucks. my shirt was up high. matt got 755 off 1b and jon got 680 off 3-boards and killed 625 off 2-boards. jack from auburn came and hit a session with us. it was ridiculous on his arch/setup and i think we all learned a bit from him. he got a 525 3-board and missed 545 which was already a huge PR for him. we are changing things up next week since all of us are a bit beat up right now.

***last nite was a great squat session. got 900 and got the feel of it. lookin foward to having more of it on my back. matt had an off nite and maybe goin into poly. jon is gettin back into squattin and did 675 off box. it was high but good for him since he reinjured his back a while back so its a stepping stone in the right direction and he's going back to his previous setup on squats which takes time. tonite, me and jason hammered out a fuckin session. 2nd week on the gillespie routine and our last heavy triple was a joke. mine as 415 and jason was 275. then we did our usual repouts. jason did 250 for 17 reps which last week he did 235 for 14 reps! i did 365 for 20 reps after doing 350 for 17 last week! pretty interesting on how this goes. we did some heavy hammers and side laterals and scared the shit out of some people too boot. i love it!

***tonite everyone did a great job. we did some reverse bands for a change of pace and for some fun. jon got a 785 3-board in a rage x. he was wearing a phenom which matt used tonite. matt...well...can't say a lot but DAMN! did 875 off 1-board and full range which with the blue bands was about 675 full range for him. he's best was 560. the phenom seems to work for him very well. kickass job brother! about time you came back to benchin! me...well...the 1b was a hard fight and full range was even harder considering it stopped 2 inches every time!! however after matt and jon both agreed that 875 was really 675, i needed more weight to touch. i was pretty pissed about not touching. moving the weight was not a problem. frankl has gotten us WAAAY far than i thought possible. good thing we got more time for the meet.

rep work for me is an alternate to speed work. i like to do speed work with bands but rep work allow you to focus on moving the bar fast. when the bar moves fast, the weight is light....

***this is all i did. deload i guess. the power was out and had to wait til it was restored and my partner had to go to work so i was left hittin squats solo. just worked on some form, really practicing arching my back back more which really helps to throw up the weight. speed was the key here as well.

starting next week, i'll be training 4-days a week, me bench, me squats, and then raw bench/shoulders and back/deadlifts/hammers. this will lower the volume on my sessions but will allow time for me to do deads more and i plan on workin in my dead suit straps down doin speed deads and speed rack pulls.

Suicides are doin 4 boards, 3 boards, 2 boards, 1 boards, and
full range for 5 reps each back to back. I do them after me bench. Try them.

I don't use chains but I do bands a lot cause it transitions more that way to speed. I do floor presses here and there but mostly db floor presses on accy day. I don't mind the questions.

***tonite i decided to go a different route. i went up to an easy 805 off 3-boards and then dropped to 785 off 2b and 750 off 1b which everyone said it was the fastest i've dropped it in months. so i'm thinking we are gettin somewhere. jon had some unexpected tendonitis issues arise out of nowhere, jack hit a 705 off 3-board twice it was awesome in a single ply. then matt, decided to a comparison between the rage x and phenom. it was fuckin obvious after last week BUT some people are a hard sell. he did 695 off 1-board in both shirts and it was easier in the phenom. it was smooth press. he decided to do the spf push/pull in two weeks and we will see if he can join the list of those here in the state that bench 700 under 300lbs.

we are making progress...

it was 700 for 4 bro. LOL!! but who's counting. it took me some time to work on that arch but my long arms, i have to get it to work.

and as for the yellow straps, yes they catch the bar if someone misses the hooks. they are lifesavers for sure!

***not a whole lot to mention here brothers. its a deload session for me. i had a rough few days and needed the gym to bang out some aggression. started out with 315 for 27 reps on bench. the fucker that lifted off for me grabbed the bar on 25 and fuckin threw me off. i wanted 30 so i was pretty pissed about that. went onto do db flyes with 70s for 4 sets of 15 and dips for 2 sets of 20 with my bw. did some machine rows for 4 sets of 6 with 3plates plus a 25 on both sides followed by pullups. went onto do a side laterals blitz. did 2 sets of 6 and 4 sets of 10 with 80s. finished up with hammers and pushdowns and that was all she wrote. doin a deload day on bench so we will see how that goes...

need a deload i guess
