quick question... if i were to try training calves on a seperate day than legs, like the day before squats, would my squats suffer from it? are calves essential in moving the weight like the tricep is for benching? thank you.

ive never had a problem with training calves before leg day. as long as u can keep your feet flat your good. i train calves twice a week (with back, then delts), i think its a much better strat for calves because on leg day im so drained that i cant really do anything more than quads/hams

Calves do a play role when you train legs, however it is very insignificant. Its all based on personal preference I believe. If you have no problem training legs after calves then do it. I have never felt any difference with my percentages doing calves the day before legs. Like RK said, I train my calves on different day than legs because after I hit quads/hams I can't give calves full effort, which is why I do them first on separate days.
