HOLY CRAP! The best damn UFC I have ever seen. 2 top dogs fighting their way back to a title fight to reclaim their belt and one man coming out of retirement to show you a 43 year old man should never be counted out or taken lightly!

Rich Franklin V. Jason Mac Donald

Rich Franklin dominated MacDonald as probably anticipated, but I don't think very many people thought it would be as big as it was. The man went in with a black eye and came out only with that same black eye! Huge respect for him. He took his loss to Anderson Silva, turned it into a lesson learned and came back with the good ole' ferocity we've all seen in the ring!

Matt Hughes V. Chris Lydel.

I gotta' hand it to Lydel for going ALL 3 rounds and trading strikes as well as ground moves with the man himself. I am not a big fan of Matt's but he has earned his title time and time again until he met GSP. I think he needed that to ground him again. Just my opinion but at any rate I have huge respect for his skills in the octagon....truly a warrior! I have to also give Lydel MASSIVE respect for going as far as he did and holding his own even when being dominated by such a fierce competitor. He showed he has excelled at an unbelievable rate since his time on TUF (the ultimate fighter series) and is definitely going to be a force to realize in the future with more ring time. I think had Chris pulled off a win it would be short lived as I don't believe he is top dog material quite yet, but look out Matt, you’ll be fighting him again.

Tim Silvia V. Randy "The Natural" Couture MAIN EVENT

As Joe Rogan put it, when an older competitor comes out of retirement to fight for the belt he usually never wins. Joe Rogan was left speechless tonight when Randy proved him wrong! Joe had also said Tim Silvia is the most underrated fighter in the UFC. Probably true but I think Joe overrated him as well. Randy came in with a game plan, did his homework and pulled it off! I know Randy didn't submit him or Knock him "completely" out but that opening leg kick to punch rocked Tim sending him flying backwards a feeling he may never have had. Randy had 6 take downs on the giant proving he has the skills to do it over and over again and again as Matt Hughes put it “Putting him in situations he is not comfortable with”. Also as Joe said, “You can count on your hands the times Tim landed punches on Randy”. The reflex and moves Randy had tonight were incredible in any ring and really showed how adaptive a fighter he is! The man exemplifies Animal and true Gladiator mentality! I can only hope to be in the shape Randy came in displaying and he truly inspires me!

JUST UNREAL! I was out of my seat all night and I am sure I could count tonight as a cardio night! LOL!!!!!!

You missed two other decent fights bro...

I don't think Franklin dominated MacDonald...now I may be biased because Jasons from Edmonton and lived close to my hometown when I lived in Nova Scotia. He was definitly the under dog coming in, he is a less then decent striker, but he proved his ground skills are as good as Franklins if not better. Watch for him in the future.

what do you guys feel about mirko crocop?

Mr.Totality

let me say this, first off congrats to Randy for the big win, but if and when he steps in against Cro Cop he is going to get KTFO. If anyone is unfamiliar with Pride fighters, which is where CC is from, you need to experience that. CC is a great striker, has great takedown defense. Glad to see big Timmy lose though. HE drove me crazy

Franklin owned. He made MacDonald ask to have the fight stopped.

Hughes looked as if though he was kind of holding back I believe he could have made that kid tap if he would have had a little more time.

Randy Coutore= Modern day Rocky. But I think Cro Cop is going to beast it up as a heavyweight... Theres just nothing that can stop his strikes and kicks.

I was disappointed Sylvia looked like he didn't even prepare or condition. I was expecting a little more combos from the big man.

Franklin used to be my teacher so I'm sure I am biased but I can tell you the man taught me how live my life and be an animal

Nothing personal against Randy or Silva, but I think their division is gone be dominated by Rampage Jackson and Mirko Cro Cop, I think it is just a matter of time before either of them takes the Championship... I favour Mirko cause he is just an amazing fighter, having fought in the K1 and Pride... he has incredible knockout power with his left roundhouse kick.

I don't know.. I thought it wasnt a good ufc..the card was shit..
UFC maybe has 3 decent cards a year...
Randy is in a tough spot now..facing CC next, and after that AA or Werdum...he didnt pick the best time to return

Edit: Rampage is LHW not HW ^^

Sylvia really showed he was nothing special last night. But chances are Mirko will fight him, or another front runner for the title like Arlovski. Mirko has had one fight in the UFC and does not deserve a title shot in his second fight.

What do you all think about Jeff Monson? 5'9 at about 240 or so, from some of the fights i've seen of him, he was just a straight beast. but, i think Cro Cop is gonna be nasty in the UFC, he'll be tough to beat.

the fight i remember best was when Rashad Evans i believe knocked Sean Salmon the fuck out w/ that kick early in the second round. if you haven't seen it check it out:

Monson would be a good matchup for a brawler like Rampage (to bad Jackson is 205), but Monson is a brawler...his careless bar fighting attitude would have him wip kicked in the face by Mirko, if he did get inside Mirko's kick/punch range, I still think he would be handled.

The best part about living in Cbus this year was going to Arnold all day and spending time at The Cage, then coming back to a keg of Microbrewed Hefelweizen and a bunch of friends, eating a ton of shredded chicken breast, and then watching the fight on PPV.

Personally I think it was one of if not the best PPVs Ive seen from the UFC. I felt the lineup was amazing and everyone fought hard.

Franklin totally dominated MacDonald and basically he begged for mercy. The main was amazing, to go through all the rounds was an excellent way to end an excellent night of fights. It was definitely lop-sided but I still got up today, watched it again on DVR and headed back to the Arnold.

Man, good to see all the UFC fans here!

Apologies Big Jawn for missing the 2 other fights that night. They were bad ass but I was short on time and sleep. I respect your opinion on MacDonald and think he is a very skilled fighter but I have to stand by my opinion but agree MacDonald is going to be around for quite some time to be sure.

I gotta' agree with the board here on Mirko but I will never count Randy out after proving he can adapt so well and I've seen enough upsets to know anyone can be submitted or knocked out wether it be a fluke or otherwise. It'll be cool to see the posts if Mirko loses. Could happen. Overall I felt like Mr. Totality in that Tim with due repect, bugged the crap out of me!

I have alot more repsect for the fighters who fight until the lights go out instead of tapping but I understand if it's that or have a broken limb as that affects their recovery time and eventually their paycheck.

I don't Randy failed to look ahead as he went in believing he was going to win so he had to know the line up. Wether he is prepared or just plain driven I don't know but I don't think he's short sighted.

Monson is a great brawler but he isn't the most flexible dude in the ring and proved he didn't have the skills or physical dimensions to ground and pound or submit Tim. You all gotta' admit having Tim's upper 3/4 of body weight lay on you for the amount of time he was on Randy would be damn near unbearable, my back would of popped in one of those ripple effects....hell, that was damn near an exclusive Tim Sylvia submission move! LOL!! I would of woken up with all the shit squeezed out of me like a tube of toothpaste and a flashlight in my eyes! LOL!!!!! How's that for record setting? First fighter to shit themselves in the octagon! LOL!!!

Awesome replies! This almost makes it worth the $40.00 PPV charge, freakn' sattelite MAFIA.

Umm CC is fighting Gonzaga @ UFC 70 and AA is fighting Werdum..Tim will prolly face Werdum next..and is gonna get subbed in 2nd round... The caliber of PRIDE fighters is so much higher than those of UFC fighters

Mr.Totality
03-05-07, 7:10 am
If Tim faces Wrdum he will get subbed quickly, as I think AA will also. No one in the HW division will stand a chance with CC. Word does have it though, that chuck will move up to HW after beating Rampage this summer.

I lucked out and was in the same hotel as alot of the UFC guys this past weekend. BOTH thursday and friday night J mac and tim sylvia were in the bar till at least 1 am or so. I also saw Randy busting his ass in a workout at 12:30 Thursday night. After seeing that the outcome of the fight was no surprise. Lydel did put up a good fight, everyone expected him to get his ass busted but showed he can hang. I gained alot of respect actually seeing those guys in person. They were getting hounded all weekend by people wanting photos and signatures-that shit must get old quick.

I was supposed to have tickets to that fight while I was at the Arnold but plans fell through. I heard it was a GREAT venue. Randy, I heard, looked phenomanal.
I heard when asked if he was gonna move up in weight class to fight Randy for the title, Mico Crocop said: "not at this time". He feels he wants to dominate in his weight class and then, when he's made an even BIGGER name for himself, he may up the weight so there will be a real fight to watch. What are you thoughts on this? Do you think it would be a good match up?

man i wish i had have gotten this one on PPV; too expensive though, and not a great last few events to be worth it. mad respect to Couture; def one of my favs. i had a feeling he would beat Silvia. it seems to me that the heavies were waiting for some strong competition, as the talent level has been pretty low for the last little while. i am not familiar with the fighters you guys mention from Pride, i will have to do some research.

I give Liddell credit, he has more guts than brains. CC and Fedor are on a different world then the rest of these guys. CC will own the UFC HW's as long as he wants to

I began training for MMA about two weeks ago. I have the utmost respect for everyone of them who's made it to that level. The dedication it takes to get there is unreal. The toll both mentally and physically is unbelievable even the "slouchs" of the UFC or Pride or any other MMA circuit are supreme athletes. I just started my journey towards that destination. Hopefully one day I'll be there.

He has lost several fights in the last few years, Hunt, CC, Hendo, and Arona all in the last 4 years I believe. I think he has hit the slide of age.
