Hey Guys,
Once a year I would always pull something in my back region when doing shoulder presses. I would be doing the press and I would feel like a pinch in my upper back near my shoulder blade and I would stop working out immediately. The pain would take about 24 hours to hit full potential and then go away fully after a few days. This would happen once a year for about 3 or 4 years then I went about a year with nothing.
So in June I was doing shoulder presses and I was about to do my third set when it happened. This time I didnt even get the bar off the rack. I started to push up on the bar and it felt like someone stabbed me in the shoulder blade or close to it. I stopped and knew it felt worse then usual. The next few days I couldnt even move and my right shoulder was almost touching my ear from spasms. My doctor gave me some muscle relaxants and anti inflammatory meds and after a week I was mostly better.
The thing is I still have the pain. It only hurts if I turn my head to the right or down or down and to the left. Also if I lay certain ways or whatever it acts up. I dont think it is a back issue because it feels like it goes from the base of my neck and curves down and into my right shoulder blade. I have gotten x-rays and tried medication and still nothing. I was going to go to a chiropractor but my doctor said it wasn't a spine issue and that wouldn't help with what I was going through. He said it was muscle spasms and I needed to go to a physical therapist 3 times a week to see any results. Now, I am not 100% sure I have been getting muscle spasms 24 hours a day for over 6 months and I definitely do not have the time to go to therapy 3 times a week with work and everything.
Does this sound like anything specific to anyone and does anyone know anything that helps? I would try and find time to go to a therapist if I thought that was what it might be, but my doctor just seemed to be guessing to be honest. I know I should go to another doctor but they will probably tell me the same thing.
I just wanted to see if anyone has had this type of pain and if so what they did to help it. If all else fails I will probably just try and get to therapy even though I dont think it will work..
I think I should add that stretching it out makes it a lot worse.
Thanks for any help guys. I really need to get back to the gym.
