What would be considered a good deadlift for my size, I'm 6'2 215, and what would be considered a great deadlift, I currently have 525 under my belt, no problem, no hitching, just got to tired to try again

I have respect for anyone who can pull 500+, bro. That's solid in my book.

Remember numbers are numbers, its the effort that counts, the dedication, sacrifice. If you had to go through that to work your way up to 500+ your a fucking man.

Anything above 500lb is a decent deadlift. It all depends on how much you're putting into it and if you're tapping into your full potential. What are your goals deadlift-wise?

My goal is a ridiculous 800 pounds, lol, I just learned to deadlift on march 6th, one week before Ohio high school state powerlifting finals, I only train it once a week, but I've gone up 70 in about a month, and thanks everyone, an another note, is that I'm was the only person at state over 450 that did it the right way, none of that sumo style crap for me, not bad for a junior in high school aye,

It is all relative! To put it into perspective...I am 6'3 and 247. My personal best is 465 and I have been training it longer than you have!!

So would you guys say that with some training that the big 8 0 0 might just happen, I have ten months, that's me goal next march

But....but....but....:-(

I jest....6'2, 215 with a best pull of 405 for 2. However, 18 months ago, it was around 315....its progress and I'm well on my way to 450 (pulled close to 400 from a deficit recently). Ultimate goal - 500+. Maybe at the end of this year? Maybe next year. It will happen! As someone said, its all relative, and I'm a happy camper!

You pulled a 405? You train in your bedroom? Dang I hope you controlled the negative!!

Like a ninja ;-) It does focus the mind NOT dropping the weight.....after all, when I get round to competing, I can't drop it then so why train that way?

I think a static number to cover EVERYBODY is unrealalistic, biased and excludes guys who train hard but can't break through some arbitrary glass ceiling number...

I think realistically speaking 2+x ones body weight for a single rep is a "Good" deadlift...

of which I have not yet attained at my current weight of 200lbs...my closest is 385.

What he said. Seeing 100lb ladies deadlifting 225 is far more impressive than a 300lb bloke pulling 500... I mean, isn't it Brian Schwab who deadlifts something stupid like 5 times his own bodyweight? He's like an ant!!!

What's a good way to train for this tho, right now I'm doing 5 sets of 3, once a week

Man 500lbs at your age is very impressive, respect on that one.

Few points though. Get your hands on some Animal Flex, yeah youre young now and bounce back like a slinky but dude , take care oif what ya got as best you can for as long as you can. Second, get your hands on a good belt, once again for protection.

Take a look at the " Ask The Animals ' section under "Training". Higa Monster will definantly have many words of wisdom to get you where ya wanna go.

It can only go up from here bro.

Of course the issue now is that 405 is about 30 pounds more than my bar is meant to hold....the plan is now to strap the weights to the bar inside the collars but outside the hands to spread the load of the extra 30-50lb evenly!

For the 220 weight class, the biggest DL ever is 901. A 735 will put u in the top 100 All time best pulls for that class. A 525 will prolly get u on the top 100 list for the current year, 600+ will put u in the top half of this years list

That's pretty safe to say, I agree with you. I have personally pulled 505 before and I am not a competitive powerlifter, though someday I want to be. I've never seen anyone in the local gyms I've trained at pull over 600 so that would impress me too.

That's a technical answer there from a guy who knows what he's talking about. If you can be in the top 100 All time for a certain lift that is something special.

mhm, ive done 500 last year a month after my 19th bday. its not special. i think of the old standard of 300 bench, 400 squat and 500 deadlift for a raw, natural lifter. those numbers put you at intermediate....how is that impressive?

add another 100lbs to those lifts, and people will start watching you

I know it's all relative, but something like 95% of the general population can't bench their own bodyweight, and 99% can't do 1.5 times their weight. If you weigh 200 and bench 300 you are in the top 1% of the population. And when talking about the general population, my gym has many, many members and hardly any of them even do the big 3. I rarely see someone with a total of 1200 raw (like u said a 300 b, 400 s and 500 d) so anything OVER that is impressive. You are right on with 600. Some people can not workout for long periods of time and come back benching 225, and squatting and deadlifting over 315 the first day back. Not many people can deadlift 600 without atleast several years of dedicated, focused, intense training.

That's a very good point made there.....we are already in the top 5% of the population for strength and most of us are above and beyond that. If I could get a 1200 raw total, I'd be fucking ecstatic!! :-D Having said that, 1000 is within my reach pretty soon I feel.....

As the line says in FMJ 'We are jolly green giants walking the earth....with GUNZ' :-)

to me a good deadlift is 2.5x BW, excellent is 3x BW in my opinion
