The instructions should be on the package. I boil mine for 15 minutes with a lid on the pan. Stir it once or twice to make sure it doesn't burn to the bottom. Let sit for a couple minutes to cool. Add the Splenda brown sugar stuff (I also add some raisins or dehydrated blueberries for more flavor) and chow down.

What I do each morning is start a pot of boiling water, sprinkle on some cinnamon (generously), separate eggwhites (between 4 and 6 depending on my mood and the number of eggs I have left). After the water has begun boiling, I add the oats, stir, and then add the egg whites, stir some more, turn off the heat and continue to stir. Then, if in the offseason, I add some fruit (a banana or something) or if training for a contest, no sweetner. Let the oats absorb the water while getting ready for work. By that time, the oats are ready to heat.

I have tried Quaker’s and another Brand. The Quaker takes 30 minutes and the other is 15 minutes.
Like the rest:
- Get the water boiling (1.5 cups)
- Then add the oats (Quaker was ¼ cup; Other brand was ½ cup)
- Quaker takes 30 minutes and the other is 15 minutes.
* Got to try the adding Egg whites like DallasMsl

Prepare the steel cut oats to the directions on the box. Make a bunch and put it in those glad ware containers when it cools off and keep it in the refrigerator. Microwave it when you're ready to eat it.

Looks good. I just added all of my ingedients into the pan at the beginning. Don't wait for water to boil, etc. Throw it all in there, stir on high heat for ~5-8 mins (depending on how soft/creaming you need your oats to be). You can be eating at the ten minute mark (from prep start to feasting time). Maybe it's a pain to stand there stirring, but no burnt food and the viddles are ready to be eaten pronto. Just my two cents. Thanks.

I put the oats in a small thermos, add boiling water, put the top of the thermos on. Go to work... about an hour later the oats are perfect.
One portion of oats and three portions of water, and a banana or two dice and thrown into a pot.
cook on low heat for 5 mins and start mashing the banana pieces, let it cook for another 5-10 mins on low heat and you have power porridge.
Among the best carb. sources ever.
i do my oats VERY differently from most...takes about 2-3 minutes at the most.
get a bowl/milk/spoon/oats
pour oats in bowl put milk in put in microwave for a good 1 minute or so then take it check how solid it is and then eat!

Are you using "Steel Cut" oats or "Rolled Oats"?

it don't say man. but it does give both options ( boiling/microwaving )
The "steel cuts" I have wouldn't cook in a minute... just wondering.

I go with the quaker packets that are pre flavored. They take 1 minute in the microwave. Each packet gets like 160-170 calories so between 2 of those and 4 whole eggs (70 calories each)I am getting the amount of calories I need for the morning. I go for 7 meals a day 500-600 calories each.

That's a fuckin' awesome idea dude! I never even thought of that. That would be perfect for me to take them to work in.
I keep a coffee grinder just for oats. Make them into powder and put them in my shakes. Just keep shaking/stirring to suspend the powder while you drink it. Easy way to get those oats in.
Am I the only one to eat them raw or just dump them in a shake?

ya know I didn't think of that... my blender kind of sucks and yea having a shake full of big oats all in it kind of sucks. I'm going to try that tonight... forgot about the coffee grinder. lol
What is the difference between rolled oats and steel oats?
Rolled oats are crushed and rolled, losing fibre, protein and nutrients in the process. Steel cut oats are just that, the whole oat cut up. They are much more nutritious.
I prepare mine in the crockpot (slowcooker) the night before, adding spices like cinnamon (supposed to help with blood sugar) and sometimes slenda when they are done.
