View Full Version : Hard Gainer
I have done the pak/pump/stak2/mstak combo in the past...worked a lil for me. i really need to change my entire diet and all that jazz as well as my pack routines. I want to get some serious size on me and go stronger..just like everyone else!
so i am definitely trying to bulk up here.
currently i weigh 163. my goal is 200...sounds insane, but it is what i want to hit by the years end.

I'm right there with ya bro.. i've been bustin my ass just to get to a buck 50 and I have finally gotten there in the past couple weeks. this year of 2007 is when i will make miracles happen and hit 200 by year end. so help me god...
I've tried just about every animal supp. and others and they have helped me gain some here and there but nothing helped me more than good hearty diet and loads of clean protein.. no supplement i have ever used (and i have bought a lot of em) has ever helped me put on that much weight as that.
To summarize my journey real quick, i started liftin the animal way in June of 2006 and i started at 125 lbs with 7% bf.. right now i'm 148 with only 8% bf.. 25 lbs in 6 months is not bad at all i think for a die hard ectomorph..

Add some Real Gains, Great Gains, or Animal Max to your supp regimen.

Animal Max is a bread and butter, old school supplement. Basically protein, creatine mono and glutamine. It's a product that's solid, but not heavily emphasized. For weight, I think, if you're already using creatine like Animal Pump, for example, Real Gains would be a better option. But even before that, you have to get your diet in order. There are only 3 keys to weight gain: calories, calories, calories.

Good call... I'd simply keep your whole food meal plan the same, prioritizing lean proteins and healthy carbs and add 3 servings of Real Gains a day... Upon waking, mid-day and before bed. That will do the trick... Mixed with milk you are looking at an extra 2000+ kcals and 180g of protein a day. Peace, G

I gained 26lbs from Oct '05 to Oct '06. I ate (and still do eat) like a crazed madman. I take advantage of every opportunity to eat and pound some water. I actually dropped bodyfat during my big gaining period, too (don't ask me how I did that - I don't have a clue). A solid diet and training routine will get you there. I used the Animal workout #5 and it was AWESOME. Check it out.
Ive went from 135 (March 2006) to 175 currently. I used many supps but i think animal pak, whey, creatine, and eating every 2-3 hours was the deciding factor in my gains. A gainer like real gains will make a big difference as well.

No good diet - no gains. Simple as that, bro.

You can hit that. if you workhard, consistent with diet, and get sleep. Good luck and GFH!

yeah, im 20 too here. I have been free weight lifting hardcore only for about 2 years. i started at about 157 and now i am about 200. ive been stuck at 200 lately but i am a lean 200 with like 6% bf. but im thinking about drinking some whole milk to bust up those cals with protein shakes due to my high metabolism. Any one know some weight gaining plateau busting diets and training routines let me know.
I was a hard gainer at first. Sometimes I still am. WHen I started lifting I was 6' 2" 165 lbs. Now I float between 6' 3" 205 - 220 lbs. I tried a bunch of sups. What I like is Real Gains meal sup. It helps alot. I have a very high metabolism too. Other than that eat mad protien/carbs/calories. A couple years ago I had a hard time breaking past 200 lbs. I hit the gym even harder with Animal PAK/Animal Test. I also ate 8 times a day. 4 sup drinks and four high protien/carb/calorie meals. In six months I was 222 lbs (give or take a few). Now I cycle Animal Pump/Stak 2/Nitro. Every other month I swith Stak 2 with M-Stak. Real Gains has been a huge help for me. I think its the best shake I have ever had. And it doesn't taste like crap or make me want to puke at the smell of it. I think Animal M-Stak helps give me more intensity in the gym too.

I was 143lbs and I aimed my goal to reach 200lba(sounds crazy)
but I started real hard and in my 1st month I gained 10lbs(dunno how much fat and muscle)
and the key was behinde few words ..........
Realgains+Oats+penutbutter 4 da POW
and alot of oats along da day with an insane(workout 5days aweek)
and I think by fall of 2007 I will have my goal!!!
forget to say!!!lol!!! and da Storm\ST stack helped me in these 10lbs in one month .........
so i started drinking at the minimum of 4 Real Gains shakes a day with milk, peanut butter, and a banana...
Grow Pro twice daily with meals
Pak morning and early afternoon
Mstak in morning
Stak2 before training in afternoon
Pump before training
Shake afterwards with some chicken and eggs.
been helping quite a bit
i also jus hit a buck 50. my metabolism i lightning fast and i can no joke lose 3 pounds in one day by sittin on mai ass. the only way i can maintain is to eat, eat ,eat drink plenty of water, and be smart about mai supplementation. Looking to add at least 25 pounds of mass by the end of the year.

You're running a nice "stack" there bro, and the extra four Real Gains shakes don't hurt none too much. Look more closely at the whole food meals in between those shakes--that's where it's gonna matter most.
hardest thing with the real gains, i have the WORST gas and have been taking SO many shits lately..anyone else get that???
the majority of my meals consist of either pastas, or chicken and eggs, and oats, and snack on ice cream constantly

Never had a problem with the Real Gains myself. As for the foods, looks proper. Ultimately, it'll come down to the calories.
definitely comes down to the calories...i honestly havent sat down and added em all up. i pretty much try to make a shit ton of food and chow it all down every sitting.
ill let u know numbers when i get home.

That can help, as can keeping a food log if you are so inclined. It's a chore, but it may well be worth it.
just from milk, pb, shakes, and chicken...im already at 7870 for calories daily.
in all honesty, im not sure what i should be shooting for with daily calorie intake....

This is where experience should kick in. If it's your first bulk, having a log of what you did prior to starting will at least give you a baseline. Let's say it's 3,000 calories for the sake of argument. Then, you'd want to incrementally increase the calories--over a period of time. For example, for two weeks, go to 3300 calories and see how things go. No change? Go to 3500 for another two or three weeks, etc. It's about experimentation and trial and error brother. Remember, slow and steady wins the race. Adding quality weight takes time.
good stuff..thanks for the advice brother.
King1 has got it right. Eat every 3 hours. Be careful though-your goal of 37 pounds this year would'nt be so great if a majority of it was fat. Clean eating and basic exercises! Good luck.

as a former 135 lb. "hardgainer" I would encourage anyone who is trying to get their weight up to just keep pushin', pushin' food down your gullet, pushin' heavy weight, and pushin' disparaging thoughts from your mind...
your gonna look in the mirror and have that "little man syndrome" and say "damn I look small as hell, why am I doing this?" but KEEP F**KIN' PUSHIN'
as a now lean muscle 205 lb'er I would give you these tips that worked for me-
1)don't miss a meal and don't miss macro's in your meal (always have protein, fat,& carbs
2)add peanut butter & ground oats to your shakes
3)make a fat-ass lunchmeat or peanut butter sandwich, set your alarm for 2:00 am, and get up and eat! (you won't like it but you will blast through plateus)
4)always lift in the 6-12 rep range as heavy as you can go to hit those fat ass 2B fibers
5)no cardio, get your cardio while your liftin' (i.e. shorter rest periods & don't let the muscle get "cold)
...thats my contribution, hope it helps

Thanks a lot for the advice, were you at 3500 calories a day or what ? And waking throught the night to eat a hard-digesting meal helped you break plateaus ? Also, you say you had more results while lifting heavy weights in the 6-12 rep range but I read somewhere (and Im now experimenting it) that 12-15 rep ranges done with slow motions, and adding a lot of superset, xreps and drop sets is what makes hardgainers grows (since they have more "endurance oriented fast twitch fibers"), have you experience that type of training ?

I too am a hardgainer and I agree with giant killer. The 6-12 rep range is the only way to go. Unless you want to go heavier. I've made some pretty good gains going heavy as hell. I tried the 12-20 rep range for a little while and didn't get good results from it so I switched back to low reps, low sets, a little more rest and gained some decent weight. Just keep experimenting until you find out what your body responds best to and stick with that. Everyone's different. Just make sure your diet's right.
