View Full Version : Alien's Unwitty-Titled Journey... Go BUCKEYES!

Quick introduction. I'm Alien, 21 years old, Paratrooper in the U.S. Army. I have about a year left on my contract at which point I'll be leaving North Carolina to move back home to Columbus, Ohio. I've deployed twice, once to Iraq and once to Haiti. I know you've seen the journeys posted here a million times of new guys who quickly abandom them, never to be heard from again. Well, I promise you that I am NOT one of those people. I'm just starting out and I have forever to go, and I have every intention of posting on this thread regularly years from now. I've been training for a few months now but I'm stil very fresh.

Where I am now:

Height: 5'9"
Weight: 139
Body Fat: 13.6%
Bench: 135 x 11
Squat: 250 x 3
DL: 275 (approx.)

My routine probably seems very strange to you guys, but I'm trying to maintain a balance between lifting and PT for work. My normal schedule is like this: Calisthenics Workout, Off, Calisthenics Workout, Off, Lifting Day, Off, repeat. I'm experiementing with different things right now, and I'm doing this setup for about eight weeks. I plan to cycle through many other programs. I also run and bike randomly and I'll post those activities when necessary.

Haven't done any cardio in four days now, last thing I did was a 24-mile bike ride but I'm taking a break from that until my next paycheck to outfit my mountain bike better. Went to the gym today for about an hour and did a full-body workout. Next time I go I'll track what I do and the numbers so I can post them each week or so here. I'm not sure if pictures are appropriate here or not, I'm going to research that and if it turns out they are, I will post a picture of myself here later to monitor progress.

My general goals are to gain size and strength and still look good. I believe you call that Powerbuilding? My only precise foal right now is to get to a weight of 145 by September 24th, 30 days from now. I need to come up with more precise goals soon, and I will post them here when I do.

Right now I'm consuming around 4,000 Calories a day. I've been doing this for about ten days and have (allegedly) gained 1.5 lbs. in that time, which I think seems like a good pace. The only supplement I use is a weight gainer/whey protein, and I take about 140g Protein from that each day.

Ok, that's all for now. I look forward to learning from all of you in the future, your input, and beginning to log my progress and everything abot my journey here.

Thank you, I appreciate it!

I was going to post a picture for my "starting point" but at the bottom of the page under "Permissions" it says "You may not post attachments". Working on figuring this out...

Today was pretty shitty. Because of coming off the weekend, I only slept a total of two hours last night and then had to be up and at work by 3:30 AM to start my 4:15 AM shift. So I've been up since then, battling the exhaustion today while trying to remain productive.

Today was one of my calisthenics workout days. I have several workouts I have created and each lasts 30 minutes, going for personal best numbers each time. Tonight was "Workout E", and here were my final results for the 30 minute period:

70 Wide Grip Pull Ups
100 Incline Push Ups (just used a chair)
100 Lying Leg Raises (performed with hands behind head)
120 Close Squats (Bodyweight)

Not the best, but definitely smoked me pretty good. Tomorrow will be an off day and then Wednesday will be my second calisthenics workout of the week accompanied by my weekly weigh-in, and Friday will be a gym day. Hoping to squeeze in a good bike ride this weekend if the weather permits.

Nutrition numbers today ended at 4,100 Calories and 255g Protein. I do not track anything else. I just try to pack on Calories and Protein and take a multivitamin, calcium supplement, and fish oil each day.

That's all for today. Resting up tomorrow and trying to eat well and maybe have a pleasant surprise of another pound on the scale Wednesday.

Weekly weigh-in kind of disappointing today. My last one was 139.3 lbs and 13.6% BF. Today my numbers came out at 139.4 lbs. and 13.3% BF. Disappointing, as I said. Wanted to at least get over the 140.0 mark. I know that if those numbers are accurate, it's still progress and I shouldn't be upset. It is what it is, all I can do is keep going this week, check next Wednesday, and hope for good news. Staying motivated.

Another calisthenics workout today, meaning my next session will be Friday and it will be weightlifting. As of this moment, my nutrition for the day has been 3,100 Calories and 224g Protein. I know that's pretty bad for someone who was just bitching this morning about how I was disappointed with my weekly weigh-in. By the time I go to sleep in about 2.5 hours I will be over 4,000 Calories though, and probably rounding out close to 300g Protein. Anyway, here was today's 30-minute calisthenics workout:

60 Lever Pushups (30 each side)
60 Uneven Pullups (30 each side, using a towel)
120 Bodyweight Squats
100 Situps
30 Lying Leg Raises

Not horrible but not great. I decided that when my current routine ends on September 5th, I'm going to revamp my regimen from it's current 2:1 calisthenics to weightlifting ratio to a 1:1 system. I also realize that my food intake needs to increase if I want to make some weight gains, and starting tomorrow my goals will be to hit 5,000 Calories and 300g Protein each day. That's all for now!

Hell yeah! When I used to work in Grandview around '07-'09 he was working as a courier of some sort and used to make deliveries to my office. Very cool dude, always came in wearing his cowboy hat and everything, haha.

Final nutrition numbers today ended at 4,830 Calories (happy with that extra intake, going to try to maintain that) and 335g Protein. I'm not sure about that part, as I do only weigh 139 lbs. and I'm not sure if I could possibly be taking in TOO MUCH Protein, I'm at nearly 2.5x my bodyweight. Oh well, keeping at it for now.

Getting my Caloric intake up is going to be a larger challenge than I presumed. I've been up since 3:30 AM EST and had two protein bars before 9 AM, now eating my actual breakfast and am struggling to put down five scrambled eggs and two sausage links. Damn my appetite, lol. Goal is to get up to 5,000 total today, guessing my Protein will fall around 300-350g. Really tired of seeing 139.x pop up on my scale every Wednesday, it has to be done.

Man I wish my appetite would go away sometimes. I could eat a big meal every hour if I had to. Weighed in at the doc yesterday 282 lbs. I have to stop myself from eating, I just finished meal 3 and I am still hungry.

I wish I had that problem!

Totals for today ended at 5,000 Calories and 376g Protein. Off day as far as training goes, hitting the gym tomorrow. Going to try to remember to take some scrap paper with me and log my entire workout. More in the morning.

I suffer the same problem. I could smash a large pizza and a bowl of ice cream, 10 mins later I could be hungry again lol.

Good work man. 185x2 @140 is good stuff bro. Said you're bulking (in your thread about protein), going for a hypertrophy workout with todays work?

That was the intention, yes. However, logging workouts on here really is making me see where I'm jacked up. I really need to get off this full-body kick I've been on and move to a split, start getting more sets in for each muscle group. And thank you, I was surprised to get 185 up twice today, had intended it as a single when I racked it. So progress...

Workout yesterday was a short calisthenics one consisting of 55 Wide-Grip Pullups, 80 Diamond Pushups, and 100 Lying Leg Raises. Was not pleased at all with this one. Tomorrow I will be doing one more calisthenics workout and then I'm switching to a regimen with a heavier weightlifting side and lighter calisthenics portion. I'm going to look through some of the Animal splits today.

Diet: My averages for this week have been about 4,800 Calories, 300g Protein, and 500g Carbs. Keeping with that for now and we'll see how it works out. That's all for today, more tomorrow.

Looked over all the Animal split routines and picked out several that I like, going to start with Animal Traning Split #5. Going to do my final calisthenics workout of my current regimen tomorrow, take Wednesday off and then start my new program on Thursday. I still have a few minor revisions to make today, but I plan to have the whole thing mapped out pretty soon and posted.

This is my new workout routine I will be beginning on Thursday. Tomorrow I'm doing a calisthenics workout and taking Wednesday off.

This is a modified Animal Split #5. Unless otherwise noted, all exercises are performed for five sets. Reps will be 8, 6, 4, 2, then 50% of the first set to failure. I have rearranged it into 5-day split, 3 on and 2 off.

CHEST/TRICEPS/SHOULDERS

Bench Press
Incline Bench Press
Incline DB Press
Dips (3x20)
Cable Pushdowns
DB Military Press
Front DB Raises (2x10 with last rep held until failure)
Lateral DB Raises (same as above)
Pushups (3x Maximum. Will also go to knees until failure for the last set)
Calf Raises (3x25)
Abs

BACK/BICEPS

Deadlifts
DB Shrugs
Behind-The-Neck Pulldowns
Front Lat Pulldowns
Seated Rows
BB Curls
Preacher Curls
Alternating Seated DB Curls
Pullups (3x Maximum)

QUADS/HAMS

Squats
Leg Curls
Leg Press
Calf Raises (3x25)
Abs

Two days off, then repeat. The ab workouts for the first and third days will likely consist primarily of hanging knee raises, lying leg raises, and situps for a total rep amount of around 200. I plan on cycling through this at least four times, then reevaluate and possibly extend it a couple weeks. I will be tracking my weights for these workouts for once.

Tonight was my last calisthenics workout for a good while, excited to get to the gym on Thursday and start my new routine from my last post. Tonight's workout was 30 minutes of 70 pullups, 140 pushups, and 210 situps. My weekly weigh-in is tomorrow so I'm crossing my fingers for some sort of improvement from last week's numbers of 139.3 lbs. and 13.3% body fat. We'll see, updates coming tomorrow morning.

Great morning! Just had my weekly weigh-in. My first one from two weeks ago was 139.3 at 13.6% BF, last week was a disappointing 139.4 at 13.3% BF. This morning I came in at 141.8 lbs. and 14.2% BF. Extremely happy about this despite the gain in body fat, which I know is going to come with the weight gain for a while. So that's 2.4 lbs. in a week, pretty successful for me. Gym tomorrow.

Today's workout pretty much killed me. I know some of these numbers seem strange, mostly the DB ones because this was my first workout with those exercises and I was really just experimenting. Also, accidentally did DB bench presses instead of DB military presses. Whoops.

Bench Press (145x8, 155x6, 165x4, 175x2, 75x17)
Incline Bench (115x8, 115x6, 125x4, 135x2, 55x18)
DB Incline Press (30x15, 40x8, 45x6, 50x6, 20x20)
DB Press (35x15, 45x8, 50x6, 55x6, 20x22)
Cable Pushdowns (50x8, 60x6, 70x3, 70x2, 30x15)
Dips (10, 8, 8)
Front Raises (2x10 with 10s)
Lateral Raises (2x10 with 10s)
Pushups (3x Maximum)
Calf Raises (3x25)
Abs

DB Shrugs (30x8, 40x6, 50x4, 65x2, 20x23)
Behind The Neck Pulldowns (70x10, 85x6, 100x4, 120x2, 40x21)
Front Lat Pulldowns (85x8, 120x6, 140x4, 160x2, 55x25)

Alternating Seated DB Curls (30x8, 6, 4, 2, 15x14)
Pullups (10, 6, 7)

Today was legs.

Squats (135x8, 175x6, 195x4, 215x2, 75x18)
Machine Leg Press (Don't remember)
Leg Curls (Also don't remember)
Calf Raises (4x25)

Still need to knock out a few ab sets before I go to bed.

Alien
09-11-12, 9:04 pm
Today was chest and triceps.

Bench Press (135x8, 155x6, 175x4, 185x2, 75 to failure)
Incline Bench Press (115x8, 125x6, 125x4, 135x2, 65 to failure)
Incline DB Press (45x8, 55x6, 60x4, 65x2, 25 to failure)
Dips (3x10)
Cable Pushdowns (40x8, 50x6, 60x4, 70x2, drop set from 30 to 20)
DB Military Press (30x8, 35x6, 35x4, 40x2, 20 to failure)
Front Raises (2x10 with 10s)
Lateral Raises (2x10 with 10s)
Calf Raises (3x25)
Pushups (3x to failure)
Abs

I felt good about today's workout, had some firsts for me. My heaviest bench set of two reps from last week today, and then I added 10 lbs to my heavy set. Also had a lot better workout with the DB presses than last week, those 65s were very difficult for me to control, however. My reps looked good, the weight was just difficult for me to get into position. Tomorrow is my weekly weigh-in as well as back/biceps day.

Alien
09-12-12, 7:20 pm
Guess I slacked on the eating this past week because my weigh-in today was 141.2 lbs. at 13.9% BF, from last week's 141.8 lbs. and 14.2% BF. I'm so far at 3,200 Calories today and plan on hitting 5,000 by the end of the day. Not going to track macros as I already know my Protein/Carb intake is very high in my food choices, just need to push the Calorie total.

Great workout today though! Back and biceps...

Deadlifts (135x8, 205x6, 235x4, 275x2, 135x11)
DB Shrugs (35x8, 45x6, 55x4, 70x2, 20x25)
Behind The Neck Pulldowns (85x8, 100x6, 120x4, 140x2, 55x21)
Front Lat Pulldowns (100x8, 120x6, 140x4, 160x2, 55x25)
Seated Rows (100x8, 120x6, 140x4, 160x2, 55x21)
BB Curls (70x8, 80x6, 90x4, 100x2, 40x18)
Preacher Curls (50x8, 60x6, 60x4, 70x2, 30x17)
Alternating Seated DB Curls (30x8, 30x6, 30x4, 30x2, 15x14)
Pullups (8x3)

Really happy with those deadlifts for my size right now, I think that's my best lift.

Alien
09-12-12, 8:23 pm
Finally made some goals. Kind of hard to set a timeline though because I'm supposed to be going to a 25-day training exercise next month and won't have any gym access and no control over my diet... so I might have to work in some recovery time from that, setting me back a bit. Therefore, I'm going to set the date for three months after I get back from training.

Today's approximate numbers...

Body Weight: 141.2
Bench Press: 195
Squat: 235
Deadlift: 290

Goals for 2/1/13:

Body Weight: 155
Bench Press: 225
Squat: 275
Deadlift: 315

This gives me over four and a half months, mostly because of what I mentioned before with the training cycle all next month out of state. This would bring my total from 720 to 815. Not going to bother with any goals set out longer than that, when that date comes around in about 140 days I will reassess from there.

Legs

Squats (135x8, 185x6, 215x4, 235x2, 95x16)
Leg Press (200x8, 200x6, 200x4, 250x2, 90x13)
Leg Curls (45x8, 60x6, 65x4, 70x2, 30x15)
Calf Raises (3x25)
Abs

Chest workout yesterday and back today, working the same routine and making small 5-10 lb. increases on pretty much all sets so far.

Big milestone today, deadlifted 315 lbs. for the first time ever at a 141 bodyweight. Legs tomorrow.

Just got back from a month of training, still alive, just didn't have any sort of internet access. No real updates to give at this time because of that, getting back into the gym tomorrow for legs and we'll see what the next week can produce.
