Been lifting for 7 months now and have made some decent noob gains. I went from 6'0" 150lbs, to 170lbs at under 10% bf.
I'm pretty happy with my progress the only problem is my strength doesn't seem to be increasing the way I'd like it.
I squat about 260lbs, deadlift about the same and bench only about 170lbs (yes bad). None of these are 1rm though. My bench never seems to increase no matter what I try. I was told to bench with DBs for a month and my BB bench would go up.. no such luck. I workout alone so I don't have a spotter for bench which kind of demotivates me to do it.
I keep all my lifts at about 12, 10, 8 and 6 reps, increasing in weight with each set. The problem I find is I can get 6 reps with a "heavy" weight with good form, and as soon as I increase even a bit beyond that weight I can barely squeeze out 3 reps, struggling to keep good form. Can anyone please give me some solid advice on how to get my lifts heavier? What has worked for you?
