Obviously, this is a body building site/company. However, I recently took up bodybuilding at the age of 17. Now, entering my final stretch in high school, I decided to give powerlifting a go. My coach has been telling me that with my brute strength and raw strength combined with the help from a few suits, he can feasibly see me winning at State. I'm not worried about the bench shirt nor the squat suits or any of that. I was just trying to figure out more information about deadlift. That's the one main lift I struggle in. I pull sumo (and squat with a shoulder width stance) and I heard it would be best to buy a separate DL suit and not use the squat suit for sumo, however, I've read into it and numerous websites have said that it was okay to use the squat suit for DL as the support from the suit itself would carry over. is this true? if there are any other powrlifters out there please voice your opinion, please. Thanks, take care, and train hard.

Welcome!

This site is actually huge into Power lifting. There's a great spread of top power lifters under the Animal banner. This doesn't answer your direct question, but you can learn a ton by checking out the "Ask the Animals" section of the forum, and reading the pro PL'rs Q/A's or posting a question and getting feedback:

Dan Green uses sumo style for a massive dead lift. His thread is:

Honestly, I started the exact same way. I didn't want to look like a "typical" powerlifter so even though I too won state in high school, I went into bodybuilding and did it for a few years. It was fun but I was built for the powerlifting side and everything has fallen into place since then. There are a ton of great lifters on here specifically on deadlifts...(hold my own, but not my forte) so the information will be there. Do what's fun and what you enjoy.

Today, Animal is much more into powerliftin than it has ever been I think. Arguably, its sponsoring more powerlifters and than bodybuilders... Youve got a few new elite powerlifters here who started as bodybuilders and then switched over to powerlifting, fellas like JHOORNSTRA, Freakshowelite, and GUNZ504. Check out their Q/A threads over here brotha.
