Well, maybe a little more than that....lol

I want to be able to help my fellow ANIMALS with any type of Sin City planning for the Olympia, so I'm starting this thread to kinda put all of this info in one place. I have lived here my entire life, and I love playing tour-guide to the Entertainment Capital of the World. If you have questions about hotels, food, traveling around town, attractions, etc., post it here.

The Sahara hotel/casino is less than a mile away from the Las Vegas Convention Center, which is where the O is at, but there is a monorail that connects the hotel directly to it. I just checked room prices, and they've dropped to about $52/night. Monorail passes are $10/day for unlimited rides. Free shuttle service is offered from the Convention Center to the Orleans Hotel/Casino, which is where the competitions are.

Okay, I posted something like this last year, and it worked out pretty well. Let me know...

Las Vegas: THE world capital of buffets!
There are some amazing feasts out here, from $5 feeding frenzies to $70 extravaganzas, and all of them are all-you-can-shove-down-your-throat. On a side note, a few of the Strip hotels offering this fucking great deal at their buffet: Pay around $40 one time, and eat at their buffet anytime all day long! No shit - Morning, noon, night, and any time inbetween. Sick.......

Okay, here are some great stand-bys that are with in a few miles of the strip:

1. Metro Pizza on Tropicana & Maryland Pkwy. (Ask Big Al about this place....lol). Good variety of regional pizzas and other traditional dishes. $$
2. In 'n' Out Burger on Tropicana and Dean Martin Drive. All fresh made burgers, hand cut fries, and handmade milkshakes. (Do you remember this one, Ghost?) $
3. Tommy Rocker's Bar & Grill on Dean Martin Drive and Hotel Rio Drive. Good food, and a great variety of adult beverages. Very clean, relaxed, and comfortable atmosphere. $$
4. For pancakes, that Blueberry Hill next to the Gold's where the ABC will be is probably your best bet. A little further away, but they even have a "weightlifters' menu" with some great stuff on it. $

Great thread, thanks. I was thinking of going back to the Olympia this year. Any comments on the Wynn?

The Wynn is a beautiful hotel, very high end and very nice. Base rooms average about $200-$400 per night.

I just checked their prices, and they are still around $52/day. However, now they're throwing in free fun shit like roller coaster rides and stuff at their NASCAR center.

True.

There are ALOT of great steakhouses out here, from the basic to you-need-to-sell-your-house-to-pay-for-the-bill locations.

In my opinion, the best bang for your Animal buck is Texas de Brazil. They offer a TON of different kinds of meat, served churrascaria style, and have a huge appetizer salad bar. You can seriously and easily eat for 2 hours without batting an eye. Costs about $50/person. Located on Las Vegas Blvd (the Strip), less than five miles from the major hotels.

LOL.

I'm normally not a big fan of restaurants owned by the "famous" or "popular." I have found that most are pretentious, overpriced, have moderate taste and shitty service. If it's the "new, hip place" to go, you will not find me there. That is why I have found that most of the best places to eat, especially on the higher end, are operated by the hotels. They already are excellent in customer service, and it carries over to their restaurants. I hate going to places where I feel that I should be thanking them for allowing me to eat there.

Okay, I will get off my soap box now....

If you like Japanese food, you gotta eat at Okada restaurant in the Wynn.

Mr Okada is Wynn's primary shareholder, and he built that restaurant in honor of Okada.
There is a lone table outside at the base of this huge waterfall. $5000 just to RESERVE that table!
Security has to escort you if you wanna see this table. Its crazy!

My brother used to be a Sous Chef at Okada, and it was the best meal I've ever had in my life.

That sucks, cause I rode "SPEED" once at the Sahara and it was AWESOME!
When I went, it was $10 all day unlimited riding on "SPEED" roller coaster and the Nascar center.
This was a few years ago though...

Texas de Brazil is a brazllian-style steak house, and it is OFF THE FUCKING HOOK! Seriously, $50 for a shit-load of MEAT!! And their appetizer bar is out of control, too. The worse part about it is that you don't even get any movement because they bring all of the meats to your table - forget about any in-between courses aerobics....

Who's up for a dinner there on one of the nights of the O?

I used to do a double-double with 2 cheese burgers, fries, and a choc milk shake. But now, they now go as many patties as you want, so a 4x4 is 4 patties of beef and cheese. All ya gotta do is ask.....

The buffet at The Rio is the best in my opinion. It has every nationality of food, fresh carved meats, breakfast and dinner foods, and a large selection of desserts, all 24/7. You can eat there as a part of the Buffet of Buffets deal, which costs $50 for a 24-hour pass. The only problem is that The Rio is not on the strip so you have to take a taxi to get there.

Also at The Rio is the Voodoo Lounge. It's a good place to take your girl for a night out. There is dancing like a nightclub, but it doesn't have that hectic scumbag nightclub feel. It's a very chill atmosphere. If you go outside, there is a great view of the entire city, as The Voodoo Lounge is on the 52nd floor (I think.) of The Rio Hotel.

And while you're at the Voodoo Lounge, if you feel like drinking, there is a drink called The Witchdoctor. It costs $35 and comes in this gigantic fishbowl. It is meant to be shared with around 4-6 people. It tastes awesome but there is a bunch of different alcohol in there. Don't try to drink it by yourself, I made that mistake. I rarely ever drink and I drank most of The Witchdoctor, and I was drunk without even knowing it.

Vegas is an awesome time. But don't even try to stay on a diet while you're there. It won't work. You need to enjoy the awesome food that they have there.

Heads up to everyone coming out here for the O:

We are still going to be in the low 90s next weekend (over 100 this weekend), and humidity will still be low. Pack accordingly, and please make sure that you consume LOTS of water while you're here! Even if you're indoors, the air is still dry and will suck the water right out of you. When you are not used to this environment, the result of rapid dehydration will hit you like a truck with no warning. If you ever become thirsty, you are already 50% dehydrated.

So, DRINK UP!

great thread rev - thanks. I got the weekend "off" from the family (they are going backpacking with bro in law) so I'm heading to Vegas for the weekend. Great suggestions in the thread - what do you think about the 24 hr fitness near the Orleans for a workout? I'm staying there, but thinking of switching to the strip.

Hope to meet u at the Cage.

You'll do fine at The Orleans; it is a pretty decent place.
The steakhouse is in Town Center, at the very south part of the Strip.

hey rev - Yup - I'm staying at the Orleans. I was thinking 24 was a good choice being so close, but i decided to rent a car (they are so cheap in LV!) so i might go to Golds instead - i go to golds in Oakland so i think it's free when u travel. plus that ABC thing on Sunday sounds like fun. i'm thinking there will be no shortage of motivation for me this weekend!
