i hit lower back pretty hard the other day (3 days ago) i did some stiff leg deads, and extentions.... i was a little sore yesterday, but no i can barely walk...i have to losen up before even walking normal...its deff. not muscle pain, what should i do?
I would go see the doc, the least he will do is give you some muscle relaxers
If you think it's something serious get to a doctor and get it checked out. You only get one back and you don't want to fuck it up!
Very light surface massage, hot baths and ibuprofen would probably all do you some good.
Is it a dull ache, shooting pains, in one spot, caused by certain movements, etc. Try to describe as much as you can when you're asking for health advice.

its a very sharp pain...i dont feel it sitting..unless im in my truck on a bumpy road, standing, it feels like i got stabbed in my back, it stays in my lower back, it doesnt shoot anywhere, but i mean i stand and cant move my legs that much because its so bad
Go to the Hospital.
they have Doctors....unless there is a Doctor on here that I dont know about..lol.
yea man I would go to the doc and get an MRI done.

i know it sucks, but some time you just gotta.....i spent my new years on the couch cause of my back....doc said i had to......and you dont want to have to call your kids (if you have any) to do your heavy lifting or tie your shoes cause you fucked up your back when you were 19.

i had a back injury a few months back where i needed to get a steroid injected into my spine because i didnt take it easy. That is a very very painful procedure. A good test to see if its nerve or joint, sit down with your legs out and bend your head down. If you can feel the pain when you bend your neck you have pressure on a nerve.
prior to having this shindig and post-injury, they told me if pain is too bad when i'm just hanging out to wear my weight belt at a comfortable level. Don't pump your blood pressure to high wearing it, but it will help you not aggravate it any worse. Ibuprofen is a must, and if you can lie flat on your back on something hard for a bit, an addition to this is to put a 2x4 under your lowerback so you have somethign hard pushing against the injured area. Or, if you can manage to sleep on your back, put a pillow under your kneesa nd this will help you heal a bit while your body is resting.
hope it helped.

Moist heat to bring more blood flow to area to loosen it up first thing in the morning to walk-function....Ice it to bring inflamation down and see a Dr. to get films.

I would go with big ant on this. most important of course is seeing the doc
the ANt has it right...but....just a short note from the old guy here...I HAD real bad siatic problems months ago....no insurance at the time....and did not want to stop training....and this was something that came up...like when I would bend over to tie my shoes...it was that tricky...well...I did lots of stretching at the gym...and mind you...when I would take 20 mins to even walk in the gym...slow like a real old man...the owners and trainers told me to go home...but I kept going...using the decline bench...streching....just enough to get in a workout...and in about 2 weeks....pain gone....no more taking 10 mins to get out of bed or scream in pain while driving...anyway I managed to get that lower back strong...now doing some nasty deads and lower back work outs and....no pain.....no drugs......no knife...now If I had the insurance..Im sure the doc would have said....rest...take drugs...but i just know in my hart...i could win this without either....not always the best thing to do...but I managed to work the pain out and make that lower back stronger...as well as abbs.....so...thats if from the old guy.....good luck....

I would go to the doctor like everyone above stated. However something that you might wanna try is Fish oil. I used to have lower back pain, and by taking 6 fish oil every day it was gone. I keep the pain away by stretching, protecting my back on lifts and my precious fish oil.

if you already are taking some then go see the doctor ASAP.
Repeat advice already given...go to the doctor. I have had a fair share of these and they are not something to mess with. The one movement you mentioned, stiff legged deads, have caused issues for me. Go to the doctor.

screwed my back up big time several years back and how to go to physical therapy. Moist heat, elctro stim, and lots of stretching. PT told me 90% of lower back pain is linked to tight hamstrings so stretch those babys out. It has worked me for ever since.

you might have messed up a disk in your spine, I would go to the doc asap, because if you dont you might be in pain for the rest of your life.

Brother, that type of pain sounds like an injury.
This isn't the best place to get help with an injury since we're not physicians. Don't look for a diagnosis here.
Like everyone's said thusfar, go see a doc bro.
good luck

Ok, well i have had this for months now and nothing has been cured. i have been to orthapedics and he said maybe a lower back stress fracture. i got a x ray and it shows nothing. Maybe i should get a bone scan. I went to physical therapy and it did nothing. they gave me exercises and whatever. i tried strengthening it and core exercises. I will not do heavy squats or deads right now. Well actually i just started doing heavy deads again because that is where i injured it. I will feel that back in the lower left part of my back. I would think the pain is sharp but then it goes away when im not standing in that area or the back is not in that position. I have no numbness in toes or any of that. My lower left side of back hurts when i wash even dishs and im leaning over a little bit in that same position for some time. it only hurts when i stay in a position for sometime or i bend down and its like half way through bending or coming back up. The annoyance wont go away and its just annoying. I injured it when i did heavy deads awhile ago, when i did didnt do deads for awhile then i went back into it and tried it heavy and when i pulled it up, thats where it happened and ever since i always had it. It really seems like there is no cure.

How about an MRI? it might be a muscle. I have the same pain and I have done the same thing, visit orthopedic Dr., Sports Medicine M.D. etcs....and nothing...just NSAIDS, Ice, rest and avoid all movements (like that is going to happen)....let me know if you find anything regarding the same issue....
Funny you shoud say something...

Listen to what you're body is saying bro...if you hurt it w/ heavy DL, why did you just start heavy DL's again...if I read that right? Cut out such movements, DL, racks, good mornings, etc. As well as squats. I know it sucks, but if it's that unbearable, lay off it for a while...give it time. Gradually ease back into those movements. Focus on form 100%...

I laid off deads for along time since i had the injury and it never cured. i avoided all movements to trigger that area, which i know which ones do. I never do hyperextensions, i dont know what it is. i thought it would heal over time. I just got back into deads because my back can handle it now and it doesnt really hurt anymore like it used to, but it still there.

Without a doubt if this persists see your doctor, he or she is the only one that will be qualified to advise, nobody on here is as they are not examining you.

be sure to keep good posture during every exercise.. also a belt is good for when you are going to do a heavier set .. I like to think of it as insurance .. when I started lifting I let my ego get the best of me and pulled way too much weight the wrong way trying to keep up with my more experienced partner.. anyways I nearly slipped a disc thank god I did not .. but I did have to take some time off all heavy lifting and I learned my lesson. Respect the iron bro..

Lower back pain's a bitch.. everyone gets it. Ice it 15 minutes every hour when off, keep it warm when lifting. And, for God's sake, stretch!
