good stuff bro, glad to see everything is alright with you. yeah, i am preparing for the NABBA Wales, currently 11 weeks out..
do you know there is a UKBFF show at the BodyPower Expo as well? Why dont you compete in it since you will be in shape
already? i am quite tempted to do it as well seeing that the show is one week after NABBA Wales..

Maybe you and i could do that show together!

That's not a bad shout, the only thing is it would mean hitting 3 competitions 3 weekends in a row. I'd rather relax that 3rd weekend & enjoy the ABC & Expo.

As a compromise, I'll hit a most muscular shot with you at Temple if Wrath can't make it. Or, if he can, make it a group activity.

Are you on contest prep now then? I personally work off a 10 week prep cos athletics keeps me lean year-round.

Hey Frank, wondering how often you train your forearms, and what your main exercises are?

Or maybe you don't train them and its genetics? Mine are lagging behind so I'm starting to train them twice a week because I ignored them all together for a long time. I'm wondering if you had any reccomendations? It's a small muscle group so I wouldn't wanna overtrain them.

I was never known for having the best back so last year i made it a point to really bring it up and if its not big enough just have it ripped to fucking ripped to the fuckin bone! just did alot of chins, bent rows, t-bar, and alot of machines different hammer strenght. And seated rows using a few different grips. its all about that mind muscle contection.

I dont really train them that much any more, but once in a while i will through them in. I think they got alot of work just by training other body parts. But if there are lagging as you say hitting them twice a week is fine. Some wrist curls, reverse wrist curls should be enough to get them growing!

Mcgraw, can you give us some insight as to what you were eating when you came back from your injury after you dropped so much weight, obviously your body's muscle memory factors in but were you trying to keep everything clean or just pound as much food as possible to get back to your normal weight? (cant wait to one day say normal weight when talking about weighing 265+)

Frank,
I am a college student right now. Although I get really good grades and is in a difficult major (BioMedical Engineering), I have a passion that exceeds all, which is going to the gym working harder than I can imagine then eating to the best of my ability and get the sleep that I can get. I feel that school is restricting my bodybuilding potential. I would love to hear your advice.

I have been very luck Universal has had my back for a while. And also now flex mag putting my full time in to my career as a bodybuilder. As alot of other guys I personal train. And I have a few other investments that I work on. Bodybuilding is my passion, but I have learned I have to make a business side of it too. It really doesn't change that much. Eat alot of rice, steak, chicken, egg. Contest time carbs maybe a little lower. Offseason I add bagels, pancakes, burgers, alot of sushi. Couple times a week I will do a big cheat meal, like I said sushi, burgers, pasta. But the diet stays pretty much the same the rest of then time.

I was 230 at my first show 22 years old and won the show. Only 6 people on the whole show lol. But was hooked loved to see the changes in my body. And when I walked on stage people going crazy. And winning, no better feeling knowing all that hard work paid off.

Hi Frank, can you please tell me some tips to get my forearms bigger?

Its like not only the part near the elbow, also the parts near the wrists and if possible wrist size also.

Don't know if i was explicit enough :/

So if you can, i appreciate :)

Keep up the good work

Well first you domt want your srist to be bigger, it will make the rest look smaller. there is wrist curls, reverse wrist curls and hammer curls are great as well. i also like a straight bar behind your back and do wrist curls .

Came in to ask if anyone had pictures of the Toronto Pro. Congrats on 4th!

Want I want to know is will you be part of the Road Trip in Jersey when July comes around? I know it's an Universal thing but Universal Rep said there might be a few guest appearances, I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it to every gym and attraction that they go to but I would try my very best to make it to the one that you and hopefully Fankhouser go to. You 2 are my top 5 bodybuilders and I would really like to meet you guys before I ship out to basic training at the end of summer.

PS: I'm Brazilian but not AS CRAZY as the ones that you met down in Rio this year at the Arnold lol.

Sounds good to me! Show us how an Animal trains, I also find videos about diet and nutrition very helpful - gives us an idea of what to eat, and when to eat. Both contest and offseason

Hey Wrath,

I have a question mainly in need of some advice. I work out and diet for fun not really for shows. I have always been on the bigger size (higher BF) then your average guy. My question is do you count calories and macros in the offseason and contest prep? How does it vary between the two? What do you do to get the final details in the week of and week prior?

I'd like to know some exercises that have really worked for you when it comes to calves mass growing. I train my legs/calves at least once a week. In addition, I usually play basketball once or twice a week and just incorporated about 2-3 days of short runs per week (3-4 miles runs) just to add some cardio. I played basketball during high school (5-6 years) and have always been very active. I think that is the reason why I feel like I am pretty strong when it comes to lifting (on leg day), but I just can't get my calves to grow to match the rest of my body. Right now, most people are able to tell that I work out , even if it’s the first time they see me (which is nice), but they also ask me very often why I am not working on my legs. That is the worst part because I do work my ass off on leg day. So basically, I am able to lift decent weight and also keep good form throughout the different sets, but I just do not see any growth. I am currently considering going big and doing legs/calves three times a week for at least two or three months just to see if that would make a difference. My only concern here is overtrainning. All in all, I know that to grow any muscle in the body one has to work really hard and be consistent (Which I have for about 5 years by now), but if you can provide any tips (training, nutrition, specific exercises, etc) that might help me out with my calves that would be great.

Thanks!

I have never counted cals offseason of contest just Make sure I had ablest 50g of protein 50-75g carbs and some fats per meal. Not much changes last week maybe lower carbs a little but not much. Lower sodium, and lower water few days before show that's about it and carb up couple days out I like to use a lot of white potato and steak mostly

Well first if ur doing all that maybe u need to up the cals a lot to make sure ur growing. I'm not saying u shouldn't run or play ball because I used to do both bit Maybe cut back
They r not the best for leg size. But I still like to play ball once in a while. But for the most part I think it's just ur diet holding u back. I have to eat a lot to grow and sounds like ur very active and maybe burning to many cals

Thank for the kind words man. I actually had a question, basically i'm trying to get bigger(aren't we all). My diet is pretty clean i eat 5 whole food meals a day. totaling up to 3200 calories a day. i weigh 169lbs and i normally shoot for 1 gram of protein per lb of bodyweight( i average about 210 grams regularly). Recently talking with some of the more experienced guys at my gyms they recommended going up to 2 grams per lb( so 340 grams). to do this i would add two shakes.(75 grams and 50 gram) My question is what do you think? Is all that protein necessary?

Do you have any idea how to work around this? I ask because I know you went through a tricep injury and maybe had some ideas how to do with your dealt. Thanks Frank!

Thanks man I'm about 265 right now working my way to 275

As for your elbow if it hurts don't do it. And it it checked out, some massage ( active release therapy) there are alit of other exercises you can do. Also warm up your elbows a lot high reps and slowly up the weight

I don't think it will mess with your pressing

Hey frank, just a simple question you have probably answered before here, but I am wanting to bring my forearms up a bit more. I feel like they are underdeveloped to a point.

I currently do reverse curls either bb or cable for isolation, along with cross body hammers, but i feel that something is still missing from the equation. I try to go strapless most of the time, except my heaviest sets when grip gives before the back.

You believe it more genetic than anything?

Yeah genetics does play a large role, bit doesn't mean you can't have great forearms. Some guys will just have to work harder. And make sure there diet is on point. Seems like your on he right track Try some wrist curls and reverse wrist curls. Worked great for me maybe try doing them twice a week as well. Take pics. And measure then to track your progress. Let me know how it works out for you

Hey Wrath, Thanks for taking this question.
I've gained nearly unlimited access to a great pullup area; for wide, narrow, neutral grip and dead hang pullups, chins without having to bend my knees. Only option not available later on would be a dip belt for extra weight. After a few years off from lifting, I can crank out about five neutral pullups and same for chins. Regular pullups still at the dead hang stage.

The only other back lift I want to work on is the deadlift once a week; once in a while throw in some rack deads.

My question is; ok to take advantage of this pullup set up 4-5 days a week; right now just for a few minutes, reps til I can really start cranking them out - 10+ rep range. I can see not doing them the day before DL's. I'm really stoked about getting this going and also have to time to rest enough between whatever # of sets. Thanks.

Wrath first of all man I just want to say what an inspiration you are. I keep watching your videos over and over and just gives so much motivation. I am have only been in the Iron game now for just less than 6 months. When I first started lifting I wanted nothing more than to move some heavy ass weight LOL. I am 31 years old 5'11, 235lbs and about or a little over 25% bf. Now sitting back thinking about things I would like to move things to improve myself aesthetically because I have 2 kids and just want to be as healthy as I can for them. I would like to cut some fat and pack on some good quality muscle. I wasn't sure but first I wanted to gain some muscle because I felt it would help me lose the fat better once I put on some more muscle. Do you think at this stage of my lifting would it be better for a more typical BB split routine or Upper/Lower splits? I can only train Mon-Fri and get to the gym at 5a so I can workout before I go to work. Due to lack of funds I currently cant afford supps so my diet once I can get it figured out will be whole food. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Your thoughts on when a guy can tell/know if he truly is deserving or in need of a cheat meal while dieting? And obviously, you didn't hold back on any calories with your cheat. Would you say that if a dude is gonna get down, that all bets are off for that one meal?

Thanks man, enjoyin the videos.

Personally, I find the cheat meal videos offensive.

A man of your stature eating such empty calories with no regard for the message it sends to the fitness community is downright irresponsible. How will you ever build a physique you can be proud of?

It shows a lack of discipline, good taste, basic common sense and literally no concern for your overall health.

Pizza... Cake... Disgusting. Have you no shame?

I'm sorry I offended u. Cheat meal play an important role in building a champ like physique.

I do recall and deep dish Chicago pizza, cookies, taste cakes and other forms of tasty goodness shared between G diesel and Raw McGraw numerous times if I'm not mistaken.

And I remember a lot of shame and regret after words and how that last bite of goodness turned these to fine men into fat discussing blobs. If my memory serves me right

Thanks Wrath. Been reading your Back articles such as "Back to the Future, Vol 1" & the others. To clarify, not chinups, pullups. After a long layoff, I'm back at square one on these; meaning a dead hang and working from there to "a" pullup and then multiple pullups. I can crank out some palms facing pulllups and chins. Guess I'm asking if say 10-15 minutes of pullup work 4 days a week (forget about 5 days) would be more productive starting out vs a longer period one day /week? Once I can get a good 10 pullup reps, I'd then stick with once a week. Thanks. Sending you a short pm.

Forearm training is important. I think u need to train the whole body. Great having a big arm but with small forearms kinda makes it look funny, so I train everything

Over training, well I think it's great to take days off if ur training really hard the body needs it. But I know people that train every day . But may not go so hard so they don't need as much rest

Hey Frank, For someone who wants to start competing in bodybuilding, and has at least 3 years of training experience already but does not have a the size he wants..do you think one should go ahead and start dieting and competing in many amateur shows to get started..or do you think one should wait to attain a physique that he is proud to present before he enters his first show? as in just keep on training and growing to gain as much lean muscle as possible..before the competition? I don't think there is one person who started competing. And was totally happy with how they looked and did not want to improve and get more size. That will come in time but we all try to improve no matter how many shows we do, even me Olympia so if u want to compete I would say go for it. Then see what u need to work on. Just because we are not perfect doesn't mean we can't still be competitive

I really feel my purpose was to help others. If me getting over my bullshit problems can help even one person then I'm doing something right. And in not doing it for any one I'm just doing what I love. They told me if I didn't go back to the gym I could sue for so much more money and be set for life but then I would never of done the Olympia been on the cover of a huge magazine, of motivated others but not giving in when I was at my worst. No money is worth all that.

Damn, Frank. Didn't know that part. Mad respect to you. You're my favorite pro and I'm rooting for you to make 2015 your best yet. Your purpose on this earth is greater than just bodybuilding. You were born with a magnetic personality and a big heart. That's why you're loved by so many.

Greetings from Michigan.

Shit looks I arrived late. Where is my man?

Hi!
Man when I saw you back on the stage, it picked my ass up after a 5-6 years of bullshit and fucking life. I don't think I'll ever get the physic that I want and if I don't I'll end my life up. Is there any training system or any other shits to make my bones a bit bigger? In past years which I was a shit (After my hard injury I did everything that could destroy my body) I lost some of my bone mass. I had a medium to big wrist and now It's a tiny shit. I started bodybuilding at 8 so it's my life I don't want to be limited by these shits. Many friends told me to go for physic, fitness and ... but I hate them all. I want a FREAKY PHYSIC or death. Do you have any idea?

Hey Frank, For someone who wants to start competing in bodybuilding, and has at least 3 years of training experience already but does not have a the size he wants..do you think one should go ahead and start dieting and competing in many amateur shows to get started..or do you think one should wait to attain a physique that he is proud to present before he enters his first show? as in just keep on training and growing to gain as much lean muscle as possible..before the competition? Love to hear your opinion on this..thanks.

Hey brother I just wanted to chime in with my two cents. I was asking the exact same question just a year ago. I had several years of weight training under my belt and had been wanting to compete but I just felt I lacked enough size. I spoke with someone much more experienced than me who would go on to train me for my first show. His response to my question was to go for it. Like Frank said, you're always going to be wanting to improve. That's what this sport is all about, recognizing what needs to improve and then doing what you must do to make those improvements happen. So I say to you find someone whos experienced in competing, someone who can guide you through the process. And do it! Once you get that first show under your belt, youre gonna be hooked. I hope you go through with it. And if you do, let me know if you start a journey log. I'll be along for the ride.

So, I see this thread hasn't been hit for a year, and I might be IG to not know you have started another thread, but...I feel like you are my bigger brother that I never had. I train just like you, feeling out the workout every time I go in. I just got started back up after a 6 month unwanted hibernation, and I am sticking to a routine for now to wake the body up again, but after watching your vids, it reminded me just how different I really am. I love it. The drive and ambition to look different and turn heads. You are that inspiration that gets me on this forum and site just to read up on what you are doing next. I must train harder, focus on the flex and stretch, like you. I hope one day to get to meet you and lift with you. I will be training harder to become a freak like you. Keep it going Wrath, I will follow.

Late,

Been a while since I have been on the forum, but I'm back! Little update for you guys. Had a rough year last year. Got pretty sick and lost about 30 pounds. Things that were out of my control. But things are getting back to normal. I have gained about 20 pounds back and making plans for this year. Set backs don't define us, how we react does. This shit happens to the best of us. Don't let it stop you from being where you want to be in life. You just got to fight back even harder.

I will do my best to keep you guys update on things with me. But I wanna hear form you guys. What are you going though or any questions you have. I will do my best to help you though what your going though.

Glad to see you back Frank. I saw recently that you started a youtube channel. Plans on releasing your own content?

Also, what was your diet like to gain the weight back?
