I have to vent this. Visited a fitness center today. Hey, it was new and I was nosy. I stroll in wearing all black, my scully, big beat up gym bag and no smile. The gym is bright, cold with peppy music blaring and people in cute little matching outfits walking around. I catch a few glimpses and I know the look.......pit rat in the fitness center. I stand out like a sore thumb. I was greeted and asked to step into this small cubicle office. I refuse (I know the fitness center "sales plug" trap) and say I just want to work out.

"How often do you workout?" Lots
"Like 5 times a week?" Somethin like that
"Great! We can help you achieve your goals" (silence)
"What are your goals?" To work out uninterrupted
"I mean, do you want to lose, gain," Neither
"UM....OK......what types of equipment do you......" Look, I just want to work out, not be weighed, poked, prodded or analyzed.
"Do you want to know your body fat percentage" No
"When was the last time you measured it" (Silence. I am looking past him into the gym area)
"Well, I see you want to get started. If you change your mind here's my card" No thanks (I walk by without the card).

Yeah, kick me guys. I shouldn't have been there in the first place!

Well the guy's gotta put the food on the table. But still, he should've gotten the hint much earlier.

yeah man... he's just doing his job. but at the same time, we can't expect everyone to understand the way we think.

i have never been in a fitness center; are they all like this? i workout at home now, used to train at the local Y but there were too many a-holes prancing around in spandex pretending they were personal trainers and offering up shitty advice even when i had headphones in and minding my own business. i don't like to be rude, so i would acknowledge their existence; big mistake. i finally said fuck it and set myself up at home. i like people, just not when i am trying to lift.

Damn, I had pretty much the same experience at Golds where I am from... Except I was a little nicer about it and got sucked in to a 20 minute interview where I unenthusiastically answered a bunch of questions.

Trainers like that are what give the rest of us a bad name. Fucking retards in lycra.

It has happened before so I was prepared for the cubicle scene (but I wanted a tour the time before). I figured this time I was a paying visitor so I wouldn't get bombarded. When the guy asked me to step in and I said I just want to work out that should have been the hint. But he asked me to wait, got on the phone and this other guy shows up and tries to conduct it outside of the cubicle. Are there any fitness centers that have a gym mentality? I'm surprised it happened in a Gold's.

As sometimes people misunderstand us, sometimes we misunderstand other people. The guy is just doing his job and is trying to make a living.

Dude was just doing his job bro. Seems like you walked in with a chip on your shoulder, the way you described yourself in the story sounded like an "animal training vid".

Stay humble bro, YOU walked into the fitness center, you should have expected that.

Respect,

I find it funny when they try to give me advice. One ear out the other and go back to what i was doing. Experience over knowledge in this game.
