View Full Version : stiff legged deads = romanian deads?
a few questions about stiff legged deads:
1. is it the same excercise as Romanian Deads?
2. is it an easier, same or harder excercise than a conventional dead?
3. do these target the back or legs predominately?
i have been doing Romanian deads as part of my back days, as i feel it burn in the lower back more than anything, but read routines that have stiff legged deads on leg days. should you be able to lift as much as a conventional dead, or is it a harder lift? thanks for the help in clearing these questions up.
yo, stiff leg deads are almost the same as the romanian d-lift except that you straighten your legs out, instead of keeping them bent like with the romanian.
they are definately harder than a conventional d-lift.i usually work my deadlift on back day and train up to 315-365, depending on how i feel that day. but i do stiff legs on leg day and typically dont exceed 275.
i also stack a couple of plates to satnd on while i perform staightlegs, because my gym doesnt have boxes. i find this allows for a better stretch in the muscles.
Stiff legs are designed to target hams and that is why you see them listed in leg workouts, but they will also work your lower back, especially if you lift off of plates. thus i would recommend starting light and perfecting form so as to prevent lower back injuries.
Yea like that SAMSON said they are pretty much the same just the bending of the knees
I feel they are not as hard as the deadlift
Yea your back does get a little out of the stiff leg dead but if you concentrate on yuor hams then you take away from the back alot more...you dont need to go very heavy either just work the shit out of em

they are the same...they just have 2 different names...and i put deadlifts on my back day...so RDL should be on your leg day because they primarily work your hamstrings...good question
Ive always done my sldl with a slight bend in my les because i feel its dangerous to stand with your legs locked while holding hundreds of pounds. Am i just doing romanian deadlifts? I never thought about it until this thread...
