Anoby I am seriously starting to worry about you. you hurt your back doing deads, and you try and max more than you have ever done before. I think you should just lay up for about a week and let yourself heal up man. If you can't go without lifting just train light to maintain. You really need to let your body heal after taking so many injurys. I will give you this tip though. To punch hard you drive with your hips. Using arms won't give you the OOOMPH you are looking for.

Why? Are you involved with boxing?

We don't really discuss punching here bro, or kicking, biting, head butting exc...

Unless you're a boxer I guess i don't really see the point.

Kind of a strange question in the first place, but yes. Driving with your hips will increase it.

Its not always a matter of strength.
Punching effectively has to start with technique.
Then knowing where to land it and making sure you don't break your hand in the process. (e.g. Boxer's Fracture)
Just go to the library or bookstore and get some Muy Thai and MMA books if you're looking to know this.

If you want to learn to punch for a combat sport, awesome. But if you're in some trouble with somebody and you just want to protect yourself, get some sort of authority involved. Fisticuffs is really idiotic way for two rational human beings to settle a dispute.

Like most power movements you need to work the back. Get your rows in your deads. Then the chest bench, mil presses, pullovers work with the heavy ball too bro. Get your body into the punch do not concentrate on just using your hands arms you need to use legs hips etc. Good luck bro.

No, far from it. It's technique, speed, explosiveness and STRENGTH. Use the heavy bag, practice olympic lifts, clap-pushups, pullups, chinups, squats, deads, heavy abs, ... And if you're not a fighter (I'm talking about sports), don't spend too much time focusing on this topic. Special skills are great if there's a need for them.

BTW, you don't need huge arms to be a big hitter. Many great boxers out there who can prove this.

Strength is only a part of “striking” ability. Technique is the most important. A good teacher (Guro, Sifu, Sensei, etc) can teach you this, but it is only a fraction of the entire lesson.

Yeah man, I'm goin with everyone else on this. If you're injured, now is not the time to learn to punch hard. I teach martial arts professionally, so if you're interested send me a PM and I could give you some tips/pointers. Just remember what Bruce Lee said. If you're talking about training for combat, then baby, you better train your whole body. Its all in the technique. Strength can help, but technique is more important. The man bruce lee only weighed 135 lbs soaking wet, yet he was able to generate one of the strongest punches of his time.

Technique is more important than strength when trying to punch harder. I'm from the Philippines and as some of you may know Manny Pacquiao who's so famous here. Boxing gyms have since sprouted like mushrooms here, lol. In one of those boxing gyms where i train a few times, it's common to see thin and small guys punch a bag so hard the whole gym literally shakes. Get someone to teach you the proper technique.

okei first of all, you should know that a punch comes from your hips, if you try to jump and punch you should see why, when you punch you move your wrist and all of your upper body. So if you want to punch harder, work on your bloody movement and train your full body.

You're at the wrong message board man. You need to get more educated about EVERYTHING before posting... Go to a martial arts forum or something because we're bodybuilders... not UFC fighters.

to punch harder, you have to punch faster. grab like five to ten pound dumbells and punch with those, or put ankle weights around your wrists and throw punches. good core strength helps too. you'll be more balanced and be able to quickly turn and throw with more momentum.

Get yourself a heavy bag and a pair of bag gloves.
