Whats up Animals, my name is Mike. Im 21 years old and have been powerlifting for almost a year now although Ive been in the gym for almost 3 years. Sadly those first 2 years were spent not doing much of shit, not seeing results, and not knowing what I wanted to do. That thankfully changed in August of 2012 when I stumbled upon Jim Wendler, and I immediately began 5/3/1. After 5 months of 5/3/1 I made awesome progress in all my lifts and had my first meet in sight. Once I had picked a meet I began a smolov cycle to peak for said meet. I also responded very well to the craziness of smolov and put 70lbs on my max squat after just the first 6 week phase. Needless to say I was pumped and my main meet goal was very achievable at this point.
Now lets fast forward to 2 weeks out from the meet. Its my day off, im hanging with my friends and one of them hands me a longboard. So me being me jumps on said longboard and starts cruising, which turns out wasnt a good idea. 2 weeks to the day from my first meet i fall off of a longboard at 13-15mph and snap my right arm completely in half as well as break my wrist. An ambulance ride, emergency surgery, 2 new steel plates, and a lot of xrays later im here. Im still not recovered 4 months later but Im finally making progress after 12 weeks of no bone regrowth and not being able to actually use my right arm beyond holding light things in my hand. That being said if my treatment is working the end of this very boring and miserable chapter is almost over. Doc told me i can use weights up to 5lbs on that arm, but i know me better than he knows me so ive tweaked that number slightly. By no means am I benching or deadlifting but i am doing what i can manage which is lots of volume with light weight in my arms and back. Ive always neglected my arms so im taking this time to work on getting them caught up and getting strength back in my forearm and the tendons in each arm.
Anyway sorry for the long winded post. Im stoked to be here and look forward to becoming part of this community.
Also I have pics of the xrays and what my arm looked like after i got out of the hospital if anyone wants to see lol.
