To anybody worried about taking time out of the gym,

My old record for consecutive wide grip pull ups was 16 reps. I was really proud of this, as it was the most I've ever done, and I weigh 250. I took two days off in addition to the two day weekend because I was having some wrist pain. I went back today, literally just got in the door from my workout. My new personal record for pullups is now 19. A three rep improvement. I was ecstatic, and the adrenaline I got from it helped me power through the rest of my workout.

I'm usually one of those guys that hates to miss a day, so I tried playing it smart this time instead of getting hurt, and I came out ahead. Take your breaks when you need them. Just wanted to share the experience.

Thanks for sharin brother, I dont know about the other guys on here, but I hate missin days too, I once worked through a fractured thumb(boxing with a freind using the good ole 4 oz's)...man that was painful. Good post man, resting in those situations is overlooked far to often.

People do not understand rest and let the muscles strengthen and repair. Nice bro you should be at like a 100 in about two months or so That back is gonna spread out and get mad thick bro .

You are very right about resting and taking short breaks between sets and between training days, it only does the body good. However, I am the type of person that has to be forced to rest. I hate taking off-days cause it makes me feel like I neglected training and I begin to feel down. I am the type of person that has to go train everyday, like a shark has to swim to live...I have to train. I think its those endorphins that are released when you train, it just makes me feel alive or reborn. This always worked for me too because mentally, it kept me stimulated and strong. I may crash hard when I get home but even then I still keep moving, I never really stop till I hit my bed and when I hit that pillow...I am done. My house can be on fire and I would sleep through it.

I am on a new training split now, being I am getting ready for a show and I will have to start training 2x a day and cardio 2x a day..so I am being advised to rest wed, sat and sun. I use sat as a total rest day..but wed. and sun. I could not rest for the life of me. I went yesterday and did 30min on the stairclimber and abs. I was so exhausted and sore from the day before, but I just had to be there. I felt so much better afterwards even though I was exhausted.

Maybe I am just a glutton for pain? LOL
By the way, 19 pullups as big as you are..you GO!

Sometimes that has got to be the hardest thing for most, rest/break. In the past when I took a day or two off to let my wrist or elbow heal, I would take one more day off. It drives me nuts because I can't wait to get back to the weights but that one extra day of rest let's me attack the weights with a refreshed vengeance.
