Fellas,

Need your constructive input here. My workout partner is a female Ms. Fitness competitor and she's tuff as nails. She's also smokin' hot and gets a bunch of boys up in her grill. She handles them well but there's ONE d-bag that doesn't get the message.

I'm about ready to step in. I think she's embarrassed about it and not sure what to do. Gym staff have warned the guy...no avail yet.

How would you handle it? I don't want to embarrass her or diminish her either. We are tight and have enormous respect for her.

Thanks..

Xander

Well said ghost... agreed. When you are all in the gym and he starts up, have the front desk call the cops in. Don't involve yourself.

Thanks Fellas.. I'm gonna step in and have it resolved and have the burden on gym management. Period.

Yeah, if you pull a tough guy act, she might think your a macho meathead. calling the cops is a good idea.

now this is just me but, i would say something to him in the locker room if you got one, im all against the tought guy act, but if someone was pestering one of my friends and making them feel uncomfortable i would def take matters in my own hand....but hey thats just me.

while that is a viable way of doing it, in the eyes of the Law, it is Assault. so dont do that.

I agree on confronting him directly and think it would put me at odds with my workout partner. Although, it's the first natural instinct.

Gonna have a chat with the manager and owner tonight discreetly and have them handle it. Just dont' want to embarrass her..

And sometimes thats what it takes to make a point. Not all the time. But on occasion violence IS the best answer.

Coming from a family of Policemen i would strongly suggest against this method. You have no idea the amount of cards people pull out these days.

Why not just pull him aside and have a word as gentlemen? No tough guy stuff, no huge scene, no violence, no public humiliation. Just talk to him directly in private like a man.

Involving the cops over this kind of stuff seems like drama that no one needs--including you, her, the cops, the gym staff, this asshole, etc.

9/10 times a fight will only get you a disorderly conduct charge which you won't get any jail time for. You gota weigh it out. Let the "Authorities Handle" it, which sounds like there isn't much of a case anyway. Unwanted advances only constitute as sexual harassment in the workplace. 99.9% chances are they'd just warn the d-bag. Then he's gonna be pissed at ya for calling on him and u could possibly have a fight anyway.

I ain't saying walk up and hit him. I'd just politely warn him. If he wanted to make more of it, so be it.

Exactly. Nobody likes a narc. Didn't your days on the playground teach ya not to be a tattle tale. I never meant to fix it with fists. But if he wants to go there..why the hell not??

This is exactly what I was going to post.. speaking to the guy privately will not be considered assault as long as you keep yourself
in check and dont cross the line.. getting Law Enforcement to handle this as G stated could just be a way to get the drama to increase
possibly causing more issues.. If you talk to the guy, do it privately, in person, in a respectful manner. I mean you stated the facility
has already warned this member already, so if you talk to him and it goes in one ear and out the other, then there are other steps you can
take, as in talking to management and so on.. but for now.. i would keep it in-house and just speak with him about it all..

That's why I'm pushing this on the management and not even going to talk to the guy. The staff have warned him, She warned him... and he's not listening so why would he want to hear what I have to say anyways. If I get directly involved the drama increases..and that's not doing anyone any good.

More I marinate on this, the more I think it's up to the gym to sack up and take some steps to protect it's members..

Thanks fellas for the input.. My first thread in 2 years ( quiet lurker ;-)) and appreciate all your opinions.

This may be a very personal question but......... You say she's smokin' hot. What are your motivations in this? Are you attracted to her too? Or it's purely platonic? Understanding this may help you make the right decision.

best adivce here. no need for a scene. 1 on 1, face to face talk is best. also beowolfs is right, if your chasing her too and just want to get rid of the other guy then thats a diffrent story.

Would you have a man to man with a BUCK during the rutting season as to why he is pushing up on the doez? It would end in a fight no doubt...then you are back to square one calling the cops anyway with the only difference; you both have black eyes.

Depends on your approach, demeanor and your level of persuasiveness.

Sometimes you need to just sit a kid on your knee and talk to him about life.

Gentleman - there's an easy, mature way to handle this, but first I need to gather some information.

#1. When you say 'up in her grill' do you mean that he's intimidated by her and 'up in her face' telling her how it's done? Or - the other kind which is that he's lewd and disgusting and vulgar.

#2. Give us a typical scenario

#3. What does this guy look like?

this happened to my wife while i was in afghanistan, she told the gym manager, they talked to him. a couple days later he tried it again, the gym manager asked him to leave. he has not been in that gym again. granted its a post gym and the regs are tighter, but even in a commercial gym, they have the right to refuse service to a customer.

many possibilities

Have your training partner humiliate him. Nothing some macho asshole hates more than a witty girl just demolishing him verbally in front of a gym.

or

be smart and just tell management to take care of it or they are losing two members

I was in the gym yesterday and between sets and using all my abilities to not throw a plate at some old ladies head I thought about starting a rant thread to get out all of the bullshit and funny ass things I or we see at the gym. This is probably the only way to keep me sane and will help knowing that others see this same crap. It may be worse for those that use a commercial gym. Although I am on a military base any retired military can also come.

So yesterday I was doing my new routine, was on the 3rd set of deadlifts and I was supersetting them with body weight dips. I moved the bard down by that weird ass gravitron machine. I threw a 25lb plate on it to keep the assistance thing on the ground so I could use it for dips. I have to make it look used because everyday at 1515 a guy on base comes in and tries to buddy up with me. I fell for this shit once. He uses like 90 lbs of assistance (probably only weights 130) and then does sets of like fucking 40. I got lucky today and beat him to it. NOw the funny part is I am moving on to BO Row's and then head around the room to grab a drink. Almost run over some lady who is in the free weight room doing fucking lunges around the area. There is barely any room to walk and this fricking beotch is doing lunges around us all. There is a small group of us who train and keep to ourselves only talking to get a spot. This is what I mean when I wanted to throw a plate at her head. There is an entire indoor track less than 1 doorway and 20 feet away.

Trust me.. I always wonder why people do some of the things they do, inside of say, a power rack, or near me when I'm trying to just simply squat or deadlift and go home. OR, why the hell is someone standing on a bench and doing shrugs for when I need to work my board presses?

Oh well, such is the iron game. Funny at times, but the funny stuff usually leads to us wanting to kill someone.

Stay hungry bro!

I know how u feel. I work for a Gov't contractor and the military has a small gym set up for there guys and us to use. It has decent equipment and a flat screen with Direct TV. Which is the problem, i will go in to train and there will be 6-10 guys just sitting on all the equipment watchin Cinemax porn movies instead of working out. I finally quit using that Gym and went back to training in the TINY(15x20) "Gym" at the Fire Hall. It may be small but at least I'm the only one there.

There will always be someone or something that pisses us off at the gym. Whether its someone using a piece of equipment for too long, or taking up too much space, or acting a fool. In the end, we must remember that each and every one of us represents this sport each time we step foot into a gym. Wait an extra minute, take the longer route back to where you were, or ignore the attention seeker.

Be above the fray.

You have to remember that even the most aggravating of people who perfrom the most idiotic reps and sets still has just as much rite and freedom in that gym as you do.

This is true but very disappointing at the same time. Sometime a Rear Naked Choke would make me feel so much better. Just slip in from behind and choke em out. I would even let them down gently do my sets and move on before they wake up. Just saying it is a nice visual as I am walking away and waiting.....

I have enough problems trying to get my business started and make enough money to eat, have running water and power, to worry about what other people do at the gym. First order of business is to join a gym that discourages general douchebaggery. If that isn't possible, use of headphones/ipod has been a lifesaver for me.

MR.TeachFreak

Its always going to be a issue unless you find a gym that enforces the rules or has a dedicated membership. I just stick my head phones in and go do my business. I take care of myself in the gym and get out.

Though my new gym there is a fairly dedicated membership so it is not that bad.

Just happened yesterday. Back day (usually leave deads for last) go to the rack room, (2 squat racks, 1 power rack) notice both squat racks are in use, one guy doing rows, and some chick with a trainer doing squats with the bar, which pissed me off cuz she could just get the bar off the curl bar rack, but thats not made me rage.

This middle aged woman, in pretty decent shape, doing fuckin aerobics or some gay form of Calisthenics i really don't know what they were but it looked like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcWKz97WQFA I SHIT YOU NOT and doing some sort of jump lunges back and forth right in front of the power rack.

she had her towel on the bar and her giant fucking workout log the size of my university thesis paper and chliche middle aged woman gym equipment laying on the ground... now this lady isnt new but most of the time the other shit is free so its no big deal and no one pays her any mind.

So i went up and polity informed her that there was a giant aerobic studio that was empty were she could go and do her stuff and that i needed to use the bar and the space and she just gave me this nasty screw face and bitched about how shes been coming there for 10 years doing the same thing right in that spot, and how she has the right and all this nonsense, i really didnt know what to say at this point but the guy behind me doing the rows stepped in and started bitching her out for being a total ****, and then this thing just exploded and she went and got the manager and all hell broke loose...

She finally gave up and took off and we all laughed about it mocking her behind her back... good times, but seriously, next time lady.. go use the fucking aerobics room if your not gonna use the equipment..

This thread kind of seems like a place for people to complain about people in the gym seen as some kind of a lesser to them. Some people are just not educated in exercise or fitness enough to know how it's done but just leave them to it. Be above the fray.

Sure, we all get annoyed at people on the squat rack doing BB curls or some shit, but complaining about it and/or laughing at it is just as bad.

Be humble, offer some help or just shut the fuck up and get on with training.

Not sure where this thread got turned around, it was meant to be a light hearted joking thread. I think most of us has seen shit like that. I just thought it could be a comical take on some of the weird and funny things that go on in the gym. I think it needs to be closed down since it is definitely being taken a different way then I meant. I just dont get why some of you are so angry and being disrespectful towards me. I dont work for the gym so I am not going to go around telling people what to do.
