Soon I'll be turning 18 and I want to commemorate the occasion with a tattoo that is goin to show my dedication to the iron lifestyle.. Any Ideas for a tat?

the only problem with this is because of our lifestyle, i heard it's going to make whatever I get to strech out over time espeacially if i jump up in weight soon.. which I plan on. Has anyone had similar problem/experiences?

a tattoo won't stretch. You get bigger, the tattoo will just look smaller. I had one on my back when i was a teenager... 9 years later looks exactly the same, it justs covers a lot less surface area now.

Old English "G" with a crown on right shoulder

Cross with crown of thorns (back, base of neck) w/ "SACRIFICE" in Old English

"Live for today" in chinese characters on left rear delt (first tat, when I was 18).

Haven't gotten one in 6 years... I'm overdue. Peace, G

01-10-07, 8:50 am
working on my sixth tat right now-on my left delt I am having my family crest done-when they lay you in the box the only thing you take with you is your name. On my right delt I have "vis virus vineratio" which is latin for strength and honor. I actually used that one to cover a small Japanese kanji that stood for "warrior". Left ankle is a bulldog from my college football days. On my back is a celtic symbol that has the initials of my wife and kids in it. On the left bicep is a tribal band. Not sure if I am getting any more but those things are like a drug, do it once and your hooked!

- It’s ART
- Not all Tattooist are Artist
- You WANT an Artist!
- Make sure you see their work on Skin, not just in a picture!
Oh … and IMHO make sure you can cover it when needed …

I'll be getting my first one here after a while.

I want to get: GOD GIVEN across my upperchest/collarbone.

Not saying my body was "given" to me.. cuz it sure as hell wasn't. It means that everything i have, even if it ain't that much, is given to me by the big guy up above, and it can just as easily be taken away.

personal choice.

I definitely want an Animal logo too though. I'm not really into having someones company branded on me, but theres a deep meaning to the big A. I'd get it on my forearm.

Roughly from the latin-
Aequitas is like "equality" or "justice"
it stems from the name of an old roman goddess

Veritas is "truth"

good fuckin movie, btw

and i have two tat's... a tribal phoenix on my left shoulder blade and a byzantine style greek cross thats like my families "coat of arms" if you will

Tattoos WILL stretch over time, as skin stretches. Same as it sags on the elderly, and that gorgeous work turns to a fucked-up line drawing. I got my first one in the middle of my back, between the shoulder blades. Good location to avoid distortion.

Sunday I'm getting the best trad. japanese tattoo artist in NYC to put a custom eagle job on the left side of my back, soaring from trap to bottom lat. Gonna be fun.

I got three. Getting a new one after my first show in May.

-MacDonald in Gaelic over my heart
-A tribal band i created for my left arm. It looks like a normal tribal but i spelt it with the word STRENGTH
-1/4 Sleeve on my right arm. Its a cross that i got when i was a freshman in college. I out grew it and it looked like it was starting to get off center, so i had them do a big tribal piece around it that goes from just above my elbow up to my delt.

If tattoo is something that would've last only for a week,,
I would have tattooed Ultraman, Voltron, Macross and Transformers all over my body man.
I loved those cartoon as a kid too.

Im thinking of getting those 'OVERCOME' kind of tattoo like machine
something similar, maybe 'BETRAYAL' would do.
To remind me about a girl who betrayed me in the past.
Left me for another guy, and now she's regretting it,
But i wont look back anymore. I'm moving on with myself and with my weights.

First, make sure you really want the "A" on you. Just because you love Animal (like we all do) doesn't mean you should brand yourself with it. Its a lifestyle, NOT a mark.

Then, if you do decide you really want it... get it. Who cares what she thinks. Unless you wanna marry the girl, then there are other stipulations. But if not, Dump her! >:-)

Benway83

I gotta say here, she's gotta live with you. And some things are hard to look at. I initially had an idea for a tat, and she hated it. So I took the diplomatic route, and asked, "What would you find attractive on me?" As it turned out, she came up with an excellent idea, much better than the first, and it provided me with a plan for my entire back.

Sometimes, its worthwhile to take the high road.

That way you know it will never be looked upon as a mistake in retrospect.
Draw it yourself or work with an artist. Getting flash art is ridiculous unless it is script.

One of the best pieces of advice i ever got on getting a tattoo was to get the one you want. Hang it somewhere that you will see it everyday, like your door. keep it there for at LEAST 6 months and don't change it at all. If after that time you still like it then get it.

I also get asked all the time "What are you going to do when you are old and have all those tattoos?" Me: "simple i'm going to hang out with all the other old fucks with tattoos"

I don't have any tattoo's yet, but I have another form of body art you might be interested in. I have a large cross done with cutting and skin removal on my chest. I will get a picture done and post it when I can so you can see if you might be interested (unless anyone would rather me not).

Alright men its time... A personal friend of my family's happens to be the #1 Tattoo artist in the southeast is retired now and only does really expensive housecalls, but since he's been ridin harleys with my dad for a few years he will do mine for cheap.

I know I want one across my shoulder blades low on my neck, and maybe another on the inside of my bicep soon.

The thing is the only thing I can think of is getting Fletch across my shoulder and trading the T out for a Celtic cross(grandparents are Norwegian)... But I want something carrying weight to my lifestyle more than I want my name on my shoulders.

Anyone have any ideas of something I can get that would be more satisfying than just my name? I just can't think of anything off of the top of my head. Suggestions would be sick boys

Fletch man you gotta get what's good for you. I have plenty of tats, and they're all my ideas and all unique to me, which is what tattoos are all about: individuality (kinda like the BB lifestyle huh?). If you can't think of any good ones right now hold off 'til you can, you will be grateful for doing so. In the meantime, keep liftin to make those tats look ripped as shit.

Stay Up,

I have three tats and I designed all of them. I have a cross, arm band, and the Korean symbol for family (sister is adopted). Those are all very personal to me and I think you need to think of something that means a lot to you and get that. If you think of something, I'd be more than happy to give you opinions on the design of the tattoo itself but you need to pick out the general subject of the tattoo on your own because this tattoo is going to be on YOU for the rest of YOUR life, none of us.

like the others have said tats are a very personal thing. just search your soul about what makes you you, and it will come to you. its gotta represent who you are, what you're about.

I always thought tattoos were a personal thing..and it should be if your going to stain your body permanently with something. I know of a guy in my gym who has his whole right arm, the inside part, of the lead singer girl from Evanesence (did I spell that right?). I don't get that at all.
The best were the guys I went to A-school with while in the military. They were candidates for "Buds" school...Navy Seals. They would all get tattoos of the Trident on their arms and they weren't even Seals...most of them would not even make it either. It's like a 1 out of 20 chance a guy would make it..or something like that. I just don't understand why they bothered. 'All gung-ho I guess.

Look, I have 2 tattoos and I'm thinking about at least 1 more.

I know a lot of us here sport some ink.

So, whaddya think? Does the ink detract from the overall look? The physique? What's your thoughts on ink? Did you get it before or after you decided on the lifestyle?

Any thoughts are welcome.....

I have one tattoo that I got about 3 1/2 years ago on my right arm. Since then I've had a bunch of different ideas about what to do. The most intriguing idea I had was to do a sleeve, but haven't fully committed to it yet. I'm not sure if it's a smart thing, if I'm going to be able to cover it up on a job interview, all the real life issues associated with it. Then other times I'm all "I don't give a shit, if someone sees it and doesn't like it, that's their fuckin' problem!"
Since my only tattoo is on my upper right arm, I was thinking, instead of going to the left arm or my back like someone normally would think to do, to just cover my whole right arm with tats, do like a jeckyl and hyde type of thing, I feel like it's original at least.
Well, just wanted to see what some of you guys thought about it, maybe you have some other ideas or advice you can throw at me, appreciate it!

I understand there is another quote post about quotes but i wanted to share this and i know tatts are not a big part of your guys agenda to life, but this tatt is personal. it motivates me to keep my life moving at top pace and never slow down, because death is inevitable. my favorite quotes are my signature and "Life you may evade, but Death you shall not". by t.s eliot. i have it tatted to my angel on my back along with an angel of death. tell me what you guys think of it. i think its true madness. i love it. here is the pic. a friend of mine drew it for me by my request to get as a tattoo and also posted it for anyone who thinks they are tough enough to do the same. Im thinking of squeezing in one more t.s. eliot quote under the tatt even though it will be close to my ass. i chnaged it up a little but i will never claim it as my own or anything. t.s. eliot is a genius writer. it is " [you shall not deny the death after life] " t.s eliot. i think it will go good with the angel and the other quote. i think i will put it just like that or maybe take the "the" out. cheekshttp://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fs earch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dangel%2Bof%2Bdeath%26ei%3DUTF-8%26fr%3Dyfp-t-501%26x%3Dwrt&w=280&h=215&imgurl=pictures.agothsphere.com%2Fecards%2Fart_dea th-angel.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.agothsphere.com%2Fecards.php %3Fmode%3Decard%26id%3D38&size=12.6kB&name=art_death-angel.jpg&p=angel+of+death&type=jpeg&no=4&tt=38,074&oid=66e332e820389c60&ei=UTF-8 i got it big enough to cover my back almost fully, in black and grey of course, and all that detail is perfectly etched on my back. this man was god with a needle. if you live near denver, i can get you info. i highly recommend this place.i left just enough room to write that t.s. eliot quote above it. what do you guys think? should i put the other quote below it? also sorry about all the writing im just wired right now from the massive pump i just got from workout, just wore my brand new animal shirt, and took three heaping scoops of n.o. xplode.lol

If you like what i believe is poetry mixed with philosophy then go here and read this. its deep.

This is a question for all those tattoo'd animals out there.... My arm currently measures up like 32-33cm... Any of you got any ideea what happens if i tattoo it (been planning for a long time to get one, on the right arm) , and after 1-2 years my arm's gonna measure up about 43-44 cm ...how's my tattoo gonna look like? Is it still gonna look good or is it gonna be stretched and deformed? I'm not sure whether to do it now or to wait 1 or 2 years more... Thanks fellas.

yesterday i went away to visit my brother and sis in law and niece. he had scored some free tickets to a Leaf game, and invited me to go; these things are rare, and i jumped at the chance. at xmas of this year, my bro told me my b-day present (ya, its on xmas) was a new tat, something to add to my collection! awesome...
i thought long and hard what i should get. i have always been fascinated by skulls. perhaps some death etched into my skin was in order....mah, been done. on and on my head went in circles for the last 3 months, deciding on a design, and then changing my mind...it was endless. i don't necessarily subscribe to the belief that a tat has to be deep and meaningful; sometimes the off the wall, meaningless tats are just as good. couldn't decide...what to do, what to do?.....then it was clear.
my bro has always been a huge inspiration to me. he works hard and succeeeds at everything he does. he doesn't do things half-assed, he is a good friend and a great father. he has alway lifted, shit he benched near 300lbs in highschool. he is an Animal, and doesn't even know it.
bowing to my irish roots, my new tat is a dedication to my hero in life, my lifelong mentor and inspiration: my bro. i now have the word "dearthair", 'brother' in Irish Gaelic tattooed on my left forearm. it will remain there for the rest of my life, and remind me of the Animal i hope to become.

Ok, this is coming from someone who used to be a tattoo apprentice; THINK BEFORE YOU INK! There are A LOT of hackers and scratchers out there that could give two shits less what the tattoo means to you or how big you are. Remember that, and DO YOUR RESEARCH! ... Please?

That being said....I have two sleeves in progress and a LONG way to go before they are done. My right arm is black and grey bio-mech and my left arm has a stone mask flank by a fire and water mask to represent numbness and emotion (forearm). The top of my left has two angels, and a baby to represent my ex-fiance's miscarriage (would have been my first born.) And then to round it all off is the ex's name and some kanji's... soon to be covered up and or lasered.... Remember, tattoo's last longer than love!

Respect.

Think long and hard on what YOU want caus it'll be on you and only you have to like it. Don't just run to the first parlor, it was said earlyer above make sure of the artists work, most good ones will rework it for free or reduced rate (its their work their rep) "good tattoos aren't cheap and cheap tattoos aren't nessesarily good) the difference between tattooed people and non tattooed people ... tattooed people don't care if you don't have a tattoo.

I have one tattoo on my right bicep that I got about two years ago. I want another one, but I'm stil figuring out what it is that I want. I'll probably know for sure by the fall, which is a great time to get a tat, since it will be nice and healed by the summer. And yeah, like it has been said on this thread, think long and hard about a tattoo before you get one, and make sure you do research on tattoo artists before picking one. Talk to people you know with tattoos, and see if they can reccomend anyone. Also, if you can, check out the artist's portfolio to get an idea of their typical work and their style. Many tattoo parlors have websites with galleries of their artists' work.

Ask yourself... are you gonna feel the same way about it 50 years from now? Furthermore... what do you tell your grandchildren when they ask what it is.

Don't take it as me being negative to tattoo's (I've got one that takes up near half my back) but think in the long term here bro. Tat's are forever.

scott

i agree...but if your not a big business man then it aint a big deal. if your more of a blue collar guy (firefighter, construction) then it isnt a big deal at all. i say if animal is your passion, and it wont affect how you can support your family GO FOR IT. but if you plan on working at a desk to support your family you might try doing it where it cant be seen when you wear a shirt. on your back, maybe? i say thats a good compromise. i mean, just move it down a little bit. in the middle or on your shoulder blade. but all in all its you bro...

totally agree with this. if you are going to get a tattoo, get something that means something to you that you won't regret sometime down your life. i have 3 tattoos at the moment. on the outside of my left arm i have the aztec calendar. going all the way around my right arm i have an aztec warband. on my right deltoid i have my mom's name. those tattoos have great meaning to me and i will never regret having them on my body. also, i got them in an area where they can be concealed. i work for the government on a military installation and i don't think they would appreciate it if i had tattoos hanging out all over the place.

Lad and Vin were also there for this one...we have a certain female bodybuilder who is a big fan, she got the Animal logo on her lower back it looks great. We gave away FREE ANIMAL LOGO TATOOS a few years ago, the slots booked up for all 3 days in 15 minutes, with a 3 hour wait in line. Unfortunately, our project got shut down mid way through, but many animals got their free tats, you can see the pics online on the animal site.

Same goes with my upper arm my right has a big armband and the left doesnt so i see more def. in the tri in the left then the right! So its totally up to you just remeber that if your trying to compete it will hurt you! If there big that is!

I'm getting my first tattoo next week Friday. Basically I decided to the the word STRENGTH right under my left collar bone, basically the top of my left pec muscle. Basically it has to do with my inner strength, not being able to break me, and even if i fail at something or fall down, you better believe im going to get right back up and go at it again. Also has to do with my strength for the love of the iron, its a mixture of both together basically. I came up with a font I might use, but if i dont it'll look close, somewhat cursive kinda as shown below. What do you all think? I cant wait heh.

you know i don't want to seem like a copy cat or nothin but i really want something like Machine's tattoo Overcome on his forearm .. maybe not that word but something else thats motivating as shit and will mean something for a lifetime

Dude, I feel ya' there...I've never had a tattoo, nor the desire for one...But THEN I got into bodybuilding, and THEN I became an Animal.

I don't think it's copy-catting: I mean, it's simple, to the point, and pretty much describes everything we stand for in a single word. I want the same tattoo myself, and I think I'mma get it, but on my exterior right bicep, when I achieve my "six-pack" goal I've set.

Thoughts??

I understand the stencil idea but, still alot of swoops and double lines ect. not saying it can be done but, i dont think a lot of artist would. IMO, its also good to know that if you want a artist that and do letters or an artist that can actually tat. Stencils are a joke! Just like flash!

HNIC Head Nerd in Charge
HNIC Head Nurse In Charge
HNIC Head Nut In Charge
HNIC Hockey Night In Canada
taken from here:

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I see lots of interesting or meaningful things you can get inked into your skin but to me, if it's not the result of some exceptional achievement on my part I don't feel warranted in getting one. Example, guys in the USMC, hell yeah, get the USMC - it has a big meaning behind it.

I like the idea of the tribal significance/rite of passage. Maybe if I hit one of my long term goals I'll do it. Just seems like something that permanent should have some real story and achievement behind it. I figure most don't take it this seriously, but for me I'm hung up on this idea. I gotta slay some big monster before I can bear the mark of glory...something like that.

Funny you should mention the USMC Eagle Globe and Anchor (EGA) I have it on my left bicep, was I a Jarhead? No, but my father was. He was a man I always looked up too, when he passed, I felt it was only right to give him a fitting memorial. All in all, I agree with you, you have to earn the ink

my parents hate all of mine and threatened to stop paying for my college if i got anymore, so i got my ears gauged and they re ok with that, they are both mid 50's. I dont understand why they hate something they cant see when i have a shirt on but are ok with holes in my ears.

What I thought was interesting was that the #1 reason for getting one was that it made people feel "rebellious". Maybe 30-40 years ago, when it was truly fringe, or during the 19th century. Now, tattoos have gone mainstream, with mainstream celebrities sporting them. Go figure.

I also have a smaller tribal on my back. At the time It represented all of the closest people i have lost. all of the 'ends' are those individuals. still means the same

My next job (hopefully) strongly frowns on earings and tat's. Sometimes you need to realize what you do can affect your work. Like getting a full sleeve or something. I believe shouldnt affect the work place, but sadly it does.

Depending on what you do your appearance has a major impact on your employment. I can tell you that I have had a couple of younger guys come in for interviews with me and I decided at the onset that i wouldn't hire them because they (young white boys) had the big circles inside their ears (african tribal I think). I don't see how you can do something like this to your body and expect to hold a corporate position. You have to come to an understanding that there is always going to be a line that is drawn on weither you want to promote your piercings or your paycheck. When you are 18 something might sound cool to do, but when you graduate from college at 22-23, it doesn't come off that way to a 40 something person that you are interviewing with.

Like many others here I feel a tattoo should not be a basis for someone to judge your character. However, I think they should be tasteful and if you are going to have a naked woman having intercourse with a sword tat it should be somewhere hidden, not on your arm (sorry, but I know a guy who has one).

If people look down on those with ink, I wonder how they feel about my skin removal.
