How old were you when you first started to train with iron? And what age when you actually made it serious?

My pops brought me to the gym when i was 13, and i hated it. I got to HS and it was on and off, i started getting more serious when i was going with my brother around 17, and then when i went to college at 18, I was 100% in. 5-6 days a week, and i have been there ever since.

I started at 12. Powerlift 15. Stopped at 17. Did not return till I was 24. World Record at 29. I am serious, did not take it serious till I was 31 or 32. It took a bunch of lifters and a meet promoter telling me that I could not lift something without drugs to kick my butt into gear. Now I just want to be the best.

8, no joke. I had to because I was born with pectus excavatum, which means I had a caved in chest. The doctors said if I started to lift weights that it would come out. When I was born, my dad could put his whole hand in my chest and now its not that noticeable so I guess it worked. Started serious at about 19.

Probably started around 13, but didnt really get serious till a couple years after, training for football. That being said even though i was lifting 4 days a week i really didnt get into the lifestyle till i was about 18.... i still remember the sense of accomplishment when i got to write my name on the "150 club" for bench at my high school. damn that was a long time ago

I started when I was around 16, didn't know what I was doing and never trained legs. I was the smallest guy in the gym too around a buck 35.

Got more serious when I was 21 or so.......then very serious with how I ate, gave up drinking when I was around 24-25. Other than my career, it became my main focal point around that age and still is today.

Don't feel bad. I still barely train legs, but I am trying to change that again.

My dad bought me a weider bench and concrete weights at 13. It did not get alot of use and eventually he sold it. I was a runner in HS so I never did any weights. Lighter is faster. Came in the military and after about a year of partying and running the streets in my off time, I decided it was time to stop being skinny. Lifted for 14 months and entered my first show in Scotland, placed 2nd, then entered one when I got back to the states and won my class and overall. Been lifting ever since, 22 years now.

Started around 12 playing football. Use to drag 3 or 4 people at a time, it was awesome. Took a whole lot of time off cause of a football injury and didn't get serious about it all until about 26 or 27.

Serious one year later. It took me many years to get serious. I always loved to lift, but back in the days I loved the nightlife to. I am very happy to say I am out of the nightlife now. I hate when I miss training. I have very big goals in my lifting now. What are your goals? Do you have a time set for them? I want to be the greatest bencher ever and do it drug-free. After that I want to drop all the way down to either 259 or 242 and bench 900 to 1000 in each one.

My short term goal is to total 1700@ 242 raw this year. My (very) long term goal is to break Kirk Karowski's no knee wrap squat record which is 826. But who knows, somebody might break that first and set the bar higher. Also, to get the all time 242 no knee wrap record..it is currently at 2080. It's a stretch but it will give me something to shoot for in the coming years.

That is a really good goal. Good luck. Kirk was a beast.
