Well, I just got some bummer news and need somewhere to vent. I am a senior at Whitman College, majoring in biochem, biophysics, and molecular bio (BBMB). My aspirations include continuing on to medical school and becoming a doctor. Today I got a letter of rejection from my first choice school (University of WA). I told myself when I first applied that it would not be the end of the world if I did not get accepted anywhere straight out from undergrad, but the news was still pretty devastating. I still have 5 more schools to hear back from so my fingers are crossed. If I don't get in anywhere, I guess it will be time to get a job and volunteer at a hospital to build on my application.

On a brighter note, the gym has been going really well and all of my lift are higher than ever. Just started lifting seriously last summer. Getting close to breaking the 400lbs barrier in squats and DL. Pulled 180kgs (~396lbs) raw last week, but missed my attempt at 185kgs (407lbs) today. Tomorrow is chest and tris. I definitely have some rage to let go of in the gym tomorrow so it should be a good day... if anybody reads this thank you for listening

Peace,

Yesterday was leg day. Oh how i love leg day...when i took my pump 30 minutes before hitting the gym I got all giddy and even cracked a smile while putting on my gym clothes. It was the same feeling i used to have as a kid on x-mas eve, excited and nervous to see what tomorrow (the gym) would bring.

All in all it was a good leg day...squats had me leaning against the rack to catch my breath, almost got stuck in the leg press going slow and really deep with 800lbs, felt like cursing after my sets of leg extension and curls, and now progressively getting more sore as the day goes on. I can't wait till next weeks wheel day...

Since I was pretty young, I have lived a fairly active lifestyle. I went to a small school were you could play any sport you want. In all I went out for football, basketball, baseball, track, and cross country. In 8th grade I suffered my first injury, i was running the hurdles and my patellar tendon pulled the bone it is connected to from the rest of the tibia. Long story short, six weeks in a straight leg cast.

Since then I have experienced my fair share of injuries. In 9th grade I played football and basketball. Sophomore year I tore my left ACL and both menisci in that knee in football. I ended up having two surgeries and was back on the field next year after 9 months of recovery/PT. Junior year I dislocated my right shoulder in the first game of the season (starting as linebacker). After 6 weeks of physical therapy I was back for basketball season. I also played baseball my junior year and ended up dislocating my shoulder (right) on a head first slide. This time I had open shoulder surgery to repair the joint. Senior year went well, i did cross country instead of fooball and still played basketball and baseball.

My first semester at college I started whitewater kayaking, but had dropped a lot of my other activities. Over winter break i took a nasty fall while pushing a friends truck in the snow and ended up dislocating my shoulder again. After PT i started going to the gym with some friends. By Sophomore year I had a regular training partner at the gym (lifted regularly but didnt progress much, ugh) and picked up rock climbing. After winter break I was taking a climbing class and ended up dislocating my right shoulder during class, back to the PT. I had another dislocation on the wall in april, after climbing at Smith Rock Oregon which was awesome. I ended up having a second bankart repair on my right shoulder the following summer (august 2005). Almost a year to the day of my previous dislocation, I dislocated my left shoulder (first time) in a game of ultimate frisbee.

It was after this that I decided that I would start hitting the gym seriously. I followed up with my orthopod, but didnt go to the PT because I knew the drill. After the initial healing and strengthening process, I started hitting up the gym again, i started slow and with super strict form, and 10 months later I am stronger than I have ever been.

Suffering an injury would have made many people give up on their active lifestyles, but this is what makes us Animal. Getting back up after being beat down, and striving to be better than ever. Life is full of obstacles that I will have to get over, under, and around, but these obstacles will never stop my journey...

I am currently back home for my spring break. This spring break is different because my parents are in this small place while they rebuild the house that burnt down on the 2nd of Jan.

This morning I was checking my email and have been invited to interview at Rosalind Franklin in Chicago. While I was sharing the news with my mom she started saying that we need to figure out my flights and such, and then was like, "we are going to have to go shopping for dress clothes, i doubt you fit into any of your old stuff." I took it as a compliment, as I am nearly the same weight/waist, but now none of my old blazers fit my chest and shoulders. I am totally psyched for the interview, but now have to prepare for it on top of my thesis, haha the pleasures of being a student.

I have been able to keep training over break at my old HS gym. It is a little dungeon with very limited equipment. Plus the DBs only go to 90, which i have been getting close to going over in many lifts, i guess i'll just work up on reps for now. It's quite the little dungeon so i might have to post a couple pics.
