Hey guys i just got home, had an operation on my meniscus today, they also found some loose cartilage, and at 22 isnt to great, i might have to stop running once im back to health.
Was just wandering about any tips on training through an injury, would you still carry on working the body parts you can, if so, would you ease up? or keep trying to progress?
How did yo ustay motivated whilst injured?
I dont want to rush or force anything but i also dont wanna loose to much ground.
Thanks
Josh

training through an injury is a very debated issue. i personally try to continue trainiing because i dont want to lose what i have spent years trying to build. I usually train body parts not affected by the injury until the injured area starts to feel better. i then slowly start to workout the injured area and ease it back in to avoid reinjury. working on a sprained ankle for the last week, was going to do legs today and got reinjured wlaking in the snow last night. no legs again this week, but i think its better to miss a workout than to cause worse or permanent injury.

I can feel your pain here brother. I had a complete dislocation of my knee in Feb 2005. Dislocated the kneecap, tore the MCL, PCL, and meniscus. Anyway, we're not talking about my woes...

When it comes to training through an injury, I'm of the opinion that you should do what you can. If your knee is bothering you, then you have to go light on it. Better to rest now and recover than to go back at it, hurt yourself worse, and be walking with a cane when you're 30.

But, your knee won't stop you from benching, or curling, or doing pull ups (just be careful when you land).

So, I say, do what you can, just be mindful of the injury. I remember going into the gym when I was on crutches...

Tore my achilies tendon a little over a year ago, was told I would be rehabbing for 4-6 mos after the surgery. 3 mos after my surgery I was atcually able to jog unassisted.
I took about a month off mainly because the swelling was so great and I was so hyped on meds. I believe my surgery was like Jan 10. and then by mid feb I was back in the gym.
I recommend the lighter weight, higher reps during a recovery period from something like that. I think theres less stress on the body but yet a good way to lean up.

Prove everyone wrong and keep the mass youve gained.
