Hell Vinny, your just a kid! The joints do take a beating and I have been taking Flex since it came out. It helps a lot, but it isn't going to fix everything. I have problems with a tricep tendon and when it gets bad I have to drop skull crushers and tricep extentions for a while. When my left shouder starts popping it is a sign I need to back off or take a few days off or I'll blow it out. I need to lift smarter so I can keep at it. My biggest problem is I still have a 25 year old mind and mouth in a 58 year old body.

Yeah..."flex" does help....latley i been training a lilttle slower tempo, and doing less sets...kinda like the HIT TRAINING style....its working real good for me right now.

i had a small bicep tendon tear over the past summer....so i'm playin it smarter in the gym.

I have also gone to a high intensity/low volume/high frequency incorporating a lot of the DC princaples. High volume was tearing my ass up. I'll drop my Pump and start the party in 30 minutes.

wHAT EXACTLY IS THE DC STYLE OF TRAINING....I HEAR ABOUT IT, BUT DONT KNOW ANYTHING ON IT.

DC is another form of HIT. Mentzer started using low volume training going to failure with long negatives, rest pause and statics with seven or more days between body parts. Since then it has been improved by people like Dorian Yates. Yates added more volume. Dante started hitting body parts more freqently and going to failure up to three times per set, depending on a persons recovery ability. DC is Dante's way of training and you hit every muscle twice in eight days going to failure three times per set with around fifteen seconds between lifts. Some things like deads and sqats are not done to failure. You do only one set per muscle group and can also do static holds. The contraction is explosive and the negative on most exercises is up to eight seconds. A cycle would be three uppers and three lowers with different exercises for each of the three. You ad weight, or reps each session until you can't ad anymore weight, then you drop that exercise and ad another that hits the same muscle group. Thats a condensed version. I have made changes becouse my arms needed more work. Capital Punishment DC Style is in the training logs if you want to take a look at his routine as well as my log.

Hey, Vinnie, watch it with the "old fuck" comments - I turn 38 in 5 months!.....LOL

I know what you mean about the aches and pains. I started with Jointment Sport, switched to Flex, and both help a ton.

Also, there is ALOT of ice involved with my training now. I ice about everything after just about ever workout. Plus, my periodzation is different now that 10 or 15 years ago, in order to give my joints alot more of a break than before, maybe something like:
Conditioning (2-4 weeks)
Strength/Hypertrophy (6-8 weeks)
Rest (1 week)
Power (6-8 weeks)
Rest (2 weeks)
Rehab/recondition (2-4 weeks)

36 Years old here. I have had surgury one one knee and, thank God, I can still go pretty heavy on legs.

What is killing me these days is my right shoulder. I dislocated it many years ago and I think I stretched the tendon (not sure what it would be called). Now, I have decent strength in certain shoulder presses (I can barbell military press 185 4X10), but say front lateral dumbell raises...it is near zero strength. My arm starts shaking at 20 lb. dumbbells. Looks really stupid when I am doing it.

Any suggestions?

Turning 42 soon and getting smarter about training as the years go bye. I'm working out 4 days a week--M/T/TH/F--Pull, Push, Legs, & Light Upper with more Shoulders & Arms. Definitely taking Animal Flex, drinking lots of water, and trying to get enough sleep by using melatonin. I also limit my cardio to maintain strength. It sucks to get old, but it's nice to get wiser!

Being summer in south africa now, the joints don't hurt as much as in winter. Taking omega-3's seem to help me.
Just started using a modified version of DC training. Only change i'm making is rotating my exercises evey 6 weeks & not every workout ( just becoz i tend to lose motivation when i change exercises so often).
Will let u guyz know how it works for me.

I JOKE ABOUT THE AGE THING, BUT WE DO HAVE TO TRAIN SMATER.
I LIKE TO CHANGE UP THE WORKOUT ABOUT EVER 4 WEEKS...MAKING SURE I ALWAYS GET A PUMP, MORE SO THAN BEING CONCERNED ABOUT HOW MUCH WEIGHT I LIFT.

Yo Vinny...old fuck you are not...nor am I at 53...and look at the redlion...58...see...we keep pumping...dont let age stop you...my girlfriend soon to be wife is 27....and she has a good time keeping up with me!!!!....I had a 23 year lay off from lifting...but desided to get back into the gym...and take care of myself...once and for all.....Im promoting myself....and I like the way it feels. Its funny how things go....started this way back in Houston....trained with a good friend...Oliver Nickolson...who owns a nice gym in Houston...I worked with him for 3 years....he competed against Ron Love for a while...and Gary Srydom was in our gym as well at the time....you never know whats going to happen....its crazy...

i just turned 35, and am caught in a bit of a problem with my training. i have been training 5 days a week since i started, but lately have been finding that my body isn't recouping as fast as it did, and now am trying to figure out a good 4 day split. it sucks because my mind wants to train 5 days at least, but the body gets so run down very fast. i never do much cardio now, but am thinking about throwing it back in the mix and only lifting 4 days. seems that fat gains in the midsection occur a lot faster than they used to.

47 here and still going strong...
They even give us our own class to compete in - "The Masters" LOL
I love that.

Anyway, I have been blessed with good strength & flexibilty and no problems other than an aching back in the a.m.
A hot shower to loosen things up and I'm good to go.

Knockin' on 57 here. Ready for a hot Spring and Summer and plenty of iron.
You train safer, smarter & maybe slower but the reps 'n sets still make you growl and sweat. Aches and pains will come whether you're a fat fuck or a fit Animal. Easy choice.

Been wondering how come we don't have a section for the older animals, since our diet and training needs tend to be different.
Hey, if there are any of the older guys/girls here, let me know what you think and maybe we could rally and have them give us a section (yes, no, maybe?)

well....then I would be in the 50+ group...but to be honest.....my soul...my body and spirit is more like a 30 yr old than a 53 year old. What I do in the gym...what I have done to my body in a year is kinda of unheard of and out of the box for my age group. My diet...sups are aggressive.....I do my best to eat as much good food as I can.....I take the best sups..."Animal/UN"...and my routien is Wraths split.....Im 100% fucking animal guys...I train hard and dont mess around....when its my time in the gym....its my time....I may be an older dog...but Im not ready to hang up my straps yet....Im here to stay...Im strong....Im dedicated....Im animal at 53 and in a year +...I compete...and I will kick some old ass....

36 here and Animal Flex is my best friend.

The biggest differences I noticed are that it takes a lot longer to recover and it's a lot harder to get leaner.

So young Animal's, enjoy it while you can!!!
