In march of 2011 I tore my left pectoral pressing dumbbells. I was on my 3rd drop set with a friend spotting me. On the 3rd rep It felt as someone hit me in the shoulder with the end of a sledgehammer. My spot had his hands under the Dbells when that side gave it tore his bicep. Sorry to say this was hardcore. Two injuries from my one.

First of all this is a time when I was not training smart BUT was. I emphasize training smart!. The not smart was that this gym had a dumbbell bar that you could load plates on with polyurethane grommets to space em. The weight I wanted to use I did not have enough spacers to hold the plates secure but I negotiated the slight wobble and did fine with my goal. The smart thing was using the spot which I am a lone wolf trainer and never use one keeping in my limits. I think I got outside of safety to my shoulder and it cost me. I am still healing. and able to press but not the weight I used to. I can do all the other lifts normal. I went to a sports doc,, so if this happens to you please pass up your regular doc. I got an MRI and tendon did not come off the bone but I did suffer a 2 inch mid belly muscle tear. I have since had Active release treatment which is a waste of time. I found a good massage therapist that is breaking up the scare tissue and It is coming together better. I have an indentation on that pec when I flex.

So listen up fellas,,,,no matter how good you feel or strong you are this can happen. This happened without ANY warnings. So train smart . Go with your goal and bump up your poundage in time.

Train hard train smart.
