Hello guys

I´ve recently done an electrocardiogram and it turned out to be abnormal with possible left ventricular hypertrophy.

I´m a bit worried now after seeing the results, which made me decrease the intensity in the gym and stop strength training days. I mostly go through the motions untill i see the doctor this tuesday.

Is it possible this is a physiological response to training and it belongs to the category of athlete´s heart? I don´t have high blood pressure or high cholestrol but i have been under work stress this past year which makes me think it is also the culprit, because i workout since i was 17 years old (im 32 years old now) and the ECG were always normal.

Hopefully it's nothing, but it's good to get it checked.

Please keep us updated on your condition. All the best for today. Hope it´s not as bad as you think...

Hopefully this isn't as bad as it sounds. Play it safe until you are sure. Keep everyone posted.

It's not "bad" but it's usually associated with high blood pressure, so make sure that you keep that in control if you do have high blood pressure as that will be the greatest factor in high risk of heart attacks.

a friend of mine went to get an EKG at a regular doctor and basically came out with a death sentence.
He then went to see a specialist. This guy told him that everything was normal for him being an athlete of higher bodyweight and training as intense as he does.
Don´t let this freak you out. See a specialist and talk to him in detail about your way of life and training.

That's good to know.
We definitely have to keep in mind that 'generalist' doctors treat most clients similarly and don't necessarily look at individual differences. Ie. All people over 50 are the same, all kids are the same, etc….
I think the message then should be to always get a second opinion. Even if the first one is favourable it might sometimes be prudent to get a second opinion in case something was considered or caught.

Definitely get the results from your doctor. The heart is not a muscle to mess with. WIsh you the best.

Good point, Rex. How many times is the first response from a doctor -- stop training. You have to respect your medical condition, but search for a doctor who understands that lifting is your way of life - not a hobby.

Fab, how did you make out?
