For work has brought me here in Europe...
My career keeps me strong & generally fit.. But like us all- I need to lift iron, barbells, and max out on heavy weights. Often.
The gyms as yet are expensive and most gyms don't generally have much when it comes to the basics up here.
Day passes costs 10-18 Euros.. Upto $25.
Out of 4 gyms there is a Health City near west A/dam that isn't to bad. Most of these gyms have lots of machines (with little ROM); but are not too big on squat racks
or smith machines. And forget the female gyms- You will max out the machines. Saunas are co-ed and nude.
Tomorrow I may find a gym called AAC Hercules.. Its meant for powerlifters and wrestlers. I hope it is still in existence.
If anyone has info. on somethings more "Golds Gym" like in this area please let me know.
Otherwise the parks have some of the best free free-weight machines! ha... I would love to be able to post a photo of my workout in the rain!

You can take a look at Temple gym amsterdam, bodybuidling and fitness. 45 euro's for a whole month.

Where in Amsterdam are you, for how long and how far are you willing to travel?
Judging by their website AAC Hercules is still active but geared toward wrestling with weight training being secondary.
There's First Class in Diemen which is pretty good according to dudes on the dutch BB forum - http://www.firstclassgymdiemen.com/index-2.html
Some of them mentioned a gym called "Barbarians" as well but couldn't find any info save for a phone number and street address.
Drop me a message if you need any help, I live 30 mins from Amsterdam so would be glad to help out a fellow Animal.

Barbariansgym is no longer among us, i think they call it ultimate fitness now. Hole setup has been changed. Its not for the hardcore bodybuilder anymore.
First class in Diemen is also a good gym.

Right on. These are some excellent replies.
I would not be opposed to light traveling on a rainy day out here.

Yeah, it's too bad. Randy Vogelzang had a hardcore gym in Heemskerk which is basically nextdoor to me but he passed away...
Looks like The Temple and First Class would be good choices for you depending on where in the city you're staying.
Sup Guys,
I'd like to bump this thread since I have just moved to Amsterdam as well and am looking for a simple Temple-Gym styled place for lifting some iron.
Would be glad if you guys could help out!
Iam looking for an Animal friendly or strong man gym in North Jersey.

While I have had the pleasure of visiting "hardcore" gyms around the world, hardcore is what you make it ladies and gents.
Fuck the lighting, fuck the saunas and juice bars and all that other bullshit. If they don't matter to you in the first place, why let that shit bother you when you're looking for a place to train for a day or week? Forget your surroundings; who cares? At the end of the day, you're there to lift something.
Throw in the earbuds, put in work, leave.

Where in North Jersey?
Some of the others can chime in here but what about Diamond Gym?

On that note though, Amsterdam and its surrounding areas, is an incredible place to visit if you do or don't indulge in their extra curricular activities.

I was looking for a place around the Meadowlands Area. I heard about Duamond Gym. It's actually not that far from me. Maybe I will take a drive there. Thanks.
old thread I know but:
I recently signed up at fit4less.nl - great atmosphere and selection of machines and freeweights, bars etc. prices are between €29,- and €39,- depending on if you go for a 3m., 6m. or 12m. contract.
Hope it helps people now and in the future...
