i think i see why brotherhood in powerlifting is troublesome now...there are too many lifters who have opinions or comments or bashing one another on lifts both in competition and in training... i've seen shit like this divide a community...and i hated it cause it did no good for the sport and it gave it a bad name. yea i've seen high squats passed and feather touch benches fly. its been happening for a long time and it won't change anytime soon i'm afraid. but because of that lifters become so obsessed with what someone else does on the platform. to me if it passes by the judges..its in the books. that's "partly" on the lifters cause more lifters should do lifts to standards so that it doesn't get left in the hands of judges. that's how MMA does it. whenever a fighter wins a fight by judges hands, its a flawed victory...that's how i see it when "questionable" lifts get passed in my book. that won't happen to me. that won't happen to many of you that compete in powerlifting here either. its a fact of life like lifting gear...its goin to happen. when i started competing in this sport it was about seeing some nasty and ridiculous lifts done in the toughest standards and the hunger for battle come competition day and gettin the shit in the books and the concept of brotherhood was gained in battle when your pushed to kill some weight even though your competition might do more... shit fires me up like it should everyone else. so if i see a high squat passed. yea it will piss me off and i will do it deeper and heavier. that's the mindset my former pl coach gave me years before. if i see a "feather" bench passed...then i will pause that fucker longer and with more weight. i'm done with bein obsessed with someone's lift and wondered if it was done to standards. it is what it is. all we can do is control what WE CAN CONTROL and what we can do is do it BETTER. period. this is why i don't post on flaming sites like plwatch or outlaw cause all they do bitch and whine...LETS DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SHIT we see in training and on the platform. that's how powerlifters in the 70s and 80s did it...they put that shit down like a hammer on the platform and u were respected because you were doin a sport no one has the balls to do and do the shit for real. that's what its about. questionable lifts WILL GET PASSED...just as questionable calls in any other will happen. DEAL. train your ass off to NOT LEAVE IT IN THE HANDS OF THE JUDGES. i can tell u from personal experience that it doesn't do shit but create negativity. i just get pissed to do it more in the next meet. when one of my training partners got a high squat passed and mine didn't even when it was done deep, i didn't bitch about it. i made a decision to do it deeper, without the call of the judges, and heavier and stronger. period. everyone was complaining about how i was robbed but i wasn't..i was focused on the "next one". its also the reason why i'm picky about my meets because i want a "fair" callin on lifts but regardless i'll do it to standards and i know a lot of you will as well... again...too much of personal baggage is bein brought to meets which is why the concept of brotherhood amongst powerlifters is a joke today to lifters. lifters in the 70s and 80s were all hungry...every last one of them. they accepted what was done on the platform and made a committment to be stronger than them the next time..but brotherhood was forged in battle in the process and lot of them look foward to competiting against them again too. that shit was awesome. you see this more with bodybuilding and strongman now today than with powerlifting which pisses me off but all i can do is DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT starting with this group. its ok opinions...everyone has them. but understand that YOU CAN ONLY DO YOU and you know you'll do it better and stronger. that's all. when the competiton see u do it better then they will change their shit up and do it better too. i love this sport and would love it to go BACK to where it should be...about the brotherhood. no this shit i see now...pussies and pansies whinning about this or that or why that wasn't passed..FUCK THAT ...LEAD BY STRENGTH...NOT BY THE ACTIONS OF OTHERS...nuff said...LETS SHUT UP AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

It's about time someone put this out on the table for all to see and all very well spoken. I too have seen this in not only meets but on various boards as well. The mentality that you mention has long been forgotten and to many people have fallen by the wayside into the nit picky bullshit. If people actually lifted as hard as they criticize then the world would be full of monsters.
keep the good shit coming bro....people need to see the reality of it all and put aside the petty bullshit. PLing is great and there is a common bond between those who PL. We just need to remember our grass roots from time to time

A very wise lesson I've learned. DO YOU! You can't control what they do, you can't control the weather, the stocks, the gas prices, whatever. The only thing you can control is you. The sooner we realize this and take that wasted energy on thinking and worrying about them and all the bullshit, the sooner we can overcome our own plateaus, mentally and physically.
In the end, the only thing you have control over is you -your thoughts, words, and deeds. I believe this then should be our primary focus because we only have so much energy at our disposal. Lead by example.

This is something I would LOVE to have hung up at the Y. Too many people, young and old, worrying about what other people are doing and saying and not enough of them putting in work. Sure, I may talk once my session is over, but rarely will you see mee chit chatting whilst in the middle of a workout. The other thing I have noticed, another guy at the Y and I talked about this last night, was the lack of respect and etiquette people bring to the gym. But, I guess you caould say that for alot of things these days. There doesn't seem to be much respect anymore. Where did it go......?
There doesn't seem to be much respect anymore. Where did it go......?
THE exact reason I took it out of the masses and built it up in the garage.. Was soooo sick and tired of
mf'ers walkin' around with permanent lat spreads, with even bigger egos'.. Where did the respect go ??
In an outside the box way of thinking (at least my own opinion) it sorta' went out the window about 20 years
ago or so with the rampant use of juice.. Guys all of a sudden started seeing and feeling changes that they
NEVER knew, giving them that invincible feeling.. I know, I was there, did it, done that, but at the same time
something else changed things, the general comradarie started dissapearing.. yeah weight lifting is a very
individual sport, but tell me, in this day and age how many people would you trust to give you a bona-fide
spot ??.. back in the day I could turn to almost anyone in the gym and know they weren't gonna be distracted
by some chick or a cell phone ringing off the hook, or both for that matter.. Nowadays it's much more pleasant
when I do bitch that the only person that hears me is me.. got the cage with the adjustable bars to make sure
nothing bad goes wrong when I lift, so really there's no reason to even think about frequenting public
establishments anymore.. When I read posts of guys that are fed up with geeks doin' 40lb. barbell curls in a
squat rack it really makes me appreciate that i'm not part of that scene anymore.. Yeah i'm old school when it
comes to training, and I plan to keep it like that til' my last breath, modern day gyms, bah!.. The only thing else
I might add is if your fed up with the bullshit at the public gyms, and you have the means and a way to do it at
home (be it garage, basement, spare room, whatever), then DO IT!.. Don't delay, the money you'll save is beyond
ridiculous, but dealing with dumbasses on a daily basis is definetly the frosting, plus you can crank those toonz
up as loud as you want and nobody is gonna say shit.. Yeah, my days of goin' to a gym outside the house are
looooong gone, no regrets whatsoever, and if I need motivation outside my own fire, just before I workout i'll
more than likely hit up..
