I want to know what is the proper rest int between routines? It will be 13 weeks of training as of Jan. 7 2011, and 6 of those wks. was a builkng work out. Now I am going to start a 5/3/1 after this routine. What would be a good break time if it is even needed between the routines? Thanks

It all depends on the person. Do you feel you need a break? Are you feeling worn down/beat up? If so, then take a week break or so. If you feel fine, then run right into it.

Agreed. You may need a rest more than you think though. I never really feel like I need a break, i feel pretty good all the time. I went on vacation and took an entire week off. I came back yesterday and i feel awesome.

More than anything what's your body telling you? Is there anything that hurts more than some normal D.O.M.S? Joints aching? Low energy?
You have plenty of options. You could take the entire week off. You could drop the volume significantly and keep the weights close. You could do a deload similar to what you'll be doing in week 4 of 5/3/1/ where you keep the rep range the same but drop the weight significantly. I'm about to start my 2nd run of 5/3/1. This week I'm doing 40, 50 and 60% of my training weight as a deload before I ramp up the weights again next week. The choice is yours. All depends on what you feel you need.
Me personally? After I get done a phase (Cutting, Mass building, sport specific, etc) I take a week of active recovery (deloading) because that's what I've found I respond best to. At the end of Rugby season I've taken up to a week or two off completely (minus some very light cardio) because my body has been beat to shit from the previous 8-12 weeks. But again that comes from me trying and learning what has worked best for me and you may be completely different.

Personally, I have started an 8 weeks on, 1 week off routine. The 1 week off is usually a deload week, but if I am feeling really drained, then I just stay out of the weight room completely. Echoing what Aggression said, it really depends on the person and what works for you. Listen to and trust your body and you will always make the right decision.
