Until July, I was doing great! I was training for strongman and powerlifting and doing very well at it. That was until I had a major set back. I broke a bone, tore a ligiment and several muscles in my left foot, setting me back 6 weeks on anything even remotely lower body related. I have just barely started being able to work out again and I have decided I'm gonna hit it even harder when I'm back to 100%. I hope that in keeping track and posting my workouts for everyone to see, I will work harder to insure that I don't make a fool of myself or get lazy. Happy Training to All!

glad to see you on here buddy. I'll be following along intently

Today, I headed up to watch a buddy of mine, Chris Henry, compete in Sarge's Sequim Crew Strongman Contest. He did pretty well for his first one and it was fun and a little depressing to see all the guys out there moving impressive amounts of weights in unnecessary ways. I really wished i could get out there and throw things around with them. However, it got me more focused on training harder so next season when I'm healthy, I'll be a wrecking ball of power!

After yesterday, I was dieing to get back to strongman! So, today I decided to try some strongman stuff. Nothing too heavy that might risk rehurting the foot, but heavy enough to make me have to work.

YOKE:
300 x 2 50 ft
480 x 2 50 ft
750 pick
400 x 2 100 ft

LOG PRESS:
90 x 10 x 2
145 x 5 x 5

A few sets of straight leg sit-ups and leg raises.

Looking good in here. How long ago did you hurt the foot?

I hurt it the first week of July, so it's been 6-7 weeks. It's good enough to lift on now and last week I started doing some light weights to get my foot used to it again.

Today was a fantastic, yet, horrible day. I started AnimalCuts to try to get back down to the weight I was before my accident and it really did it's job and took its toll on me.

DEADLIFT:
365 x 4 x 10 (4 sets of 10)

PULL THROUGH:
100 x 4 x 8

GOOD MORNINGS:
145 x 2 x 5

The deads were intense. Every rep was a pause rep, stop on bottom, hold on top for about a second. I only gave myself 3 - 5 min rest periods between each set. The very last rep, I held on top for a ten count, followed by the fetile position on the ground, then a quick rush to garbage can to throw up!

Christmas
08-17-10, 8:47 pm
Once again, the AnimalCuts have taken their toll on me. However, I still managed to get a good workout in today.

BENCH:
410 x 1 x 1 (supposed to be a triple, but I failed it this week)
365 x 1 x 3
385 x 1 x 3
225 form work with a 5 1/2' foam roll x 2 x 5

INCLINE BENCH:
225 x 4 x 10 (last set was actually 9 1/4)

DIPS:
BW x 4 x 10 (BW was about 317 today)

TRICEP PUSH-DOWN:
(About) 100 x 4 x 10

I finished it off with some light dumbell flys and 2 sets of sit-ups. It was a little upsetting to miss the 410 for a triple, since 2 weeks ago I got 405. Good thing BIG BEN was there to push me through and make sure I didn't get down on myself.

Today started with moving all of our strongman equipment from The Garage in Aberdeen to The Storage Unit in McCleary. Everyone seems excited about the move, so we'll see how it goes. Workout wise, it was insane!

FRONT SQUAT:
225 x 4 x 5 (1 - 2 min rest)

PIN PRESS:
185 x 4 x 5 (1 - 2 min rest)

CLOSE GRIP INCLINE:
145 x 3 x 8

A few sets of core work

SLED PULL: (Sled tied behind, Full sprint)
365 x 3 x 250 (3 min rest)

After the sleds, I was exhausted. I threw up several times again and went to my go to, oh, so comfortable, fetile position on the ground.

Today, all the many back problems I had developed through my many years of football flaired up causing me massive amounts of pain and suffering. It was hard to move and sometimes breathe. Regardless,

SQUATS:
315 x 4 x 10 (5 min rests)

LEG PRESS:
6 wheels x 1 x 20 (back stopped me from any more sets)

Then, I supersetted some leg extensions and hamstring curls.

The entire time, everyone was telling me to stop and take it easy. I decided to listen to them after a while.

Christmas
08-21-10, 7:11 pm
The back did not want to work with me at all today, so I forced it to work anyway.

BACK ROWS:

I think it was a bad idea to work out, this morning, I had to take pain killers just to be able to walk. I had to slam a few tylenol before the workout. Oh well.

Today, I had a catastrophic failure. I'm actually pretty proud of it, even though it ruined my goal. If it didn't happen, I bet I could have done it, but things happen and you just have to accept it and work through it.

DEADS:
405 x 3 x 10 (5 min rests, On the last rep of the 3rd set, I passed out and hit my head hard against the floor)
405 x 1 x 6

PULL THROUGH:
100 x 4 x 8

LAT PULL DOWNS:
115 x 10
130 x 10
145 x 10
160 x 10

A few set of BW Lunges (BW = 315)

It was intense, and I've been feeling light headed and have had a screaming headache since then. It's a good thing I had friends and training partners like BIG BEN there to not let me push myself to absolute failure again. But, it feels good to push the limits every once in a while.

Today, BIG BEN and I just had an off day. He was having problems and I was still feeling like total crap after last nights incident. Neither of us got what we planned on doing today, but we still worked out hard and got something out of the day.

Supersetted
ONE ARM HIGH BACK ROWS:
135+ x 4 x 8 per

ONE ARM LOW BACK ROWS:
115+ x 4 x 8

PULL-UPS:

FACE PULLS:
100 x 4 x 10

Supersetted medium Shoulders and E.Z. Barbell Curls for 4 sets each.

4 sets of whatever BIG BEN told me to do sit-ups and they were hard and good!

I tried to push myself, but there is only so much you can do with a screaming headache and every muscke in your body cramping up all at once. Still, you have to push through.

I decided to go a little more powerlifter today then usual. More control, rest time, weight and much fewer reps.

BENCH:
315 x 1 x 3
365 x 1 x 3
385 x 1 x 3
405 x 1 x 2 (a little help out of the whole, but then the rest me)
385 x 1 x 3
365 x 1 x 3
315 x 1 x 8

SHOULDER PIN PRESS:
135 x 3 x 5
185 x 2 x 5

INCLINE BECNH:
225 x 1 x 5
275 x 1 x 3
Shoulders were exhausted so I decided to call it quits before I hurt them)

TRI PUSH DOWN:
100 x 4 x 10

TRI PULL DOWN:
80 x 4 x 8

After all was said an done, BIG BEN and I walked on the tredmils for a good 14 min while enjoying a good talk about who knows what. Although I didn't get as many reps as I usually do and it took much longer and I wasn't as sweaty and tired as I usually am, I still feel pretty accomplished about today. It showed me I need a little work on getting my form back in powerlifting mode.

Well, I just got back from vacation to Utah to see the family. Although I didn't hit the gym a whole lot, I still got a lot of work done and accomplished. Saturday, when I first got there, I went and did pit crew for my parents teams Demolition Derbys. I swung the sludge hammer around a lot that night. Sunday, I helped cut fire wood. We cut them into large chunks and I practiced loadin them like stones. Throughout the rest of the week, I spent a lot of time cutting them with the good ole fashioned axe. Monday, I went to my old high school and worked out there.

DEADS:
315 x 5
405 x 5
495 x 5

160 x 2 x 10

HIP THRUSTERS:

Thurdays, I did something that tweeked my knee really hard and it still hasn't healed so I've just been doing light recovery stuff, pedal biking and lots of walking. I don't know what it is but I just haven't been able to stay healed up on anything.

Today was spent at 129, training strongman events. The knee was still pretty tired, but I worked through it the best I could.

TIRE:

600 x 2 x 75ft
600 x 150ft

FARMERS:
110 x 250 (with a turn)
200 x 150

The knee got tired fast and the foot was hurting, so it was time to call it quits after that...

Then, I started to do some hamstring and quad work, and my knee had an aweful pop and started hurting so I called it quits. The squats were easier this week than last week, so some progress is still being made...

390 x 120ft
480 x 120ft
390 x 120ft

STONE:

Lapping the stone was what finally wore my knee out, which is what I expected and is why I have been delaying getting back into stones. However, it was good to get back in to it.

It is absolutely terrible Mr. Dead. We do what we have to though.

Took it easy today because I had already strained my knee at work today so I just went in an squated a little bit.

SQUATS:
335 x 4 x 10

Then I came home ...

Christmas
10-09-10, 5:35 pm
Today, well, I did a lot of pressing. It was the first time I've benched in a few weeks also.

BENCH:
315 x 4 x 8

INCLINE:
315 x 4 (or 5) x 7-8 (I lost track cuz someone started talking to me and I lost track)

MACHINE FLYS:
220 x 4 x 10

SHOULDER PRESS MACHINE:
135 x 4 x 8

TRI PUSH DOWNS:
210 x 5 x 10

TRI PULL DOWN:
120 x 3 x 10

Then thirty minutes on the tred mil. The bench actually felt really easy which was very suprising to me. But the workout was slow because I kept getting distracted by talking to people.

I would absolutely love that, Mr. Seath!

Went up to 129 today with a silly idea that I figured I'd get made fun of for. When I told everyone said idea, they told me it was a good idea and I should try it. That idea was a max effort tire. How many times can I flip a tire before absolute failure? Before I started, I had a goal of making it past 20. Here is how it went.

TIRE:
600 x 5 x 1
600 x 35
600 x 1

I shot way past my own goal. I was gonna attempt 40 but on the last two, I was so tired that I literally felt like I was pushing a wall. I wanted to try another set, but i was absolutely shot and wasn't able to do anything else.

Christmas
10-12-10, 12:51 am
Today was a super long day and I'm still super tired from the tire flips yesterday, so I had myself a light back/bi day. Nothing Impressive, but still got a little work out of it.

CLOSE GRIP LAT PULL DOWN:
245 x 4 x 10

Supersetted with

BACK ROWS:
225 x 4 x 10

WIDE GRIP LAT PULL DOWNS:

SIDE DELT MACHINE:
195 x 4 x 10

SEATED ALT. DUMBELL CURL:
40 x 4 x 8 per

E.Z. BAR CURL:
55 x 4 x 8

Then some light front delt raises and the good ole thirty min. on the tredmil. Like I said, nothing to impressive, but I still got a little out of it.

205 x 3 x 5

... and now I can't remember what else I did other than cardio.

TUESDAY
I just hit some various core movements and some cardio cuz I had zero time to really do anything.

WEDNESDAY
BENCH:
315 x 5
315 x 4 x 8

MACHINE FLYS:
225 x 4 x 10

TRI PUSHDOWNS:

ALT. DUMBELL CURLS:
50 x 4 x 8 per

E.Z. BARBELL CURL:

Christmas
10-23-10, 12:03 am
I've had an absolutely horrible day today. Debated if I even wanted to workout today. I'm not sure I'm glad if I decided to or not, but I pushed myself none the less.

SQUATS:
315 x 5
365 x 3 (The knee brace had to go on for this set and up)
405 x 3
455 x 5 (I had more but the bar rolled up my back and I got way out of form)
455 x 3 (Same thing as the previous set, just lost the form)

A few light sets of leg extensions and leg curls

LEG PRESS:
495ish x 10
585ish x 10
675ish x 10

PULL THROUGHS:
100 x 3 x 10

I'm tired, I'm exhausted, I'm in mass amounts of pain, but you just have to push it I guess.

Strongman day at 129. On and off raining slowed us down a bit but overall a good workout with a pretty good speed.

YOKE/TIRE MEDLEY:
480 x 50ft/600 x 50ft
570 x 50ft/600 x 50ft

YOKE PICKS:
660 x 1
750 x 1
840 x miss (massive knee pain)

FARMERS:
110 x 220ft per w/turn
160 x 2 x 100ft per w/turn

SLED DRAG:
525 x 2 x 50ft

It was a good workout and another one without the knee brace. I need my knee and whatever is causing me all this pain to get better so I can get that 840 yoke.

HIGA MONSTER

You are fuckin crazy.
Zack Nims does Yoke Walks and other strongman shit in blownout Chucks and I don't know how the fuck he does that.

840 lbs Yoke on that kind of shoe = no support on your feet and ankles IMO.

I use a light Hiking boot. I can't do Yoke in sneakers. Its too "spongy" IMO while walking with that much weight. I get Plantar Fasciatis just watching Zack train in that shit but he says its comfortable for him.,

I didn't hurt as bad as I have the last couple days today and the knee was barely even noticable. It made for a little better workout.

DEADS:
415 x 3 x 10
415 x 6 (got super light headed and had to stop)

PULL THROUGHS:
110 x 3 x 8

WIDE GRIP LAT PULL DOWNS:
205 x 4 x 8

HACK SQUATS:
2 Plates x 5
4 Plates x 2 x 5

Then I hit some cardio and that was it.

Christmas
10-26-10, 11:02 pm
Exact opposite of yesterday. Today, the stupid pain that I feel all over my body has been the worst it's ever been. It made for a super hard workout and actually forced me to cut cardio short, but who needs cardio anyway, right?

BENCH:
320 x 2 x 12 (The idea was to do a max effort body weight)
225 x 1 x 18 (Then Papa Seath forced me to do 2 more which ended up as him doing everything)

ROPE TRI PULLDOWNS:
125 x 4 x 8 (Never tried 'em so I figured I'd throw something new in)

A set of light dumbell flys to get something else chest related in

CLOSE GRIP BENCH:
200 x 3 x 8
200 x 11

Some light one arm standing dumbell presses because I've never done them either.

Then some various core movements and then a few minutes of cardio that got cut short.

Christmas
10-27-10, 11:13 pm
Went up to 129 today, and honestly, did not do a lot. I swung a keg around a little bit and then did stones.

STONES:
250 x 1 to shoulder
275 x 1 to shoulder
315 x 2 to shoulder (Had to tacky up for this one)

And that is the extent of what I did today...

Christmas
10-28-10, 6:16 pm
HAMMER STRENGTH ONE ARM HIGH PULLS:
335 x 4 x 8 per

Supersetted with
H.S.O.A. LOW PULLS:

WIDE GRIP LAT PULL DOWNS:

NUETRAL GRIP PULL-UPS:

45 x 8 per
40 x 2 x 8 per

E.Z. BARBELL CURLS:
55 x 4 x 8

SIDE DELT MACHINE:

Christmas
11-02-10, 2:05 am
I was sick today with a massive chest and head cold that kept me in bed for most of the day. I tried to get up and go workout, but it was just a mssive failure. I was super confident that I would finally get 405 for 4 sets of 10 today, but it just did not happen at all. I 405 for 2 because I hurt all over and it just felt super heavy. So, I went back down to 315 for 2 sets of 5 and then tried to go back to 405 and got 1 at it.

I can only hope this goes away real fast and the rest of my week isn't ruined by it.

Ed Eliason
11-02-10, 9:05 am
Good thing I didn't make it in then huh? Hope you feel better. I've got a knew plan for my training since I can barely make it to the gym on Mondays. I'll share it with you later.

Christmas
11-03-10, 10:32 pm
Still pretty sick today, but I'm glad I went to the gym because I did some stuff that I'm proud of and impressed with.

BENCH:
305 x 5
365 x 5
405 x 3
455 x 1 (Just missed the second rep)

MILITARY PRESS:
135 x 8
155 x 8
175 x 2 x 8

SKULL CRUSHERS:
95 x 8
115 x 8
135 x 6
155 x 6

I was super proud of the bench, and we had someone film it but something happened so it isn't on film. With the military, I was trying to work on stretching my wrists and working on lock-outs because my wrists are so inflexible, I am unable to lock out heavy weights even though I can put them over my head. And that's that.

Ed Eliason
11-03-10, 10:38 pm

Squat day. Not a lot to say about it.

SQUATS:
315 x 5
405 x 5
455 x 5
495 x 4

A few light sets of leg extensions and leg curls.

LEG PRESS:
405 x 10
495 x 3 x 10

And that was pretty much it.

Christmas
11-07-10, 3:00 pm
Ed had the idea to have mini contest training sessions for a while and today was the first one. We worked up to our working weights with 2 lighter sets.

LOG:
230 x 2 (60 seconds, clean and press each rep, 5 cleans)

FARMERS:
200 per x 220ft w/ turn (36 seconds, 1 drop)

YOKE:
710 x a little over 100 ft (24 seconds)

TIRE:
550 - 600 ish x 100 ft (50 seconds)

It was a good workout. It took a total of 2 hours and I'm tired. We'll probably do the mini contest cycle for a few weeks to make sure we hit all the lifts a few times in different orders. I'm not excited about it, but I think it will be a good thing to do.

Christmas
11-08-10, 11:21 pm
Deadlift day. I'm super sore from the mini contest yesterday and didn't know how well the workout would go.

DEADS:
545 x 5
315 w/chains x 2 x 10 (off 2 in platform, chains = 405 at top)

PULL THROUGHS:
110 x 3 x 8

That was all I really had in me. The deads just drained me even more than I already was.

I had myself a pretty good day today. I'm impressed with myself, which means I now have to set higher standards.

BENCH:
405 x 3
455 x 2
315 x 14

MILITARY PRESS:
135 x 8
185 x 8
225 x 4

SKULL CRUSHERS:
95 x 8
115 x 2 x 8

ROPE TRI PULL DOWN:
70 x 2 x 10

I also got a huge back workout from holding a baby all day as well. The military was good because I have flexibility problems and it keeps me from locking out all the way so the heavy weights really stretched it out.

Thanks guys!

Went in and hit some back today. Not really worth posting anything. Some lat pull downs, Pull ups, back flys, delts, and curls. Then some core and cardio. But, I'm thinking about hitting the contest coming up. If I do that, I'd have to start cutting now to lose the almost 20 lbs needed to make my weight class. Not sure yet, but I am really thinking about it.

I am gonna be doing the AAPF meet Dec. 4th. I plan on lifting in the 308 Raw Juniors division. My goals for this competition are 600 squat, 500 bench and 650 dead. Yay!

SQUATS:
405 x 3
455 x 1
495 x 1
545 x 2 x 1 (No knee support anymore and still haven't put a belt on yet)

LEG PRESS:

405x 10
495 x 2 x 10
585 x 8

Wanted to find my opener today on Deads.

DEADS:
405 x 3
495 x 3
545 x 1
585 x 1
635 x 1
675 x miss (No belt for any of them, so I'm pretty confident I'll get it at the contest.)

PULL THROUGHS:
110 x 4 x 10

BENT OVER ROWS:
135 x 8
185 x 2 x 8

LAT PULL DOWNS:

Then we hit some pull-ups and called it quits. The 675 dead broke over my knees before I hit a sticking point, so I'll hit that as much as possible on the next two weeks to make sure it's no longer there at the contest.

DO WORK!!!! can't wait to hear about it bro!

Christmas
12-05-10, 1:15 am
Well, today was a failure. After the massive amount of cutting to make weight to attempt a 1850 total at 308, I screwed up my back warming up on squats. While warming up on 315, my back had a massive stretch and then a pop that made it very difficult for me to walk and at certain points make any small movement. I ended up dropping out of squats to see if i could get my back to heal up for bench and dead since those are my 2 best lifts. I had to have people help lower me on to the bench and help me up and I had to wear a belt super tight just to keep the pain from ruining everything.

BENCH:
451 x 1 - All greens
473 x 1 - All reds though because they had super long holds in the hole and I'm not going to risk screwing up a shoulder so I completely got rid of the pause and just touch-and-goed.

After that I dropped out because it took all I had. At that point I knew I wasn't deadlifting because the pain was just massive. Oh well, I'll just let it heal and prepare for February where I plan on hitting a strongman contest with Ed and Chris in Idaho and a powerlifting meet with Ben Seath

Sorry it didn't go the way you wanted big guy. We learn more from our defeats than our victories and it sounds like you learned getting hurt in the warm up just screws up your whole day! either way brother nice working on benching what ya did with the injury and you'll get em next time!

After the off week last week, it was nice to get in and hit what I wanted. I've been fighting a massive chest cold and every rep was a killer. Every set resulted in a 5 min. cough-fest. It was exhausting, hard, a fight the whole way through, and I'm glad I finished it.
