I went to see a neurosurgeon Wednesday to get his advice on my cervical hernia. It isn't has bad as it was before I had decompression. It is half as bad. The doc told me to stop lifting heavy weights and use higher reps and change my exercises around. Do more aerobic stuff. He even made mention of deadlifts and not understanding why guys have to lift the heavy stuff. I thought, Geeeesh, did I pick the wrong doc for this advice?
Well, my training is rest pause because it is the only style I have found that keep the muscle from shrinking so much, unlike when I pyramided. I don't like high reps BUT I can do those with rest pause and still stay strong.
I told the doc that the only time the pain is aggrivated is when I do Barbell curls. The pain exists for 2 weeks before slowly going away. I have since stopped doing that. Yet, I can shrugs and I am ok. Ironically, behind the back shrugs with a slighy lean forward is what aggrivated my hernia after decompression.
Doc said it could heal or I could have it for the next 30 years. Siad onlyl if it gets really bad would it require surgery.
So, my response is this. Stay with my training but up the reps a little more and also keep tabs on whether any other exericises aggrivates it.
