10 weeks out from my first meet. Lots of work to do, lets get to it.

National bench day, not a fan of going in Mondays after work but that's what had to be done.

Bench - warmups, 225x10, 270x5, 285x4 - should have done 295x3 for last set but didn't think I'd have a spot so I didn't want to put that on the bar. I did get a spot which is why I knocked out an extra rep to help make up for it.

Assistance work
Dip with 20lb chain 4 sets of 12
OHP 135x10,10,8,7
Cable pushdowns 90lbs 4 sets of 12
Elevated pushups - 2 sets to failure ~20 reps or so.

Squats and assistance work on tap for tomorrow.

Tuesday night squat night. Not going to use a belt on anything until I get a few weeks out.

Squats - warmups, 255 x 10, 305 x 5, 315 x 3 - was only planning on doing 295 on that second working set but my math sucks and I didn't realize it until after my set. Oops!

Hanging leg raise 3 sets of 20 SS with Hyper ext 3 sets of 15
Lying leg curls 2 sets of 10 SS with Standing BB lunge 2 sets of 10

Wanted to get more in but time was short this morning. Also heading up to Boston this weekend for PAX East and I am going to get my training in on Friday and Saturday at Strength Discovery. Pretty excited to head up there and check that place out.

Saturday - was in Boston for PAX East so I left the con to hit up Strength Discovery in Revere which was about 20 mins away from the hotel. Hit deads plus accessory work and spent some time talking David about meet prep. He is such a cool guy and he really knows his shit. If we make it back to Boston, I will be going back for sure. This was the only time I was able to get anytime in the gym during the trip, at least I made it worth it.

failed at 325, got too far forward at the bottom of the 3rd rep and had to set it down, came back a minute later and made it my bitch. 335 is a PR. I can only see this going up from here. Now that I know exactly how to set up the rack if I fail I will not be afraid to set the weight down and come back at it.

Got some awesome advice this weekend: don't overlook the 2.5 lb plates; a 5 lb PR IS a PR.

Seems so obvious but a lot of us are chasing huge numbers and forget that we can get there in the smallest of increments and time.

Pulled Tuesday morning after a long weekend of being ill. It has affected my numbers a bit but nothing that I can't overcome.

DL - warmups, 335x10, 385x5, 410x0
Def. DL on 2 plates, 225x5 for 4 sets
Cable crunches - 3 sets of 10
Wide grip pulldown - 160x10, 180x8, 200x6
Inc DB curls - 20sx12 for 4 sets

Time to head in for bench work.

Have not posted here in a bit but still working hard. Have a little set back with my grip strength due to the fact that I jammed little finger on my right hand playing kickball last week. It's almost back to normal but it has impacted my bench and deads. I will get back to logging everything once I get back in the gym Monday.

Monday was squats, as I worked through some warmups my lower back was feeling really tight so I finished it off after doing 4 sets of 10 at 225.

Wednesday
Deadlift - warmups, 95 and 145 with quarters to pull from deficit, seemed to help with bar speed off the floor as I moved up to the regular plates
working sets - 315x5, 365x5, 405x3, 405x1 and held it at the top til my grip gave out - little finger on right hand got jammed again this week at kickball so I am still dealing with that. I am either going to have to tape it to my ring finger for the rest of the game or maybe just DH/sit out until the meet so I can let this heal.

BB rows - 4 sets of 10
reverse hypers - 3 sets of 12
wide grip pulldowns - 4 sets of 10
BB shrugs - 2 sets of 12

Saturday - went out to Dayton to squat with Tark and his buddy Jason, the session was insane.

Squats - warmups, 315x2, 365x1 (PR), 375x1 (PR), 385x1 (PR)
Rev band squats - too many to remember, worked up to 405x1 - felt really awesome to walk out the 405

After that we busted out some SLDL, leg ext, and leg curls. Completely toasted!

It was great training with AJ and Jason, I have never pushed myself like that before. Can't wait for the meet to get here!

435 was a 10lb PR. Held it at the top for a good 10 seconds. Prolly had another in me but don't want to over do it.

Total: 1135


According to RPS, I now hold the world records for squat, deads, and total the state record for bench. It was such a great experience and can't wait to do it again. AJ did really great as well and introduced me to a lot of really cool people that helped us out a lot and gave some really great advice. I may have qualified to compete at the 2015 Arnold, but I am not 100% sure.

Thanks man, I know you are still working hard and you've always got family stuff going on which is top priority. We'll have to get together soon at BLT or at least ride down to the Cincy ABC for Rob's charity event together.
