Trained forarms and calves in the basement...

Reverse curls 3x10-12
Seated wrist curls 4x12-15
Gripper machine in wrist flexion-extension 3x15-20

Seated calf raise 5x25

Going to bed shortly, gotta have my last meal of orange roughy and salad, and than need my beauty sleep!

I got fired up pretty quick today, why---just got thinking about my peers, are they training hard as me, they all got some pretty good genetics, but are they willing to do what it takes in the gym to improve?

One arm standing shoulder press 4x6-12 STRONG!
Streamline shoulder press/plate loaded 3x5-8
3-Way lateral raise (side-front-over head than reverse it) 3x10-12 BURNING!
Cable side raises 3x10-12
Wide upright rows 3x10-12
Reverse pec-dek 3x12-15
super set
Nose pulls 3x12-15
Barbell shrug 4x8-10

Cooked some more fish....getting ready to pose now, have a fish meal---than getting my beauty sleep!

Went to NJ to trash arms today, Champion Fitness, formerly Powerhouse Gym in Bordentown, NJ...Not much of a crowd on a Friday night...guess people did the "happy hour" thang....

Smith machine close grip bench 3x6-10
Skull crusher/wide grip 3x8-10
One arm low pulley extensions 3x10-12
Tricep push down/straight bar 3x10-12
Barbell curls 3x8-10
Seated alternate dumbbell curls 3x6-8
One arm dumbbell 90 degree preacher curl 2x12
Standing hammer curl 3x8-10
Wrist/reverse wrist curls 3x10-12

Hanging leg raise 2x25

Done deal...nice drive home on the NJ/PA turnpike!

Worked seven hours today at my part time job, went to he gym to train legs...My boy Bobby was ther doing some auxilliary work, and was there to push-spot me..THANKS BOBBY!

Knee extension 3x20--today it did not bother my knee ! ??

Heavy ass leg press, after 3 warm ups...4x8-15

Bobby was saying "Ant quit shooting your gun off early with this 15 rep stuff, let's go heavier" I had two 100lb plates on each side of the sled, and the remainder sled filled up with 45lb plates (10 more on each side) for my first set of 15...mind you at 13 I was dead! Second set I added two more 45lb plates, in the platform frame where the foot press plate is located, did that for 15, again at 12 I wanted to dye...third set (when Bobby told me I was shooting off early) I added an extra 150lbs. for 15 reps...after the 10 rep mark, it was all mental! My last set, added another 90lbs....did that for 10 reps! I hobbled on to the Power Squat next, and remember my knee is not 100% healed, so the higher reps did not cause any pain, and still brought in some muscle growth...INTENSITY RULES!

Power Squat...after 3 warm ups...3x8-10

Again the machine was loaded to the max, and had an extra 150lbs on the back-top part for my last set!

Walking lunges up/back gym length 2 sets

Lying leg curl 3x10-15
Super setted
Hip Adductor 3x15-20

Seated leg curl 2x25--smoked em' with the higher reps...

Wanted to take my "after" workout pic, sitting on the couch at home, knees up on my coffee table, boots off, ice packs on both kness and sipping Torrent, looking half dead!

That is what a solid back day looks like. Was telling the fellas at dinner about you Ant, what a positive role model and friend you are. Both guys said to wish you the best in your shows. You got a lot of west coast support!

Hey BigAnt...do the horizontal pullups on a smith machine hit the same muscle area as the regular wide grip pullups and are the horizontal pullups on a smith machine less stressful on the shoulders. Thanks.

SUN-LEGS

ABS-CALVES every other workout!

Hey BigAnt...do the horizontal pullups on a smith machine hit the same muscle area as the regular wide grip pullups and are the horizontal pullups on a smith machine less stressful on the shoulders. Thanks.

I place the heels of my feet on the end of a bench, grab a tad wider than shoulder grip on the smith machine bar, have it locked at waist high...drop my butt, until it hits the ground, and pull my chest up to the bar...still works the lats, but I wanted to do them last this workout, and pre-exhaust with curl grip pul downs, shock-change for the body!

Try them...I also use a 45lb. plate placed on my chest when doing these pull ups...and yes, for me...keeps the shoulders out of pain better!

I've been doing them for awhile I mix them up with the wide grip pullups. I prefer doing these first as a pre - exhaust. Thanks for your help.

It's all good, try doing the horiz. pull ups last and alternate the regular dead hang pull ups first in your back routine...

Nutrition is going well...eating everything in sight. Like BigAl, I even eat my Breyer's ice cream each night with occassional piece of peanut butter ice cream pie.

Your diet looks to be bang on. Comp won't know what hit them in November.

So eventually I got back to this.... Summer has been alright. Just keep things simple, you know. Still hittin' the weights. Started a new split and have some questions for ya on that but will hit you up in the "Ask BigAnt" thread.

How's that condition/size comin' for ya? What are your goals?

nice work today Ant, sorry i couldnt make it, like i said i have a spanish test tomorrow and another language is not my strong point, il be in tomorrow, not really going to lift going to do some cardio lol yes i said the c word, my elbow was killing me today for no reason didnt do any kind of lifting since tuesday, but i will be lifting/spotting you on sunday if your going to the gym that day.

He spotted me-pushed me through my leg workout...I was like Hey Bobby...."I want to try a new workout today for legs" I told him my plan, he was like..."That shit is crazy, shook his head and walked away saying...let me know when you need the spots"

So here is what I did...

Warmed up very good on treadmill 8 minutes. And also warmed up with the leg ext. machine and leg press...all light sets 3-sets each!

THE WORKOUT
Leg extension x20 reps
Go right into:
Walking lunge, (25 steps) with heavy dumbbells to the leg press machine
Go right into:
Heavy leg press x10
Go right into:
Walking lunge back (25 reps) with heavy dumbbells to the leg ext. machine

I do some "touch-up" work for tris on chest day and the same for bis on back day, but train heavier 5-8 reps, 2 exercises, 2 sets each, Big Al is doing this also...seems to work, you ever see his freaky big-hard-veiny arms?

So I did not do the rev. grip p/d on my Arm day on Friday...I do what ever movements I have not done previously in my "arm" workout...

As far a isolate the muscle more, any exercise will do it, if the form is strict, you have enough weight to do 6-12 reps and you gotta have the
MIND-MUSCLE connection!

9/18/07- Wednesday

Was all set to train back, did my 7 minute warm up on the tread...felt good, slammed down my Shock...and started to stretch out my back, it felt tight?
Did some very light - light lat pulldowns, still tight and a little pain--mid back!

So, I threw my Journal-BigAnt drink in my bag, took off my walkman and headed home...

You see, Sure, I could of workout out, trained like a wuss, I was in no condition to do heavy ass t-bar, barbell, 1 arm dumbbell and low pulley rows, and rack deads, not with that tightness and little pain in my mid-back, sure I could of did pull downs, chest-padded machine rows, and some Hammer Strength stuff, that is fine for a "workout" But for me, to train to win, winning--beating my previous best and to train harder than my peers...it was not going to cut it....View your entire body as a whole...My leg workout on Sunday was extra heavy and very VERY INTENSE...And my chest workout yesterday, did some heavy pushing---5-8 rep stuff on the basic compound lifts...so my body - as a whole..the central nervous system...could not take another heavy day...remember I am on low carbs-calories and a high cardio output (compared to my off-season)

My back won't know the difference of taking off Tuesday or Wednesday...but, it will know the difference in doing the pulldown-machine workout vs. the heavy rows-deads...

Tomorrow is another day...will attempt the heavy back workout on Wednesday!

btw, do you slam down your shock after you warm up on the treadmill? I think i'm gonna do that because, if I just take it before I leave home...get to the gym, then warm up...by the time i start my real sets the effect is not as good...what do you recommend?

good workout today back with vengence is right, damn good. how did your back, and strength feel today?

I FOUND OUT, IN THE OLD SCHOOL T-BAR ROWS...THE OLYMPIC BAR END CAN HOLD 11 25LB PLATES, DID IT FOR 8!

Remember I usually do 10 plates for 6-8...found some thinner plates!

The rest did me good!

Because I am old as dirt (40) I Icy Hot my elbows prior to trainng and use neoprene elbow sleeves, to lock the heat in and help with support, Lowdown also does this, and is getting good results also!

If you see my training pics, I ALWAYS have elbow(for upper body) and knee(lower body) neoprenes on!

Had to work 8 hours today at part-time job, until 2:30, my gym closes at 5:00...did not want to rush my workout, and I do prefer some of my
home-LEG-equipment over my gym's! Bobby made the call, asked me if he needed me for spots and to train with, told him to study and rest and chill, will like IT,if he is there tomorrow Monday for chest! Just as I was drinking my Shock, cell phone rings, my buddy Keith called "Ant, you down with training legs at the gym today?" I said be at my house in 5 minutes if you are going to train...he was there...Keith lives very close to me, and is
big - 6'2 280lbs. Not the leanest, but he just wants to be strong and big, he works a lot--great provider for his family--Remember my article "Time for what" He is a great example to this...I made him a Shock drink, and off we went into the basement...we took "training pictures" Again like all of my other pictures, these are not staged-planned, it is me actually training, doing my exercises/workout, why a lot of them are not exactly in the mid-top-range portion of the exercise!

And my neoprene knee sleeves are on with thin coat of Icy Hot under...You can get these knee sleeves at any sporting good shop, they have an opening for the patella.

The workout!

Leg extension 3x12-15..my stack goes up to 300lbs. Had to add three 25lb plates for my last set...no knee pain!

Leg sled 4x8-12

Power squat machine-deep 3x10-12

Walking lunge-outside 2x30 steps up/back (delcline to flat) & (flat to incline)

Seated leg surl 3x6-10

Standing leg curl 3x8-12

Stiff leg deads (old school on bench) 3x 8-10

Done deal...was a great workout, eating my tilapia/grilled onions meal now!

Hey Anthony...I use neoprene sleeves for my knees-elbows...you can find them in the pharmacy section of Target or at a finer Sporting good store (Dicks, Sports Authority)

*I have not taken any chest training pictures, and I have been getting many PM's to show the serratus-punch-press and my "standard" chest movements...also got some requests to take back training pictures
(t-bar-barbell-one arm dumbbell rows)--my form, how I do them!

And also WHY I throw in some body part poses, people always ask me about my conditioning and how does it changes from week to week....Well, at the 5-6 week mark, if you did your home work correctly, you should see changes every 3-4 days...I plan to be ready to step on stage at 2 weeks out, just coast in, nothing dangerous or out of the norm to shock the body, pull a little water and hit the stage!

I do not take pictures to look cute or to show off, I am TRYING to educate people who send me messages, again, my pictures are me...ACTUALLY training--no set-up or posed pictures using fake weights or partial movements...The people who appreciate them and who use them for motivation/educational purposes...I am glad they help...the others...well...I have no time for small minded people!

Motivation...I use pictures...I have Vinny's, Wrath's, & Big Al's pictures on my wall...soon as you hit the last step in my home-gym's floor...I vew Ox's website daily and watch bodybuildiong DVD's while I do my cardio--!

Whatever it takes, gotta keep the fire burning!!!

Thanks...rotation -- 3 weeks of doing 2 incline movements first, than flats, 1 week of barbell bench first, than 2 inclines movements...and start over...

LOL, I will try hahah...tried doing my lat stretch today for the first time with a 25 strapped to the belt, felt real good...but I'm startin to feel some signs of overtraining and I'm gonna take a week off(active rest) before I just completely fry. Will get back at it hard next week hopefully. Keep up the great work Ant.

Mighty fine. Took your advice from earlier about Wide Grip Pullups at the beginning of the workout and finishing the workout with Horizontal Pullups on the smith bar. Feels real good!

Oh I already got that done. I decided not to major in Economics. I figure if I am going to learn something I want to be something fun for me and something I will enjoy doing in life. So I decided to major in Marketing. I spoke with my brother and he said it was a great idea. He told me eventually when I open up my own business (hopefully more then one lol) I am going to end up marketing my self and the business. Eventually I will go for my masters degree as well...get myself one of those MBA's lol. I really appreciate it though that you offered the help. Thanks BigAnt.

Also, I am getting myself an E-permit which allows you to take classes in other colleges. Since my school doesnt offer classes on nutrition and kinesiology I am gonna have to take em some where else. I plan on competing one day and I am sure courses like that will help me. I am going to become a personnel trainer as well...once again those classes will help alot. Well BigAnt I got to get to class or I am gonna be late. Your workouts are looking really insane too. I am going to try some of them. Peace. Again thanks alot man for everything your doing. I AM GOIN GOING THE LAM. I will still answer your questions on the Ask Big Ant section. But with working 3 jobs, my contest prep and other stuff around the house, my time is almost empty, this close to the show, sleep and getting in all of your meals are just as important as training and cardio. It sucks I have no more inter-net acess at work...

Pictures---you will see them next at the Philly Gathering and also contest day-night pics. I know--I know--I am still getting PM's for chest and back training pictures for educational purposes...

sorry Ant have a test tomorrow in spanish, had alot of studying its getting harder. training for me right now is going to have to take a back seat as much as i hate to say that but its come down to it, i think i may have over did it with 6 classes this semester. but il be in as much as i can to help out.
