How many guys on here suffer from sleep apnea? What are you doing for it? Are you using CPAP/BPAP machines, guards or have you found home remedies? I know a lot of times it's caused by weight and that there are a lot of pros who have to use CPAP machines to sleep. I'm going in to get checked this week and try to get a sleep study scheduled. I've been having all the symptoms and have basically just been waiting for it. I'm tired all the time, I can't sleep for shit but when I do I have paused/labored breathing and I snore like a fucking wildebeest! I'm really looking forward to getting some quality sleep.

How did the testing for this go?

Because of my insurance I had to get a referral to see a nuerologist on Feb 29th who will refer me for a sleep study. So I've still got a while to find anything out.

Oh ok I gotcha, the sleep study is a pain in the ass, it is the least comfortable sleep I have ever gotten. But it's smart to get the test done

Leigh, this is something I am dealing with now. I am going to get the study done as well. I need to get it done prior to retiring. So we'will see. But it has gotten pretty bad, I wake myself up because I can't sleep through it. So not getting any good sleep really.

Teach them a lesson and have an apnea induced heart attack before them. That way your heirs can sue them for wrongful death.

No shit. They asked me if I wanted to be on the cancelation/waiting list... I declined becuause the last thing I want is bad mojo from taking the appointment of someone who died from sleep apnea while waiting!

Its all part of the Insurance scam! I had to have a referral from a psychiatrist to see a specialist (dont think it was a neurologist) who then referred me to sleep study.

So yes, i have sleep apnea. Got my cpap in summer of 2007. Its been great.

I got the test done a month or so ago and got my machine about a 2 weeks ago. My girl says the snoring is almost non-existent and she says she doesn't worry that I am stopping breathing during the night. i have found that I get a much deeper sleep when using the machine. I have to admit, its kinda a pain in the ass to use each night, but i am starting to get used to it and it is definitley worth it to get better sleep.

Well it took a while to fall asleep with the mask on last night. I did wake up about every hour which is a huge improvement from 60-90 times an hour. Lol. It's gonna take some getting used to, but I know I was able to train harder today than I have in a long time. More importantly, my wife got a good night's sleep not having to listen to me snore.

Yeah it definitley takes soem getting used to, but you will get there quickly because you will push yourself harder in the gym and during the day so u will crash at the end of the day

My pops has the machine, he uses it once and a while, def not as much as he should. I certainly think i have the same problem, which sucks. What about a deviated septum? Ever get checked for that?

I was checked for that too, but as soon as the neurologist saw the size of my neck he figured it was sleep apnea! Lol

Got more sleep last night. I'm really gonna have a hard time adjusting to this mask though. I get claustrophobic pretty easy so having that strapped to my face is brutal. But I know it's helping. Yesterday I hit two bench movements on ME day, didn't take a 2nd Rage shot in the afternoon (1st time in a long time) and didn't get tired in the afternoon or early evening! I mean I did get a little tired but not enough where I was uncomfortable or wanting a nap. So the difference the machine is making is amazing already. I can't wait to see how I feel once I'm used to it and can sleep all through the night.

I have noticed two "side effects" from it though. One good, one bad. The bad is that I'm even gassier than I was before (didn't think that was possible) from it forcing air into my mouth/nose the whole time I sleep. The good thing, and funny thing... is that my teeth have never been cleaner! Lol. It's like getting your teeth steam cleaned. I've always had pretty yellow teeth from smoking a pack a day for twenty+ years and drinking 1-2 pots of strong black coffee every day. Even though I quit both a while back, they're still stained. Even the dentist couldn't get them white. But two nights of the BiPAP (w/ humidifier attachment) and they are LITERALLY squeaky clean and white as can be! Lol.

I need to chime in on this
While i am glad the machine is working, it probably was not necessary.
While the machines definitely work, most of the time the snoring and apnea is caused by the fact that guys tongues are too large for our throats. the blockage causes the snoring causing the apnea
So the machine forces the air past the blockage, but the sleep study is expensive, even with insurance, then you have a noisy machine and mask to wear.
I chose another route, my dentist suggested trying an anti-snoring mouthpiece. Now of course he wanted me to get the $1500 one from him, but I tried the OTC ones from nosnorezone
The first one I got was the one piece, it worked like it should, I slept, did not snore, and felt better immediately. But I wore it out quickly
then I went to the more expensive one ($169'ish) it was two piece, screw adjustable, absolutely cured the problem, I had to keep adjusting it forward as my jaw could handle it, but it does the job
So before you go and spend hundreds in deductibles for a sleep study, unless you are grossly obese, try this and it may solve the problem

I was going to include a link, but I can't seem to find if they offer the same model, so I'm currently checking

I'll post more

The mouthpiece only works if your jaw is causing the snoring, so it aligns the jaw and stops it. This is not the same as sleep apnea. And as far as "grossly obese"... sleep apnea is actually related to neck size much more so than the person's weight.

but obesity can cause a serious constriction of the neck, causing blockage in and of itself, many times people who lose 50+lbs 'stop snoring' miraculously, but probably don't frequent this site

the mouthpiece pulls the jaw forward, helping to pull the tongue out of the way
a doctor will never tell you that it is this problem, one - they don't think of it first and two - they make money off of the sleep studies and cpap machines

it's just an option for people to consider before spending the money on the study and machine
I know two people who went the whole sleep study cpap machine route, hated the mask, tried the mouthpiece and it worked for them

like I said, the machines work, but many times they are not needed if the alternate is explored

and then, some people cannot handle the mouthpieces, even when they work, because they want to fight the jaw p[osition and give up before they get used to it, or their jaw just can't handle the necessary alignment.
My point is, no ONE solution is a fix all for everyone

My dad died in his sleep 3 years ago and he had sleep apnea. He was on a low dose of pain medication for a fractured pelvic bone, and the doctor said the combination of sleep apnea and pain medication just did him in. I dont know how serious sleep apnea is but im just saying the doctor made it clear that taking pain medication and having sleep apnea is a big no no. The doctor that actually prescribed him the pills got in trouble for this, for not taking the sleep apnea problem that seriously. All im basically saying is i wouldnt take pain pills if you suffer from this problem fella's, it might not happen to you but you never know! Good luck to all you guys with this problem and i hope you guys get help so you can sleep and those muscles can grow!!

Yeah bro, I can't believe how much better I feel after just 4 nights on the BiPAP. It's amazing.

I've heard it's night and day
I was lucky that I just had blockage issues, not true "sleep apnea" with the halting breathing and all, so when i got the mouthpiece, I could sleep so much better

That would be nice! I'm having trouble getting used to the mask. I get very claustrophobic and can't stand having stuff near my face (please no prison jokes... Lol). So having the full mask with forehead brace and extra straps is a bitch. It's getting better and better though. Wouldn't be so bad if I coulda got by with just the nose piece or a smaller full face. But the tech that helped fit me couldn't get over how big my head was. I'm sure the fact that it looks like I got a pack of hotdogs strapped to the back of my neck didn't help either. Lol
