Im looking to get a rice cooker within the next week. Rice is convenient and I dont have a problem getting it down like some other foods. Anyone have one or can recommend a quality cooker? Price isnt really an issue theyre not crazy expensive but there are so many of them its hard to tell which ones are legit. Thanks

Also got an Oster here... As the bull said, it's definitely worth the investment. I use it on a daily basis. I just set the timer and before ya know it, it's done. Easy to clean as well.

I'm cool with the whatever is cheap. $30 for a rice cooker seems high to me. Wal-Mart or Target has cheap ones. I think mine cost $14. Save your money and buy some Animal Pak. :)

I got a Black and Decker rice cooker for Christmas (thanks ma). The price tag was left on it; read around $20 from WalMart. It works well enough, cooks the rice and turns to heat mode when it's done.

It also has a vent hole in the lid that likes to spew hot ricewater if you're cooking a lot at a time. I use it but would recommend somethin' else unless that's a normal "feature" in rice cookers.

Are there ricecookers that let you keep rice warm and edible for more than just a few hours?

I have an Oster and it works great. 10 minutes and your rice is done. I think I paid $20 for mine.

I have an Aroma rice cooker I bought at Target for $25 on sale. Its great. It has a 8 cup capacity so i can cook for a few days worth of rice at time. And steam veggies too.

Here's a link to it---

Hey people, I tried to cook brown rice today instead of white rice in the rice cooker and i did exactly as the bag told me 1 cup rice and 2 cups water plus a little salt and a little canola oil, however, when the rice was done cooking i proceeded to eat my necessary meal and the rice was still hard.... I had to force it down tho cause it was the only source of carbs i had at hand... But if i decide to switch things up and start cooking brown rice how do i cook it.....?

Yeah, just cook it longer. My rice cooker has a white and brown rice option...the brown just cooks it a bit longer.

You dont need the rice cooker..easier over the stovetop really.
Go to the recipe thread..I will post the answer to this there...you always have the option of buying the 10-minute instant brown rice. Its already in bags and you add to cold water and let boil for 10 min. Drain and eat..simple as that...go to the recipe section..I will post there.

Thanks,
Toni

I had the same problem as you did with my rice cooker. I tried adding alittle more water and letting it cook longer and the rice came out fine.

I buy Uncle Bens Brown rice. Cook time is only 30 minutes. Just follow the directions on the bag. I don't add oil or butter to mine.
I cook up a bunch for the week every Sunday. Here is a tip that I find helpful. I keep a 1/4 cup measuring cup in the bowl with my rice. I have different serving sizes depending on what meal I am having and this makes it easy, just scoop it out for the amount you want 1/2 cup, 3/4 cup throw it back in the bowl and back in the fridge. Good to go for next time.

how are you guys storing your rice after you cook it?
my parents were tossing it in tupperware for the longest time, and it would get stale after like 2 days. screew that.
i went to japan for 2 weeks w/ the reserves, and those guys eat rice all the time, bout 4 cups a day... and they dont even train.
anywho, best way to do it, i learned from em is to take a piece of seran wrap and lay it down, then pour about a cup of cooked rice, whn its still hot on it, then fold the sides in, and then the ends.... it selas nice, and you can keep it for up toa weke i think.

Rice will not last long in tupperware in the fridge. You have to either leave it out, or eat it within a couple days.

I have 2 brown rice recipes in the recipe section here...its so easy to make..you dont need the cooker really.

With a rice cooker you can have brown rice ready in 10 minutes. Very convenient and they are not very expensive.

My mom always had a rice cooker, grandpa was from hawaii and they had white rice with EVERY meal...grandma did not even measure the water, she had so much pratice that she would use her finger....rice cookers are more that worth the money...i think that my ex stole mine...time to buy another one...

This may sound like a dumb question, but how do rice cookers cook rice any faster? Do they work like pressure cookers, and actually make the water boil "hotter"? I thought rice cookers just kept the temp constant so the rice cooked more evenly, but I cook mine in the oven so I don't worry about that. If rice cookers are actually faster, especially 10 minutes fast, I'm DEFINITELY gettin' one.

My rice cooker isn't that much faster than boiling it. But it's a set and forget thing, it makes life easier. I own a Zojirushi unit myself.

I have a riced cooker as well, I think I paid 25 bucks and worth it.

Another good investment is a Food Saver. I bought the smaller one for 30 bucks and it's awesome. It's a vacuumm sealer. Put your rice in a bag, it sucks out all the air and store it in the freezer. When you're ready just throw it in the microwave or boil the bag.
