I'll be entering my first bodybuilding contest on April 14th, which is 3 months away. I've started doing cardio and following a pretty strict diet. I feel like I still need more muscularity in order to win the teen division, so i'll try to gain as much lean mass as possible for the next month and diet hard for 8 weeks. Here's my diet:
Meal 1: 5 egg whites plus 1 whole egg, 6oz potato or cup of oatmeal, fruit
Meal 2: 1 serving of Real gains
Meal 3: 6 oz. of meat, potato or rice, salad
Meal 4: 40g of whey, 3-4 rice cakes, 2 table spoon of peanut butter (pre-workout)
Meal 5: 6 oz of meat, piece of fruit
Meal 6: Can of tuna and half a cup of cottage cheese

Since this is my first contest, any tips or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the support guys, i really appreciate it. I don't think I'll able to win the novice overall or anything like that, but the teen division title should be within reach. I'll turn 20 a couple days after the show, so this is my only chance.

The diet is coming along, I can already see a difference. Right now i'm training with a fractured toe, so i have to rely on a lot of machines. My toe will heal in another month, and i'll go back to the free weights. I want to give Animal Cuts a try, when is the best time to start taking Animal Cuts? The last 3 weeks of the contest prep?

Angst
01-18-07, 3:33 pm
I'm taking the Universal ZMA Pro right now and loving it, i'll switch back to M-Stak at 8 weeks out, by that time my toe should be all healed up and i'll able to train all out again. When i start taking M-Stak, i plan to have a cheat meal every other day for 3 weeks, and then diet hard for the final 5 weeks, this may sound crazy but i have a super fast metabloism. Hopefully the calories from the cheat meal will transfer into some lean mass gains.

Good Luck with your first show bro. Without knowing your body. I would recomend more greens in your diet, for fiber, Instead of the fruit. For lean mass I always got great results from chicken and turkey as well as shakes. I would also save the potato for you pre-work out meal and would do oatmeal the first meal. Don't eat the chesse it woul make your skin thick just like skimmed milk. ---- just my advice

I've come to realize that lots of things are riding on the outcome of my first contest. I dreamed of standing on that stage, holding up the first place trophy high above my head. I want to win, so I can prove to my parents that I am not wasting my time and I do have what it takes, bodybuilding is my life, and I won't let them tell me any different; I want to win, as a way to say "thank you" to my girl, who always had faith in me even when I lost faith in myself, who knows how hard I've worked and how much gains I've made with less-than stellar genetics. And for my true friends, they may not understand why I do what I do but they still support me, because they know this is something that I really enjoy doing. And lastly, I must win, to prove to myself that goals can be reached and dreams can indeed come true. Throughout my life, it seems that I always come up just short, it almost became a habit. The time has come, to break that habit.
I've always dreamed of competing and I've always dreamed of winning that contest. I've paid my dues, I've spilled plenty of sweat and blood, I've made the sacrifices that are need to be made. And on April 14th, I'll go on that stage and claim what is mine. Buckle up, 'cause this is gonna be a hell of a ride

No more cheat day after this Sunday. Been having one cheat day per week for the past few weeks. Haven't figure out what i'm gonna eat on sunday yet, but I won't be eating any chicken for sure, not even wings.
I am 10 weeks out, started taking vanadyl sulfate, 80mg a day, hopefully it won't kill me. I will start doing lunges as soon as I can fit in my normal shoe.

My legs gets extremely sore after the first couple minutes of cardio, but I'm start to getting use to it, don't know if that's a good thing or not.
Lost 4lbs since last week, I'm down to 176lbs. My trainer is going to update my diet starting next week. 5 more days til my last cheat day lol

Hey,
Don't sell yourself short...your capable of anything you put your mind to. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress and your experience. I know when I did my first show, it was the second time I was ever on a stage in front of so many people. The first time..well...I had stage fright and puked! So getting on that stage, in a tiny little posing suit of all things, was major for me. I did it without puking though...3rd time was easy peasy!

Good luck!

Thanks for the support J, my trainer said if I can come in shredded, it doesn't matter what weight class I'll be in. But I'll most likely to be a middle-weight, around 165lbs.

Thank you for the kind words Toni, it'll be the first time I step on stage for anything, so hopefully I won't puke or anything.
Took a few pics of myself last night, I feel like I'm not lean enough at this point. Haven't been drinking enough water lately(less than 1 gallon), so i'll increase my water intake and eat less carbs.

Here's my new diet for the next 2 weeks:
Meal 1: 8 egg whites, 1 yolk, 6oz potato, 1 piece of fruit
Meal 2: Whey, 1 piece of fruit, 2 rice cakes with peanut butter
Meal 3: 8oz of meat, 1 piece of fruit
Meal 4: 50g whey, peanut butter
Meal 5: 8oz of meat, mixed veggies

Not a whole lot of carbs, hopefully this will get me shredded.

The definition in my abs and quads has improved slightly, seems like the diet is working. But like The House said, you can always get leaner. So hopefully I can continue to lose fat and hold on to as much muscle mass as possible.

Hey;

I judge NGA and also hold a NGA Pro card...

What is your weight at now, are you lean-tight now?
Do you have pictures?

Diet looks pretty good, without pictures, hard to say if I would pull the fruit or peanut butter....

In a natural show, the teen class, to be very honest, there won't be many size freaks there, if they are big, most likely they will not be shredded, beat them on conditioning and professionalism!

Practice your mandatory poses!

Make sure on contest day you are razor sharp and dry..all abs/serratus showing, glutes hard and striated, and very good muscle seperation in uppers and lowers.

Most importantly...train hard/smart-diet wise-don't skip cardio...AND HAVE FUN WITH THIS!

Hit me up if you need any help, I am sure you will be a winner.

Best of luck!

Had my trainer took a look at me today, everything looks good at this point. He even said he might start giving me cheat days again.

So I had a dream the other night... on the day of the contest, as I'm walking towards the back stage, I realized that I haven't bought a posing trunk yet. And I was like: ahhh shit I'm screwed.
Thank God it was only a dream, however I also got a glimpse of the teen title in my dream, that's how bad I want that title

ohhh...I am excited for you. Its really gonna hurt now babe..the excessive cardio, carb depletion, the anxiety. I am here if you need some pickin' up or assistance. It gets interesting now..mentally especially. Practice your posing every day from now on. I would normally do about 30-45 min of posing at least per day. Practice your compulsorys, different angles, your best poses. This will help your conditioning and fine tune your physique and presentation.

You can have the muscle, but if you dont know how to pose, its worthless on the stage. I think I am a terrible poser, so practice makes perfect. I would be in a pool of sweat while doing my posing..it gets intense.

Get your music ready for your night show and work on your routine. Remember to smile. Judges love to see smiles because they know how much pain your in standing there posing for who knows how long under those hot spotlights...and its nice to see the smiles. It shows your comfortable and confident in what your doing on that stage. That is really important. You may be tired and hurting, but fake 'em out with a great smile and strength in posing.

Good luck...your almost there.

Very true.
The posing is very important. As shitty as you will be feeling(and you will)you need to make it look like you are fine.Presentation is everything.People will have paid their money and put aside time to see you.Give them a show!!Take that stage!!

Thanks for the advice Just-G.

And Toni, I'll practice the posing as much as I can, but what if I have a horrible smile? : P

A smile brightens everyone's day. If you think you have a terrible smile or bad teeth, than don't show your teeth. I knew a guy once who hated his smile and he went on stage doing the opposite. He had the most cocky but comical attitude. It worked for him because he came off as being fun, not an ass who was full of himself. Its all about showing your true colors, your personality, your individual style. I have fun on stage during the night show. I am a bit silly and I try to have some sex appeal in how I move too...don't try to move all sexy on stage...your a guy! LOL

You have to appeal to the judges in how you present yourself on stage, in addition to having the physique they are looking for. Let's face it, you never know what the judges are lookng for. Correct me if I am wrong here, but they each record their own scores, than tally up at the end. The night show is just icing on the cake..a bonus round let's say. It's more laid back than the pre-judging, but it still counts.

You will be fine. If you can post some pics of you posing, that would be great. Than the pros and others may be able to point out some things for ya.
This is why I post my pics in my journal. So people here who are interested, can give me tips on my progress and such.

What do you see when you look at your reflection? Do you see a finished masterpiece or a work in progress? Let me remind you this is not a team sport you and YOU alone are going to be on that stage, not your trainer not your buddies. So being supportive is one thing being realistic is another. Do we have to be PC here also. The kid asked for constructive criticism and we're selling him that BS about having fun. Nobody suffers through a couple of months of diet and training to end up with a 3rd place trophy. Not much fun kid. In a matter of fact its down right demoralizing.

if you think your losing weight too fast...your certainly not eating enough. Why not add some more protein to the mix? Have you lost more weight? You dont want to appear stringy on that stage..you want solid, full muscles. its one thing to shred down and get all vascular but it wont look right if your shredding to skin and bones either. Got new pics yet?

You look soooooo good..so much better..your side chest is a gorgeous pose and your back looks really, really good..you look really good. You have worked really hard..it is almost time to strut your stuff. I like that your smiling..your enjoying your posing and thats important. Dont want to look like your struggling up on that stage.

Now..5 wks is really tough..you have to maintain and fine tune all you can. You are doing great. Put up pics right before like the week before. Your gonna love carbing up the night before..God I just look so foward to that..counting the days myself...but I am a little less than 12wks out...

You look fab my friend! Hang in there...no matter what..it always pays off in the end. The feeling of self-accomplishment and being able to say yea, I did a show and I rocked...the best feeling in the world man!

Looking a little flat, maybe I should bump up the carbs a bit. Also for some reason the images are a little blurry

I sent you a pm in regards to your "flat" worries...totally normal.

I see your quads came out...they split..I hope mine split at the last minute too! LOL

Your back is so nice..delts, arms...you have done alot of hard work in getting where you are now and maintaining all this time. Dont worry about appearing a bit flat...i made my sugesstions to you in the pm and you will be carbing up like mad the night before the show. This will have a huge impact on your appearance the day of the show. I think you look really good..you are very lean, but again..your 19yrs old. In preparing and doing this show, it is going to teach you so much about yourself. Not just the whole mindgame of contest prep, but about your body in general. After this show, after you give your body some rest from training, you will put on good weight, fill out, look even better than you ever had before and you will be stronger. Plus, you will have that much more experience under your belt and will know how to improve for your next show.

Trial and error...learn by experience...you have achieved so much. I am proud of you for taking the first step, and completing your journey...well, your almost there! LOL

This will open a whole new world for you, more journies, higher expectations..you will never want anything less for yourself after this experience, you will always strive to improve and succeed. A true testament of will and discipline and commitment. Nobody can take this away from you my friend...best of luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Make sure you post pics of the show too!

So my trainer said I can enter the Open division and NOT finish last! Personally I think he's just trying to make me feel good about the show. Like Machine said, confidence kills.

Your quads split nice in the end huh..hope I get that lucky! Like me, you forget to flex those calves. Your side chest and tri' remember, turn the calve out a bit and flex it. Squeeze your knees together and bend a bit if you have to at the knee. Place you calve flexing toe in you other foot's instep. Believe me, its hard for me to do as well. My calves keep cramping bigtime too.

Looking really good..careful with the cardio..I dont think you really need too much. Just go for light pumps in the gym and watch the diet. Your almost there! Well Done!

Yea i lost a LOT of size in my quads, so I'm only doing a 1.5 incline on the treadmill instead of 3.5.
Going to watch another NGA show this saturday, it'll be my first time back stage.

Not very long now..I kinda wish I was where you are at right now...I have 9wks! Remember when you had 9wks? Seemed like ages ago, and how far you have come and so much you have learned about yourself along the way.

I am proud of you..you proved you have what it takes to be on that stage. Now, you go up there and own it.
Let us know how your doing in these final days....

It does get a little bit worse first...LOL, sorry...LOL

Going ZERO carbs til wednesday, everything is looking good, since i don't have a lot of muscle, conditioning will be my strong point. Here's a link to some of the pics: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/photo/showgallery.php?ppuser=133188&cat=500

Well brothers, this is the end of the 12 weeks, the NGA Northeast is tomorrow. All the prep work is done, through this time, I've grown both physically and mentally. It won't be long now, I've been dreaming about this moment for as long as I can remember. I always dreamed about stepping on stage ever since I first picked up a barbell. That time has come, I've put my heart and soul into this thing called bodybuilding. Looking back, I have no regrets whatsoever, bodybuilding's been very good to me, I wouldn't be the person that I am today if I didn't dedicate myself to this sport.
As of right now, I did everything I could to get ready for the contest, whatever happens is beyond my control.
So whether I lose or win, I am proud of the person I've become. I am proud to be a Watchmen on the greatest bodybuilding forum. And I am certainly proud to be part of this brotherhood.

Just got back from the pre-judging. I'm doing 3 class, teen, novice, and open.
No matter what i end up placement wise, I gave all i had and then some, I have absolutly nothing to be ashamed of.

Felt very comfortable on stage, just like another day of posing practice. Will update the results later tonight.
