View Full Version : A review of Rage XL

My can of Rage XL came in the mail yesterday (thanks again Corporate). I will be popping the can tomorrow afternoon. Yesterday I also received the rest of my stack, the new, improved Stak (I was one of the beta testers. Loved it. Looking forward to running it again.) and BCAA Stack that I ordered to compliment the Rage XL.

I will also be adding in some grapefruit juice prior to taking Stak/Rage. I used it during a portion of the Stak beta testing and I felt it gave things a little more umph, given the natural effect of grapefruit juice on drugs/supplements.

I just started a new 5/3/1 program for bench, squat, deads and OHP and will be following this program through the run of my current stack and likely beyond.

Starting tomorrow through Saturday I have a string of late nights and early mornings due to training and personal commitments. I'll be leaning on Rage XL to get me through a few workouts in that span, so I'm looking forward to seeing what it's made of.

What is the natural effect of grapefruit juice on supplements?

There's an enzyme in grapefruit that slows down the absorption of drugs/supps causing the half life to be longer. That's the reason most medications say to not take with grapefruit juice. It can cause the medicine to build up in the system and retain higher levels for a longer period of time, basically making it a higher dose.

Thank you Bruiser.

If I was on any medications I would stay away from GF juice, but it seemed to work out just fine before, plus it adds some carbs preworkout.

What I've "heard" is that it does the same. Helps it build in your system and can cut your need for a dose in half... :D

If it slows down the absorption, would it take longer for supps to kick in as well? For example, instead of taking Rage 15 mins prior to a workout , would it be advisable to take it say...30 -35 mins pre workout??

I'm thinking about giving grape fruit juice a try....

I would always opt for the actual fruit vs the juice--the juices tend to be more heavily processed and remove a lot of the potent compounds while leaving a lot of sugar behind!

On a sidenote, we utilize a special grapefuit powder extract in these Animal supps to boost absorption; Animal Cuts, Animal Test and Animal M-Stak.

Where do you read this? I have never see a label about not drinking grapefruit juice with supps or medicines. It is always 'don't drink alcohol'.

It's a well known fact. They're are over 80 drugs that it interferes/interacts with. I "know people" who've used it to their benefit too. A lot of people addicted to prescription meds use it as a way of boosting effects of certain drugs as do some athletes who use oral PEDs. It can be EXTREMELY dangerous to do that with meds. Supps it's just basically a boosting agent.

Shoulders Thursday.
Friday was a rest day.
Had to skip leg day today. A bit sick, not sure if allergies or the cold type crap that is being passed around these days.

First time taking Rage XL, went down great. Sipped it Dano style.
Felt it kick in within a few minutes, even with grapefruit juice. Nice steady energy for several hours. Wonderful grape flavor.

OHP: 130 x 5, 150 x 5, 170 x 10
Clean Grip Upright Rows: 95 x 10 x 3, 115 x 10 x 2
DB Side Raises: 15 x 10 x 2, 20 x 10
DB Front Raises: 25 x 10, 30 x 10
Farmers Walk: 100 DB length of gym and back x 5

I just get whatever is cheaper at whatever grocery store I end up at shopping for it. I hear actually eating the grapefruit is better for what we are using it for, but I lift after work and it's easier to just down a glass beforehand.

Thanks Bruiser. My max bench is 315 gym/300 competition. Deads is 465 and overhead press is 225 with a BB (I've done the equivalent with the log for strongman as well. My squat max all depends on what you consider to depth. Was 475 at what I believe would pass in a meet, but my training partner decided we weren't going deep enough. Worked back up to 405 and then my partner, who just started training Olympic lifts, decided we had to go deeper. I'm an now ATG at 365 or so. I'm starting to think my training partner doesn't want me to squat 405...

Nice work--Lotta big rep PRs in here Wedge!

Any PL competitions coming up?

Thanks J. A lot of the rep PRs are because of the 531 template. First time in a long time that I've gone for reps instead of heavy singles/doubles/triples.
I keep saying I want to do a PL meet (I've done a few bench only contests and a handful of strongman contests) but I haven't made it a reality yet. Looking at one possibly with Jay Ro early next year. I really need to pull the trigger and just do it.

Ah, that makes sense with the reps! 5/3/1 is a solid program for getting stronger. You should definitely consider doing a full meet--there's nothing quite like that experience! For the longest time I put off doing a meet but eventually NG and Skiba convinced me to do one and ever since, I've been hooked b/c it's a great way to stay focused on your lifts.

Good work on those new PRs again today!

I want to do a meet, but I keep psyching myself out. Odd, considering I've done a few contests, but there nonetheless.

Yes. It is very true that in fact has been shown to inhibit the action of an enzyme in the intestinal wall which slows the entry of drugs into the bloodstream. Moreover the derivative found in grapefruits doesn't encourage the drug absorption any better it actually blocks it from being degraded and therefore the levels of drug in the blood increase.

The effects of grapefruit is something discovered almost a decade ago in order to mask the taste of medication. However, be that as it may there are shown as indicated these such effects proven with certain drugs to actually help bolster the absorption rate in the body. So, effectively this slows down the enzyme that breaks them down. While, it is rather distinct from the shrewd effectiveness for acidity to dissolve some tablets, it works nevertheless.

Conversely, there are good reasons to avoid so-said products for which contain grapefruit only if you already have been prescribed or when taking certain drugs i.e. this being some that are prescribed for fighting life-threatening conditions such as heart disease, cancer, organ-transplant rejection, and infection. There have been many studies over the years that seem to indicate there are 85 drugs that can interact with the fruit and that 43 of those have serious side effects. Physicians should review medication lists often, with the goal of warning patients about adverse interactions. This being said, otherwise I cannot find any reason for concern here.

Well, unfortunately, my tub of Rage XL did have a bottom. Finished it off the other day, but haven't really had a chance to post in the last few days.
The last few times I used Rage XL, I added some grape BCAA Stack to it. Felt pretty good in the gym.

Overall, I loved Rage XL, even more so than the original Rage (though I still love the original orange flavor the best). Rage XL gives you that quiet energy. You know its there when you need it, but you're not jittery or tweaking. No crash later and, unlike many other preworkout supplements, you are not wired for hours on end because of the caffeine. I'm looking forward to trying out the other flavors in the near future.
