Mr. Dead: First off, thank you for taking the time to do this...
So, how are you feeling...???
Vinny G: I'm feeling awesome, the experience from the Sacramento Pro will be etched in my mind for a long time to come. I really feel that I broke out of my shell, and i felt like damn, I'm an IFBB pro, and this is some fun shit...I had fun on stage LOL
Mr. Dead: How long was your prep, and did you do anything differently, than prior shows...??? (Training, diet, cardio...)
Vinny G: I made many mistakes in my off-season and pre-contest training for my pro but at the ny pro last year, as I did things that I have never done before. 1) I trained way too heavy for what I can handle, 2) I got my off-season body weight up to 230 lbs...Way too fat. So when I started to think about what I would need to do in order to be really competitive, and be able to stand side by side with these guys in the 202's, I needed first get my off-season weight at 220 lbs. and start training much lighter.
I put together a high volume high set routine that gave me the opportunity to be injury free, and have great results. 4 days on 1 day off was my split, and my off-season was so good that I never changed it leading into the Sacramento Pro. I followed the same diet as i always have, but this time around I had 70 grams of carbs after each training session.

Mr. Dead: How big of a role, do you feel, that conditioning and posing play, up onstage...???
Vinny G: Conditioning is the key, if you are not conditioned you might as well not step on stage, and if you get winded during the mandatory poses, for get it.
I practice posing at least 20 min every single day while i am in training; it also helps with hardening the muscles with even better conditioning.
Mr. Dead: How was it juggling prep, family, and your job...???
Vinny G: I can multi-task pretty well, and training for the contest and running my business were kinda smooth. The last week before the contest was rough though.
Mr. Dead: So... Any "off season" plans...??? And, what will your "Off Season" look like...???
Vinny G: My off-season will be close to my pre-contest, I cant let my weight go over 220 or it will not be quality weight, even my training will be lighter. This approach works for me.
Mr. Dead: What's looming on the horizon for you...???
Vinny G: I will be on the circuit a lot next year, as I think the 202 English Grand Prix will be my first stop.
Mr. Dead: What was your first "post show" meal...???
Vinny G: I was in California.....In-n-Out burger, right after the prejudging.
Mr. Dead: Anything you want to say, to anyone that is considering diving into the competitive aspect of this sport...???
Vinny G: I can’t stand a sore looser, if you get beat....Man up and take your lumps. Don’t make excuses like they don’t like you, or its politics. maybe who ever beat you, was actually better than you. Also, be very dedicated to your meals and push the envelope in the gym.
Mr. Dead: Again, I want to thank you for taking the time for this, and giving us some insight... You're a heck of a competitor, trainer, mentor, and person!!
Vinny G: Thank you.
