Hey all...a little background about me. i am pushing six feet...and a very solid 175lbs at 17 (3 months from 18) years of age. I'm a football player first. which is why i have been power lifting over bodybuilding. Since football season finished i went from a 230 max bench to 285. and i've gained 25 pounds of muscle easily. now baseball season is coming along, and im scared i'm going to loose the mass i have built up over the months.
i'm planning on getting a membership to gold's gym which is by my highschool and working before school. how would you guys advise me to maintain my strength through the season while keeping my weight up?

still go heavy and hard, for baseball do a little more corework..but if you keep up the intensity at the gym you wont lose any mass and just keep eatin big

you wanna stay big you have to eat big, try and figure out how many extra calories youre gonna use to fuel your baseball and then kame up for it in the kitchen. eat like an aminal and you'll stay as big as one.
like the brother above said, lift heavy and keep the intensity through the roof, this will see you keep all that hard eanred mass.

When I played baseball we would average about 12hours of practice a week. If you are going to top that off with an hour of lifting weights you got yourself a guaranteed prescription for injury. I tried to lift heavy while playing baseball and it was a disaster. Best advice would be to train light maybe 2-3 times a week; and eat A LOT.
you cant have your cake and eat it too kid. I do landscaping work in the summer and i work about 60 hours a week. plus i work at a resturant on weekends. finding the gym is hard for me. and when i have time, im too exhauseted to do anything. as a result i lose alot of size in the summer. but know that if i dont work and make money, i cant afford this lifestyle, but more importantly, i couldnt afford to be in college.
You gotta make sacrifices. First and foremost on your list of priorities should be your schoolwork. if you're bustin you ass in practice and the gym and fallin asleep in class, then you need to recheck your priorities. bein big is great, but if you're dumb, then it means nothing. 2nd, you're making a commitment to your team. If you're tired and you ass is dragging at practice, you're hurtin yourself and letting your team down. 3rd should be lifting. if you care more about lifting than baseball, why play? You'll stay in shape w/ baseball and youll be able to get to the gym when you find time. You're only 17, you got plenty of time. do what you can, but only as long as it aint gonna negatively affect things that are more important.

This sounds like sound advice from someone who has experienced the vigors of the sport you are referencing and heavy lifting at the same time so I'd listen to this. Eating often should allow you to keep what you have and even moderate training should allow you to maintain your gains. I'd limit yourself to performing your big compound movements twice a week 3-5 sets with 65-80% of your one rep max for 5-8 reps. Perhaps after about four to five weeks of this you can throw a higher % 2 worksets of 1 rep with numbers around 90% of your 1rm. Do this for two weeks and then return to the training I mentioned. Even though you may not be training to failure this will allow you to keep your gains and stay fresh and injury free for your Spring sport. I have modified programs I use with track athletes that have worked well but then the goals of a thrower may be different than those of a baseball player. Anyway good luck.

hey thanks for all of the help guys. we have a 55 minute period for PE and i have it the last hour of the day. my baseball coach is my section leader and I'm just going to ask him if i could use the weight room on days we aren't getting cardio grades.
ill probably do sets of 4-5 with around 60-80% of my max varying every week to keep my strength up. maybe i will train hard on the weekend. the part about letting your team down hit home. I'm also the quarterback of our highschool football team, a Class 5A state playoff team...and i would hate when people didn't bust their ass in practice like i did. thanks for all the help and if there are any more ideas I'd love to hear them
As long as you eat enough you shouldn't lose any strength or size. Being rested enough for practice could be an issue if you're practicing everyday or almost everyday.
My advice would be to slow down on the weights a little as the season first starts. Work the volume back up as your body gets used to the added activity of baseball.
all that running is whats going to kill you. just make sure you exceed your calories.
