Fucking pumped to finally, after long last, welcome one of Animal's icons to the FORVM... Ladies and gents, Frank "Wrath" McGrath is now in the building.

After The Journey (http://animalpak.com/journey/) and becoming something of a bodybuilding cult figure, my boy Raw McGraw has been through hell and back, rising from the ashes and getting ready to again take the stage and reclaim his rightful spot in the sport.

He's one of the funniest most laid back characters I know and also one of the hardest training, bodybuilding junkies I've ever met. I've learned from the dude, been inspired by the dude, trained to the edge with the dude and laughed until I cried with the dude. And this is your chance to do the same.

So much more to be said, so better I let Wrath say it for himself.

If you have any questions, comments, stories or feedback, feel free to fire away. I'll be sure to hang out here too, as I know this will be a place of much activity and many good times.

Enough of my bullshit... This thread is dedicated to the man himself...

Peace, G

Hey Wrath,I know your gonna get bombarded with forearm questions,as you have the sickest yarned-up meathooks ive ever seen. But I need your opinion on forearm training.
Do you believe that you can overtrain a heavy use bodypart like forearms and calves?Ive been adding decent size and vascularity training forearms 2-3 times a week.Am I heading for disaster?
Second, whats your opinion on those hand grips that you squeeze for grip strength.Hype or real deal?

Best of luck to ya through the rest of the prep, bro. With just a few weeks left, how much cardio are you doing at this point? 30min? 60min? Dub-sessions?

Yo Wrath, hows the training look like for you? You prefer high volume, low volume? Oh and whats your bread and butter movements for your chest and delts?

thx big man

For my lagging body parts I do a lot of volume, for chest and arms which are my stronger body parts I don't train them a lot. For chest I'd say incline barbell and sometimes I throw in some drop sets when doing incline...for example....315 x 10, 225 x 10, 135 x 10. For delts, I like Smith machine press and dumbell side laterrals, two movements I pretty much do every shoulder workout.

I can't say its just one for me...but I do like chin up's. I find a lot of people don't do chin up's these days. Guy's will say they're too heavy to do chin up's and stick pull down's, don't get me wrong pull down's are good but I like to do chin's even when I'm heavy- I like to keep them in my routine even in the off season.

Doing my best to answer all you guys, sorry if i miss a few. It means alot to here i motivate people to get there ass in the gym... just makes me want to work harder to keep motivating. There is nothing easy about getting ur ass in the gym day in and day out, eat your face off, and doing it every day, even when you tired, sore or dont even want to... but we do it because we love this shit... people ask me why i do it or is it worth it..... i do it because i cant, and is it worth it? just that feeling in the gym is worth it, if you work out and give it everything you got every day you would know!

Just wanted to say thanks for inspiring me. Youre journey was the single most motivating factor in me wanting to better myself through bodybuilding and weight training. By better understanding who we are we are more capable of becoming better individuals. You're journey helped me to realize that. We all have a purpose in this world and a reason for being here. Thank Thank you for helping me realize mine. You're sacrifices and accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. You're road back should become stuff of legends. Wrath..

I just got done reading your journey... well the one online at least... I know there's a book too... I will be buying this as well...

Reading what you put up with (big red and his partner, bullies, naysayers, etc) I'm with you on these... I didn't grow up exactly the same way but I've had my fair share of being the fat kid and picked on...

Back to the point... After reading all of that... you are now my inspiration to show the world what I'm capable of... One day when you step out on that stage... I'll be there... I'll be that new gun and it will be a honor just to shake your hand.

Book no longer available. It's now a collectible....

However... You could print up the pages on here:

The Journey Book was essentially the entire ad campaign, plus the extra online entries in a wire-bound printed form... It was sweet.

Peace, G

i wish wrath all the best.he has the support of fellow iron warriors all over the world for sure major inspirational bodybuilder i have read his journey and i get hooked to reading it every single time. you can learn alot about what builds champions and the hardcore lifestyle of an iron warrior with true strength.everytime i tell myself i will only read one blog i end up reading 10 times more.remember persist and persevere.

First question - How do I get veins like that?

Somebody asked me that same question at a bodybuilding show one time. I was just there to watch and he was competing but not in shape. I told the only way he was gonna get veins by the time he got on stage was to find a sharpie and draw them on. haha

This was a long road back, when many said i was done, my fans stuck it out with me, had my back the whole time. Means alot to mean, and part of this is for you, and the doctors who said i would never lift again. I like to prove people wrong.

Big thanks to Evan, and my boy Greg, made me step my game up, when things where getting tough.

So glad to see this thread, but bummed that I JUST found it... I MUST have been living under a rock....lol

Frank, after talking with you at the Cage, it helped me to realize that anything is possible when and if YOU make it happen. I know that there are days that we (as a whole) gripe, moan, and groan at our aches, pains, and tiredness, but at least we have the opportunity TO do it. I value the "life lessons" that I picked up from our conversation and now appreciate every single day as it comes. Thanks for the eye opener to the opportunities around me, even if it is just getting out of bed in the morning OR getting to eat a good meal...

So excited to know that you'll be back on stage and can't wait to hear how things go this weekend.... Best of luck Frank...

Ive been lazy for the last 4 years, got married, had a kid, and got fat and lazy. I finally took a good look in the mirror and decided to wake up and quit gliding through life and make some changes, to achieve things I used to think of as standard and would never go away. At the moment I'm 6'2 weight 280 and have about 40 lbs to lose to get lean again. My main goal is to lose the fat covering the bulk I have kept over 4 years, suppose thats genetics to thank. Also, it will be easier to build a workout when I can actually see what parts of the muscles have slipped.

Heres the split I'm thinking about, I'm separating Bi's and Tri's, dunno if thats advised or not but ive 6 days a week and I want to use them.
AM's Mon-Chest Tue-Back Wed-shoulders Thur-Legs Fri-Tri's Sat-Bi's
PM's Cardio done daily for 300-400 calories

Diet is 3083 cals comin 24, 40, 36 percent from fat, carb, prot respectively comes out to about 280 g protien, about 1g per pound of total body weight(including fat mass).
Meal 1- 4 egg whites and 1/2c oatmeal with banana, animal Pak(also my Preworkout meal)
Pre W/o shock therapy, with 5g glutamine
Intra w/o Scivatioin Xtend(fits my budget better, trying to convince wife to up it but no luck as of yet)
Post w/o Storm and 5g glutamine- 30 min later 3 scoops Real Gains with 8oz skim milk
Meal 2- 10oz chicken and large salad
Meal 3- 4oz Talapia and 16oz mixed veg
Around 6pm, I take 3 more scoops of Real Gains in 8oz skim milk, cardio comes after classes around 8 or in the afternoon aorund 4
Pre Sleep- 1 scoop Ultra Whey Pro in 8oz skim milk

Plan on taking Animul Cuts until i get to the BF I want then switching to M-Stak, Any advice you could give would be greatly appriciated. I intend to do high volume for sets of 12-15 for a few weeks while my ligaments and muscles get accustomed to lifting again, then dropping to 8-10, possibly doing 6's on my last set, which should be my 5th, in my past ive always got great results from very high volume training. Should i wait to go very high on volume till im done losing weight? Or if im recovering enough should i go ahead and pump up the volume? My supps are pretty fixed as far as money I can spend. Looking at losing about 2lbs a week, should I see how it goes then drop more fat and carbs if necessary? Thanks again for everyones help now, and in the past, I plan on getting back into things, and that includes this Forum.

Sorry, by the time i figured out everything I seem to be unable to edit my post, so I'll ad my workout here. Plan on doing 2 sets of each for 12-15 until about 2 weeks in, then going to 3 sets, then 4 sets a month in, then dropping reps to 8-10, maybee some sixes on the last set, and after a few months going to 5 sets for compounds.

Monday- AM Bench, Incline DB, Decline DB, Incline Cable Press, Decline Cable Press, Low Cable Fly, then finishing with Straight Arm DB pullovers and Dips.
PM Cardio

Tuesday AM-15 pullups(only doing 2 at a time at the moment), Bent over BB row, Deadlift, Close grip high hammer row, close grip mid hammer row, DB shrugs, Lying incline DB shrugs, Back hyperextensions.
PM Cardio, Wrist Curls ad Ulnar wrist deviations

Wednesday AM-Military Press, Upright Row, Seated rear lateral raises, Seated rear rev fly, seated lateral raises, lying incline lateral raises(good stretch in shoulders), Front lateral raises.
PM Cardio, Rev Wrist curls, Radial wrist deviations.

Thursday AM-Squats(doing 4 sets to start going up to 7 by the end), Hip sled, leg ext, lying leg curl, Romanian deadlift, standing calf raise, seated calf raise.
PM Cardio(lighter session), Cable hip adductors and abductors, glute cable kickbacks, rev calf raises.

Working on finding an arm blaster for arm days, anyone know a good place to get one?
Friday AM-Close grip bench, dips, skull crushers, kickbacks, overhead BB tri ext, rev cable pressdown, cable pressdown with rope to finish everything off.
PM-Cardio(lighter session depending on how legs feel)

Saturday AM-BB curl, Seated Alternating DB supinating curl, Rev Preacher Cable curl, Hammer curl, Concentration curl, wrist pronation, wrist supination
PM-Cardio

During the day, except sunday, doing a total of 25 pushups to start with, ab work, Pullups or hangs, Neck flexion and extensions. This is similar to what I did in afghanstan, my body seemed to respond extremely well to very high volume, set PR's across the board. Using storm, shock therapy, Stack, Cuts, and lots of real gains. Lost about 8% BF, added 6 inches to my chest(up to a 59), 2 1/2 on my arms, got to 19 3/4, was so close haha, calves went to 19's, thighs up to 29's if i remember right, and got back into my size 34 pants, loved the way i looked and want it back haha. In the stan i even went up to about 70 sets on leg days during my last 3 months, was insane ad could barely walk, but we were loading off of missions so i figured i would kick it up, got the idea from a Cutler workout i saw, nightmarish workout. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, like, if i should wait to kick the volume way up until im done restricting calories, or if i should just roll with it so long as progress is being made, Thanks yall

Wrath when you are cutting and you cut your carbs down to slim to none do you eat vegetables with your last few meals or just eat meat only. Lets say that your low carb day called for 50g carbs. That is about 1 cup of oats and if you eat that one cup of oats one time at breakfast you have none for the rest of the day. So therefore do you eat just meat the rest of the day or do you eat vegetables with the remaner of the meals?

Wrath! How's the O prep going? Think you can leak some pics or video to the Animal community or is it gonna be a surprise for the stage?

Thanks for the bday wishes. I'm balls deep in training for the Olympia. Things are going great. Smashing the weight like its no ones business. Killing it on stair master every morning, I want to be in better condition the last 2 shows. There is no secret. Just hard work had after day. Doing everything in my power to be the best I can be. The journey never ends!

Awesome bro and happy birthday

Not to hijack the thread or anything, and I realize I'm a couple months late, but.... I just ordered a Journey book along w/ some supps from a certain website... I don't want to advertise on here but go ahead and PM me if you want the info. Granted I haven't gotten it yet, but there were some other things that I wanted that said "not available at this time" and the book wasn't one of them... we'll see I guess.

Hey frank, I 've been following you since my first bodybuilding competition since I was 17 years old.
I'm 20 right now and my goal is to go pro. I have 2 shows that I will be competing in next year, however, since last month I have been plagued with some injury that has been keeping me out of the gym. We're still running tests to figure out what the problem is, but there's a good chance that it is very serious.
I know you recently went through an accident as well, and came back stronger than ever (congrats on the O qualification!), I was wondering if you could shed some wisdom on what you did to help you get through that rough time..

Thanks Frank

Hey Frank, just gonna start by saying happy belated birthday and well done at the Olympia, great to see my favourite bodybuilder on that stage, caught the coverage online over here! Looked great bro! What are your plans next?
Quick question - have you ever had skin problems over the years? If you did how did you manage to keep it clear, if not how did other top competitiors you know look after it? Just one of my only problems at the moment with all the food and supplements I take, could be just natural hormone levels adjusting too since I'm only 20. Any feedback would be great. Aside from that what are the basics you always stick by for training, diet and recovery?

And just before you go - ever been over here to Ireland, just visiting or guest posing?

Thanks,

All the best,

David O' Donoghue

I have never really had any skin problems. Nothing major. Every one gets pimps and shit. Some more then others. Your young so it could just be your hormones. If it is bad. I would just see your doctor and they can refer you to a Specialists.

hey Frank
First of all to say you are a great insipration and my fav bodybuilder.
Now to question....what do you think about milk for bulking? Milk I bough was 2 % fat and they are some up to 9 % fat so you think it's good for bulking or not?

Good luck in future life and training and keep pumping iron bro.

If any one knows me well they know I love milk! And I drink a lot of it in the offseason. I think its great for bulking. But I just love the taste, with a box of cookies. G knows what I'm talking about!!!

Just stick with the basics. Steak, chicken , fish, turkey. And rice, potatoes pasta oatmeal. And mix it up. And I make room for a few cheat meals. Buger fries. Etc

Contest time no milk

Cutting phase I have no problem stuffing down tuna with sweet potatoes, not even a problem with eating 6 cups of broccoli a day, or waking up at 6 to do cardio on empty stomach. But man no being able to drink milk when cutting for me is Torture! I absolutely love whole milk, Offseason I get in close to a gallon a day.

sadly i will not be able to attend with college and all, I was hoping it would be at all possible if you ever get a chance to mail something signed? I'd pay for postage if you want, and It doesn't need to be right away, just whenever you get a chance, i'd kill to go to the Arnold but sadly cannot.

I get asked alot about forearm training, i didnt alot of it when i was younger. At one point i had them at 18 inchs, and start to make my arms look small so stopped training them they maybe around 17.5 now or so. i may hit them once in a while for the sake of it. All I ever did for them was wrist curls on my knees rolling the bar right down to my finger tips, reverse wrist curls as well.

Wrath, I think like anyone, genetics play a huge role in anyones body parts. Like House with calves! Like your forearms and your vascularity! I have added a forearm day on one of my off days where I hit up about 12 sets of various exercises and they have responded amazingly. People are commenting on them now like they always have about my arm size. Just throwing my .02 out there!

thats true! Genetics play a role in how body parts develop. But they have to be trained to see there true potential. Great to see your getting great results. I always wanted huge foreams, now i see house and i want huge calfs!!!

Hey man, yeah I'm good. Contest prep for the UKBFF North West Champs begins in 2 days, so looking forward to that.

Looking forward to the Bodypower Expo, it's 2 weeks after my show & 1 week after the Athletics County Championships where I'm doing the 100m & possibly 200m, so I'll be very much in 2 different forms of contest shape when I see you bro.

How's things your end??

do you know there is a UKBFF show at the BodyPower Expo as well? Why dont you compete in it since you will be in shape

Maybe you and i could do that show together!
