Shirted benching really takes a lot of energy. I love that foggy-eyed feeling where I can lay down anywhere and fall asleep. Then I know I really worked my body. Going to shoot for 315x10 next weekend. Also lookng forward to our wedding consultation with the reception spot we chose. It'll be a wonderful occasion to have all our powerlifting friends and family there with us.
Yo! that is some impressive numbers! Really motivating. Man, I thought I was strong... Keep working hard! Peace

Impressive numbers! Your lucky they caught you when the sleeve blew, could of been a disaster. How do you like the F6?

I compete in APF, IPA and SPF. You're right it's good they caught it, but then again, our team ALWAYS spots well and we've never had an injury from poor saves. They take every weight seriously whether it's 1010 for Gene or 95 for one of our newest gals.

How do you like the F6?
I've been in this one particular F6 for over a year now and just starting to break it in just right. Gonna need 420-430 to touch solid. I like the F6's, so long as I open up the back and tighten the sleeves myself. I do most of the alterations for our team and various people who ask me to do some work. Sure helps to have a sewing machine!

For some reason, the weight felt heavy and I was constantly yawning. I should have known my CNS was not fully recovered when shaking under raw weight and the shoulder felt tweaked. Going to have to do some overheads with speed training this week and save some energy for the workout on Saturday down at Jimmy's. I figure 425 should touch and will probably be a goal opener for the meet in February.

I Am Sorry And Don't Want To Sound Like An Idiot, But What Is Shirted Benching And What Is An F6?
Kathy Fields
01-29-07, 1:10 pm
Shirted benching is performing the benchpress in a special shirt that aids in benching heavier weight than one would be able to do raw. It's more technique and with it one has to develop an added skill to be able to use the shirt on top of being able to perform the lift. The F6 is a type of bench shirt designed by Titan, an equipment manufacturer.

I would love to train with you someday! Your very cool and strong! My max bench is only 175...for one! You get mad respect from me!
Mad respect from me too.
Your lifts are SICK! I'd love to watch you train. And see the looks on the guys' faces at my gym!

In all seriousness...I think if the 3 of us walked into any gym together...we would rock everyone's world!
Are any of you lovely ladies coming to the ASC?
MariAnne. you need to convince Andrew that I'm really not a threat...I'm cute and innocent.
Just gotta get me a ticket. I'm staying with a friend from another board.
I'll be sure to show Andrew the special pix of you, bud.
And Toni - that would be funny as hell.
Maybe walk into a commercial gym for a drop in and watch them try to sell us on the latest Bosu-ball workout.

good timing here guys and gals. tonight i had to "hold my own" with a new girl at the gym. she just moved down from canada a few weeks back and tonite she "showed up". the rest of the world seems to hit chest on monday, and i have always done back. she asked to woek in, as there was nothing available chest wise in the entire gym. she said she would strip and add her own weight as needed. "no prob" i said, as i thought "she's gonna be busy".
WRONG...she only dropped the pin on warm up lat pulldowns 20-30lbs each set.stipped off only the 25 plate on b/b rows. 20lb down on seated rows, 45 plate off on t bar rows and ended up with the 50lb d/b on single rows. i FINALLY got some glory and pride back on the deads, but then she buried me on hypers. She earned crazy respect from the whole gym and especially us old timers. 3 of our "fitness" queens actually packed up and left (hehe). And to beat all, she bought me a shake. rock on , TJ, rock on.

Thank you Toni69, Built and Big Jawn! It's been a very long time since I've been in a gym where I get "looks" when I walk in and work out. Training at Nazbar is completely different in that everyone gets respect no matter how heavy or light the weights are that they lift. I've never trained to sculpt my body and have focused on powerlifting for so long, sometimes I forget that my body has transformed as a result of this. It surprises me when people come up and ask if I'm a bodybuilder. I do my best to explain to them the difference between powerlifters and bodybuilders. If anyone gets ultimate respect from me, it would be the gals like Toni69 and Built who not only push the heavy weight to add the mass but also have the added discipline with dieting down and cardio to cut for competition. It's one thing to "shock and awe" when training in the gym, but most people would never understand what you ladies go through day in and day out in the lifestyle outside of the gym to build and sculpt your bodies...it would blow their minds.
We are also going to be at the Arnold and will most likely be hanging around for much of the powerlifting competitions and the Animal Cage for Powerfreak's squat exhibition. It would be cool to meet you all there and have a great time!

I know this ain't training, but what the hell...it's still a part of the lifestyle. Just finished tightening up my baby's briefs and taking out the seams in a poly squat suit for a teammate. I HATE HATE HATE taking out the fuckin seams....it leaves threads all over the damn place and takes so freakin' long!!! Then tomorrow night after the workout, I have to tighten up the sleeves in two other shirts for some teammates. So you see...we live the life of powerlifters, not hobbyists. I'm not a professional seamstress or anything, just know a thing or two about sewing machines. The thing I love about the most is making adjustments on equipment (because we all know, when it comes from the manufacturer, it's never "perfect"), and actually seeing it work. Even off-the-shelf equipment is fun, that's when the skill really comes in handy. We have "hand me downs" in the gym amongst teammates that sorta fit a person and I get to tailor it to them as they need it. Sometimes I bring the sewing machine into the gym for those "on the spot" adjustments that may come into play. This is when I know I am dedicating as much of myself as I can to the sport and my teammates. You can't find this kind of gratification anywhere else. Now...all I need to do is save up enough money to buy an industrial sewing machine so that I can go through canvas! LOL!!!! I'm so sorry Powerfreak...I wish my machine could handle the material! Someday....some fucking day, I'll be able to adjust those monster squat suits!!!!

I've never used boards in a shirt but decided to this week since I needed to feel heavier weight in my hands, build up the stamina to go many sets, and save the shoulder for openers next weekend. I could have gone on to do 485, but I don't need to blow my wad just yet. Gotta save that for meet day. Plus, our good friend was opening his gym to the public for the first time and I wanted to put on a good show. Let's face it, I enjoy being one of the few females who regularly handle over 400 in the bench. Hehehe. It was a great atmosphere, everyone was hitting pr's and the crowd loved the intensity! Even my own sweetheart hit a fucking pr with 850 to the 2 board!!!
I really appreciate Jimmy having us down there to do our bench session, I'd have to say it was one of the best workouts I've had in a long time. His gym is awesome and quite the "ANIMAL" feel in the weight area, very hardcore!
The work is not done, gotta do assistance work today and help out with a few of the crewmembers who decided to save their work for Sunday. Then it's back home to pig out and enjoy the Superbowl!
Absolutely sick benching Kathy! Do you have a meet coming up?

Kathy is one sick fucking lifting chick. Always focused and intense.
Three other girls on the team,Vera,Michelle and Robin are right there along with her.
Oh, and Kathy is one hell of a seamstress...lol Really, she does a ton of work on the team's Bench shirts to try and get every extra pound out of them.
Don't worry Kat,we shouldn't need that new machine, I am supposed to be getting another squat suit today, what's this , number nine? Hopefully this one will fit. On the bright side everyone else got the Brand new "hand me downs"
Kathy Fields
02-09-07, 4:44 pm
Funny how the brand new hand me downs fit everyone else perfectly. Next time you'll have to order it to fit a skinny midget and they just might get it right for you. LOL!!!
Get ready to rock some fuckin weight tomorrow!
How's the training coming? Looking forward to your results!
Kathy Fields
02-13-07, 10:23 pm
Training is doing well, did openers last Sunday. Pulled 405 to the 1 board as close as I could before putting it back up. It didn't touch and I was down there for what seemed like forever, but being able to do that and still have the energy to put it back up relatively well should put me in a good spot to open with 425. I had a rage fit right before the last set twisting my ankle on some goddamned pieces of wood while trying to unload the bar...too much shit in the way of course. But I don't make the call on where the equipment should be in that place, so I just chalk it up to throwing a temper tantrum to shake my nerves. Good thing about our gym, we can throw plates around and smash things when we're pissed off and everyone just shrugs it off and continues on with business. I am fortunate to have a fiance and team that is understanding and so helpful, they really do help me get through sticky times.
Thanks for asking Deeder, I will definitely post results after the meet.
Damn that's a nice opener! Good luck!

02-23-07, 12:46 pm
I'm here, just recovering from the meet. Lesson learned...don't change plans at the last minute in a meet!
My mistake was not doing all my warmups as planned and opening too low. I wasted my first attempt with a 410...which I knew would have never touched but got talked into lowering it anyway. Should've stuck with the plan and open with 425. So I wasted a lot of energy trying to make the damn weight touch and tweaked my right patella tendon. Took 425 for 2nd and 3rd attempts but was shy of lockout by half an inch on my right side both times. Had trouble getting leg drive from my right leg because of my freakin knee problems. UGH! Also think I peaked early two weeks before and blew my wad down at the gym opening. So, now I am preparing for the APF meet in April up at Lake George. Gotta nail this now that I finally got my shirt working right.
Kathy Fields
02-24-07, 12:34 pm
Decided to pull last night for shits and giggles...knee is still sore from the meet. Oh well, at least I have another one. LOL!!! I haven't pulled over 300 from the floor since a couple of meets last year in April and really haven't trained the deadlift except with some rack pulls once in awhile. My main focus has been on the bench but I know I cannot neglect my back. Looking back at the footage at the meet last weekend, I don't look stable and my back is the culprit.
Sooooo.....I kept it short and sweet just to see where I stand and how I feel with pulling.

405x1 (could have gone for another, but wanted to cap the night with a good feeling)
The 405 my baby said was picture perfect. Thanks to Powerfreak and Jay, it felt easier than the 365 and I felt I could do more. This is good, this means I haven't lost the strength to pull since April and I could probably add on to that foundation. Perhaps a 3 lift meet in June? Who knows...gotta work on my weak points. I need a deadlift suit if I want to get up into the 500's. I wore some old briefs I had made out of a stretched out champion suit from the 90's and Bobby's metal single ply deadlift suit that is 2 sizes too big for me (guess it helped for good luck with all the ball sweat that's accumulated in it). The workout might as well have been raw and felt like it. Time to start hitting up the sponsor.

Did my singles to the 2 board because of narrow grip and to save the shoulders. We're training for a meet in April so there's no reason for me to go full range just yet and risk making the shoulders worse. Also had to cut up the timing so we could fit the exciting part of the workout in 1 hour. This was one of the most exciting and fun workouts we've ever had being that it was in the Animal Cage and had so many great people helping us out. We hope to do it again next year and put up bigger numbers for the crowd. Hopefully by then I'll be hitting 500+.

Still feeling it from Sunday and didn't have much to eat throughout the day. Started shaking from low fuel 30 minutes into the workout, but worked through it and the shakes surprisingly went away. We went grocery shopping on empty stomachs...which is not always a bad thing. Good thing it's not crowded late at night, I get violently cranky when I'm starving. Grabbed some whoppers from Burger King and pigged out before hitting the sack.

Got to see Kathy and Bobby Fields in The Cage doing what they do best, "throwing around some heavy ass weight"
They made their lifts look like warm ups...strong is under rated for these two!
And...we are not talking about the "old time" power lifters with a bit of a belly.
No!!!!!!!!! These two have tight, rock-hard muscles with very good muscle separation and good vascualrity...can you say "I got abs"

Thanks Toni69! So many women don't realize what they can do if they put their minds to it. You are definitely one who shows the wonderful possibilities and the determination to achieve them.
I have to thank my father for teaching me the sewing basics on my grandmother's old Singer. From there, just about every sewing machine old or new has the same basic setup. I have my fabric in and already cutting out the pattern for my shirt. I'm waiting on another sewing machine to come in. Found a cast iron industrial sewing machine that came off the factory line with a higher shank for doing leather and heavy canvas. This one should be handy for making alterations on stuff like leviathans and really thick suits.
Took it easy on Sunday as I realized no matter how hard I try to make my old shirts work, they just don't fit right and I'll hurt myself if I push it. Also trying to get over a nasty cold. That gives me more time to work on my shirt. I may have to do Powerpalooza raw just to get some numbers in.

What are you altering on the shirts? Can any tailor do it? How would I know it needs some alterations, what do I look or feel for? I just sent my #'s in and Inzer sent me the shirt. I assumed it wouldn't need altered. I am new to these type of shirts and am not sure if it fits right.

Kathy is the queen of shirt alterations.
When you order a shirt the measurements usually fit a wide range of lifters. unless you are a sponsored lifter the changes are usually left to you to figure out, because they can vary in so many different ways.
You may want to pm Kathy and work something out with her.
She is on my powerlifting team and I vouche for her 100%.

It totaly awsome that she has the knowledge and skill to make her own shirt. She is the one that knows what she needs, sometimes is it easier to do something your self than try to explain it to other....I cant wait to hear how well it works for her...

Sorry I haven't been online much, been suffering from a bad cold that led to a condition called "rhabdomyolysis". Apparently, the doc at the ER is familiar with the condition and has usually seen it affect bobybuilders and extreme weightlifters. It had me down the whole week and just now starting to feel better.
Grissinger, when it comes to altering shirts, I do what the lifter asks after they have tried it on and worked out in it to determine what they need. Usually it's tightening of the sleeves to give better lockout power. I have shortened sleeves and hemmed them in the past for shirts that have too long of a sleeve length. Also, I have been asked to open the back and add velcro. I have shortened chest plates before, but I try to avoid doing that since it compromises the material since it involves cutting down the center and overlapping the material with heavier stitch. Seen too many blowouts because of that so I discourage that request.

I found a little time to get video of my baby's benching from Saturday. I will work to get more vids from the other team members during the week.
Here's Bobby's 905lbs to a 2-board, I added some music from the movie "300" since we like it so much.

Gettin ready to head down to Perryville tomorrow for charity event hosted by Jimmy Vest. Should be a good time and my kids will have a ball runnin around in the festival. By the way, if y'all didn't know it, I have two kids...and no, they didn't come off Ebay. LOL!!! Trust me, Ebay wouldn't allow me to put them up for auction either. They're good kids, just can't wait till they can start taking care of me.
Bobby and I got some shirts in from Titan and anxious to try to them out. My own denim shirt is on hold until the schedule allows. I'm a systems and network administrator at my job and been real busy planning a major upgrade the last few weeks.
I wish I could train instead of have a job....that would be so sweeeeeet!!!!

Hey kathy, Solid lifting going on here!
Just curious on your thoughts on cutting the back of a denim shirt and adding velcro, do you just cut straight down the back and overlock the edges? PM me if you can :) Thanks!
