...I guess file this under "mental training". I'd like something motivational, short story format, that when I read it a section of it (on the toilet or whatever) that I have no excuse not to go to the gym today. Does anyone know of a book like that? It doesn't have to be related to weight lifting, just people overcoming adversity would probably be good enough. Any ideas?

The first is "The Iron" by Henry Rollins, and the second is "Diary of a Madman", G Diesels posts. Both are very motivational for me. Also, look up Machine's thread "Journey to Hell".
Reading philosophy also allows me to get in a very focused state, but I like to work out in a very calm, almost placid frame of mind. I even listen to ballads and love songs while I work out sometimes...being pissed never worked for me as well as others.

suggest finding an original "Journey" book featuring Wrath's Journey..
or pick yourself up a copy of "Your Journey" the new release, not only will it keep you inspired it will also allow you to log a years worth of
hard work and dedication that you can continuously go through and see the progress you've made..

All great choices. I've read some but not others, so thanks.
I researched some books and ended up with "Iron Mind" by Randall J. Strossen and "Strong Enough?" by Mark Rippetoe, any opinions from those who have read either would be appreciated.

Dinosaur Training by Brooks Kubik, a modern classic and overall great read. There's 2 chapters (maybe 3, I forget) dedicated alone to the mental aspects of training.

Animal Manual...
This fits what your looking for EXACTLY!
Animal use to send them out free... now I think you can only get it as a .pdf format.
Maybe someone has an extra copy, or you can call corporate and ask for one. Well worth the effort to find though!

This is a great place to start, it's got training, diet and motivational articles in it, another someone mentioned is the new encyclopedia of modern bodybuilding by Arnold, high intensity training the mike mentzer way has a lot of great stories about him and his brother planned the next days workouts together as if they were entering a war, and I have this book in my room somewhere:
http://www.amazon.com/Mind-Muscle-Blair-Whitmarsh/dp/0736037535
It's a little bit older but its got some good information on what your mind goes through before, during and after lifts and what responses your body has.
