My current shake is far from perfect. I'm constantly tweaking it:

2 scoops whey
2 tablespoons PB
1 banana
20 oz milk
3/4 cup steel cut oats

Mr.Totality
01-16-07, 3:00 pm
2 scoops protein powder
2 tablespoons peanut butter
3/4 cup of dry quick oats
16 oz milk

I have started using this myself. The only differences are 2.5 cups(scoops) of whey and 1 cup oats. Its not bad. The PB makes it real tasty

God Damn!! I have to try this one bro..

My shake is generally pretty simple;

1-2 scoops of protein powder
1 Banana
6 egg whites

Brute Force
01-16-07, 6:08 pm
1 cup of yogurt
1/2 cup of ground oats (in a coffee grinder)
1 serving of strawberry or vanilla real gains (or protein)
1 cup frozen mixed berries
enough milk to mix into a pudding consistency

I also like chocolate protein and natural peanut butter with enough milk to make some pudding (good for low carb meals)

Thumperz
01-17-07, 3:23 am
2 scoops of protein
6 egg whites
1/2 c. oats
2 tbs. real peanutbutter.
milk till my magic blender is full.

It's always fun to eat that many calories in like 10 sec.

here's a good bulking shake, filled with quality protein, calories, and ESPECIALLY health benefits:

2 large egg whites,
1/2 cup of nonfat cottage cheese,
2 scoops of chocolate protein powder,
2 tablespoons of unsalted natural PB or almond butter,
1 cup dry instant oats,
1 tbsp honey,
1.5 scoops of emerald balance (or greens+ or some other type of greens superfood powder).

80 grams of protein,
15 grams of healthy fats,
87 grams of carbs

that's 800 quality calories with a ton of health benefits!!

for you low carbers, just take out the oats and you're left with 27 grams of carbs, and take out the honey and you're left with 10 grams of carbs.

as a post workout meal replacement (not the instant PWO shake taken immediately following a workout), take out the nut butters and you've pretty much taken out the majority of the fat.

Every now and then I reward myself with this concoction:

-2 scoops NytroWhey Extreme Cookies'n'Creme Protein (Prosource)
-Couple scoops of Icecream (very calorie dense)
-Milk
-Ice
-Banana

Throw it in a blender and you have a super calorie dense shake that tastes...um...amazing. (ATTN: Not for the cutting individual, good for hardgainers.)

For me:
3 and 1/2 scoops of Real Gains Chocolate
16 ounces of Fat Free Skim Milk
2 tsp. Micronized Creatine
1 tbsp. Natural Peanut Butter
6 Ice Cubes
3 tsp. Greens+
And Blend. It's great it tastes like the old chocolate milkshakes from fast food joints, but it's great for you and your body.

2 cups of oats....first i grind them up real fine in a blender it will take about 1-2 min.... (once your done with the oats put it in a bowl)
then 3 scoops of whey put it in the bowl with the oats mix it
then 2 cups of skim milk back in the blender
turn on the blender with the milk in it already, now procede to put the oats and whey in the blender and viola.... its simple and its really easy to get it down because of the skim milk.
so now lets do the number game.
2 cupz of skim milks is 180 calories
3 scoops of whey (depnds on brand ) usually range in 120 or 130...lets use 120 for this one. 120*3=360
2 cups of raw oast is 600 cals....1/2 cup is 150cals
now this all sums up to about 78grms of protien....108grams of carbs
600+180+360=1140 cals
drink them about 3times a day and alond with 3 sold meals you will put on some serious mass.

Whoaa....animal pak blended in? I like the idea(makes life much easier) but doesn't it defeat the purpose of "timed-release" tablets? Oh, and I think I tried that once and was emptying my shake from the other end in about 10 minutes. Haha.

3 scoops of either blueberry creme or chocolate bananna crunch muscle milk
3/4 cup frozen mixed berries
1/2 cup oats
1 tablespoon peanut butter
1 tablespoon flax oil
1/2 bananna
1 cup of milk or water

adding frozen berries gives it a really thick, cold and frothy consistency. No chugging this one!

Gotta Add my one in...Nothing creative about it, but I got the stats for ya too, so for those in much needed cals and quality carbs/protein look no further.

400 Ml semi skimmed milk
50g Oats (soak them in the milk for 5 minutes)
2 Scoops Real Gains

Gives me

49 Grams of protein
106 Carbs
735 Calories

With the additional 2 tablespoons of Peanut butter the stats all bump up, and you can add like 160 + calories...

I have a question regarding the use of oats in shakes. Is it better to grind them up before you put them in the shake or should you just dump them in?
Sorry if this question has been asked before.

Sorry if this question has been asked before.

These types of questions are always going to be repeated. Its because we get new members and they all have the same questions. Its ok.

You dont have to grind them. Apparantly, I learned from someone here that quick oats are faster digesting than normal cooked oats, which are slower digesting. So, the quick (1-minute by Quaker) are best pre and post workout.

Just add your oats raw to your shake. I like the texture and consistency. It will settle at the bottom. Just shake it up or drink the bits at the bottom, whatever floats your boat.

Stay away from the instant packets. Instant oatmeal is more processed so that it cooks faster. This also means that it has a higher GI and you digest it faster; it has more sugar.

Remember, Insoluble fiber is the rough, stringy part of a plant that provides bulk as an aid to a healthy gastrointestinal tract. Grains such as wheat bran, whole wheat flour, rye, millet, oats, barley, nuts and seeds are in this category. Soluble fiber helps regulate blood sugar, fat and cholesterol levels.

Ok brothers, what do you put in your preworkout shake? I take in 20 grams of whey isolate and 1/2 oats. What do you think about adding a sugary yogurt, like with about 25 grams of simple sugar? I sometimes add honey or a banana, but would the sugars in yogurt be a wise carb choice preworkout? My girl left a cup of the stuff over here and I'm thinking of just throwing it in with the whey. Should this be a staple in my preworkout diet?

I search for a preworkout shake thread so sorry if there is anything like this already posted.

I don't see anything wrong with it, especially if you're on a bulk. Yogurt helps with digestion, is a source of calcium and complete protein. Unless you're lactose intolerant....

Eating is crucial to every bodybuilder/powerlifter's/everyone elses lifestyle. I read the articles, hear the stories, seen some of my friends make em, but I wanted to know what the cream of the crop in the weight lifting world has to offer when it comes to the best protein shake.

Mine consists of about 48g of a whey blend(to get protein released throughout my workout), and a tbsp of healthy fats.

Then I sip a mixture of Gatorade powder and glutamine throughout my workout for carbs, electrolytes and aminos.

Oh yea, and the yogurt would be good to use. Gets in some carbs, protein and calcium fast. Definitely a good choice.

I use:

3 scoops of chocolate real gains
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1 cup uncooked oats
and then i fill the rest of the blender to the top with milk

sometimes it gets hard to drink because that cup of uncooked oats makes it thick if you dont use enough milk but the taste ain't bad and it's SO MUCH easier thank choking down a bowl of cooked oatmeal.... unless you like oatmeal...

In a shake? God damn.......

Mine is usually:

1 1/2 cups of whole milk
1/2 cup of dry oats
1-2 tbsp of sugar free choc syrup
2 tbsp of Nat PB
25g of either IsoWhey, Whey Comp or Casein (depends on time of day)
3-4 ice cubes.
Tastes like a Reeses.

If its a pre w/o meal I'll do 25g of Iso and 25g of Casein. I've recently started adding whole eggs to the shake. I never even considered it till I started reading the breakfast threads and mass shake threads. Not bad, just sounds wierd. For my breakfast daily I used to cook 4 eggs and do a shaker of one scoop of whey and a 1/2 cup of oats cooked with milk and splenda topped. Now I'll just blend it all

it makes them slightly creamier in consistency, and adds more volume because of the albumin. that's raw, if you will.

-1/4oz crushed unsalted natural almonds
-1.5scoops of cookies and cream nocarb whey
-1 tbsp of natty crunchy pb
-1 tbsp of trader joe's natural extra virgin olive oil
-1/2 cup of liquid egg whites
-1/8 cup of whole wheat pancake mix
-1/8 cup of natural oat bran
-splash of heavy whipping cream
-1 tbsp of L-glut
-1 tbsp of flax-oil
-1 serving of natural fiber blend
-Shot of wheat grass
-pinch of cinnamon
-half a banana
-Enough ice to get that blender filled

This shake comes out thick as fuck and tastes like a chocolate banana ice cream waffle cookie. I get depressed when its over.

Covers all the fats bases (3, 6, 9), clean cals are through the roof, tons of fiber, 60+grams of protein, among many health benefits. I take this at the end of the workout week for a cheat.

If this shake were music, it would be the Beatles post-drugs. Enjoy

I'm quite pleased with my present gainer, it tastes great, is extremely cheap and has awesome stats.

10 oz of oats
2 large bananas
2 scoops of Whey
1 small scoop of gainer
1 "serving" creatine
1 tsp cocoa (non sugar)
1 tsp honey
1 liter milk (34 oz)

I usually drink this to breakfast on workout day as a pre workout shake with 3 eggs and a couple of egg whites (cooked) beside. Cocoa and honey is there for antioxidants and a bit of fructose.

That sounds good.

I know for a while when I was bulking hard and wanted to get something fast acting into my system I would drink the following about an hour before breakfast. I mixed it up at night and let it get cold.

Materials needed:

Universal Mix Boy shaker cup
Van. Ultra Iso Whey
Cherry Berry Blast Torrent

Mix as follows:
1 serving Torrent
1 scoop Iso Whey
22. oz of water (adjust this to your taste)
Shake like hell and let it sit in the firdge over night.
Right after the alarm clock goes off the next morning go slam this down. Shower, get ready for work, then make your eggs and oats for breakfast.

There's a place by my gym called "Better" that sells a protein shake called "the Nutty Proffessor." I never really buy premade protein shakes because of their ridiculous price so I just make this bad boy myself...

1. Just dump your favorite protein powder in a blender. (I use a little over 50g)
2. Drop in a banana (fresh/frozen)
3. Add 2 - 4 tbsp of peanut butter
4. Add 2 or more packets of sugar-free sweetener.

If you're a hungry bastard like me throw in some oatmeal or whatever else floats your stick.

Aye, if you guys got a sweet tooth... I have a solution.

Shake up 1 tbsp. of honey in your shake. It basically goes with any other flavors, but I like to drop it into my shake as follows.

-1 1/2 cups water.
-Mix in 1 tbsp. honey
-Add protein powder
-Shake up a little
-Open it up and drop in a hefty amount of cinnamon.

Also, at times i'll take a half gallon of milk, drink it down 1/3 or so, and put a few servings of powerdered milk into it. Just makes the milk more creamy.... no more fat, and 8g of protein per serving more.

3 pasturized eggs
3 scoops choc protein powder (75g)
1 cup quick oats
4 tbsp milled flax seed
1 cup peanut butter
1 banana
12-16 oz milk (or whatever fits)

This will help you put on some serious mass. But don't use it for your postworkout shake. The fats and fiber will slow down the speed the protein gets to your muscles. Use it in when you want to relax a bit. Because you won't be able to move after you finish this half gallon shake.

BTW, this is not my PWO shake. I don't do eggs or flax after I workout. The fats and fiber slows down the absorption of protein. But it's the best one I've had so far for mass building. This is my secret weapon during a bulk.

For the guys that use oats in their protein shakes....do you cook them first or just throw the dry oats in the blender? I tried just throwing in some old fashioned oats and they dont get grinded up very well. Do steel cut oats work better for this?

I use raw Quaker Quick Oats. They grind up easy, and go down good.

I use quaker's oats the ones which are in blue can. They don't grind up but I just keep shaking and drinking....

I made a shake last night with Greek yogurt:

2 scoops of whey
1 banana
10 ounces of 2% milk
1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter
2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt

Not too bad!

Quoted from Derek Poundstone in RX:
"Generally while at work I eat three meals, I’m sure to get my protein intake by making chicken puree shakes. The chicken puree starts out as frozen chicken breasts. I boil 2 lbs of the chicken breast in water before work (usually the night before) for about 30 minutes. I then cool the chicken and place the four or five breasts (2lbs) into a high-powered blender filled to the 35 - 40 oz line with water. I blend the chicken on high until it becomes a medium consistency fluid that is drinkable (about a minute). Once done, the 2 lbs of chicken and water make about 40 oz of drinkable puree. I drink 20 oz for two meals at work."

MMMMMM. Almost as tastey as House's tilapia shake before the O last year!

This actually sounds pretty good! If you warmed it up it would tast kinda like chicken soup. You could add some cooked veggies and garlic before you blend it up. Soup Shake to go!!

Oh, I sometimes add a teaspoon of honey to my shakes (this is especially good when you add natural peanut butter; something about honey and peanut butter goes together really well). But honey has a lot of health benefits not mention the simple sugars for post workout.

Also if you eat honey that's gathered locally (in your region) it helps tremendously with alergies. It helps make you immune to pollens, etc in the air.

In my opinion, yes honey is much better because there are far more health benefits from honey. I've even tried honey in my coffee as a natural sweetener.

My perfect mass shake for when I was trying to pack on size in my twenties was...

3.5 scoops Real Gains
1 Banana
2 TBSP Natural Peanut Butter
1/2 cup Oats
10 oz 1% Milk

That was like 1000 calories in a single glass. Unbeatable.

Now I just have Iso Whey w/ milk in the AM and Casein Pro w/ water before bed.

But my postworkout shake is still awesome. Lots of carbs and protein.

1 scoop Iso Whey
1 scoop Casein Pro
1 ripe Banana
1 scoop SP Carb Max
10 oz Gatorade

That is like 40-45g protein and 50-60g carbs. Plus it tastes amazing.

Peace, G

24 oz Skim Milk
4 Scoops Vanilla Ice Cream Real Gains
1 Small Box Banana Cream Instant Pudding (Make sure it's INSTANT)
2 Graham Crackers

If you're trying to bulk more consciously, you can use sugar free pudding. The skim keeps it pretty clean.

Enjoy!

Here's one I use. A mix of all the shit I can find, and it tastes pretty good.

A cup of green tea (I normally let it steep for 10 mins)
A cup of unsweetened almond milk
2 large scoops of vanilla/strawberry weight gainer
1 tablespoon of almond butter
1/2 cup of instant oatmeal
A handful of frozen mixed berries
A handful of spinach.

Loads of micronutrients, once you get over the chunks of spinach. Taste's awesome too, and great of us lactose intolerant lot.

Nothing crazy, and I'm sure plenty of people do something similar, but I start most mornings off with...

1/2 cup oatmeal

Using frozen fruit gives it a really thick, milk shake sort of texture, and I'll change up the type of fruit and whey from time to time for different flavor combos
