Given: back & bi's and chest & tri's training days. 12 tough sets for the larger muscles. Move on to either bi's or tri's & the energy, intensity, drive doesn't match or isn't there. So...

ease up on the larger muscle training a bit?

cut back (from 9-12 sets) on the bi's tri's?

suck it up/tough it out and anihilate the bi's tri's anyway?

accept the intensity isn't going to be the same?

get the bi's pumped, the tri's on fire & leave it at that?

other?

Seems a lot of paired routines as above are as tough for the smaller muscles as the larger ones.

Gains are ok, some plateaus but not long term. Training usually 70-90min.
Thanks.

Exactly, so DON'T PAIR THEM. My answer: None of the above. Don't train bis with back and don't train tris with chest.

i never done back with bis, or chest with tris unless ur on a push/ pull routine. i think it puts too much stress on biceps and triceps, and it just over working it. i suggest u do bis n tris together and have chest n back on seperatre days. read to inform ur self and try doin a search on training splits

I agree with the guys above, put the big muscle groups on one day and the smaller ones together on a sperate day. Dont forge to put your rest days in there too. hope everything turns out OK with the split.

Man I am a supporter of the chest/bi day back/tri. I think it depends on what exercise you are doing I like to keep all my push and pulls together. Just seperate them because you really will be hitting secondary muscle on those days as well like if you bench press and do pullovers with the bi workouts the secondary is the tri so rest two or so days then do back/tri skull crushers, close grip bp and deads, bb rows work so many muscles it is crazy that is just me though holla at ya boy.

For me the push and pull routine works perfectly. So combining back with bi's and chest with tri's works for me. It all depends on how your body reacts to the routine. There is no golden rule in routines. It's all about trial and error, and keep inovating your routines.

I've always found I can get the most intensity from doing arms on its own day. I train chest and back early in teh week, then arms later in the week.

I've gotten the best reaction from my body, doing opposing muscles on the same day. Chest/Back monday, then bi/tri on thursday.
for me the over all pump is great pecs and lats flared on moday.... arms feelin like bursting on thursday.

Ive always looked at people in the gym who did workouts like back and bi's and chest and tri's and asked myself why they do that..not only is it over training cause it hits the same muscles, but your second workout will be weaker. Like Back and bi's, Back also uses your biceps, so wen u go to do biceps after, your not getting the full effect or training them as you should if you were starting fresh

Routine #6 on the animal site has chest and bi's together.

Animal routine 2 pairs chest, tri's and back bi's. Less sets though, so I'll cut back. I'm aware of the push pull routines pairing chest bi's & back tri's. Just was wondering, like another post said was "running out of gas" going from the larger muscle to the smaller. One small benefit in my case, haven't had the common inner elbow pain that can sometimes curtail bicep work. Back/bi's isn't wrong but I'll probably change to back/tri's down the road.
